I'm looking for a new more modern dressing table as mine is over 30 yrs old and quite large and dark.
I'm going round in circles.
Anyone bought one recently and where from

It’s worth looking in antique and second hand shops as you can pick up very well made older dressing tables for not a lot of money.

What?!! I'm another one who had no idea that people had dressing tables.

What do you actually do with it? And if it really is a dedicated space where you sit down and put your make up on, do you do that every day? How does it not end up covered in random crap?

Yes it is a dedicated space where I sit down and put my make-up on every day sometimes twice a day. I also sit by it at the end of the day to take my make up off and put cream on.

Mine is not big but it holds my make-up, tablets, Hair dryer, hair products, creams, cotton wool, Make- up remover and perfumes. Because it isn't huge I do not find it gets covered in random rap. I also have a small bin (3 litre) by it to dispose of stuff

Suzi888 · 06/11/2022 21:03

I have mirrored furniture and never again. Literally needs dusting every hour. 💀
I blame the neighbour’s wood burner! Haven’t had it that long, about two years. Cost a bloody fortune, so can’t get shot yet. Had built in mirrored wardrobes too.

MrsThimbles · 06/11/2022 21:04

tickticksnooze · 06/11/2022 19:21

Is this literally just a dedicated table for putting on makeup?

Not for me as I don’t wear make up everyday. It just holds my personal bits and pieces, so contact lenses and anything related to my eyes on one drawer, another drawer with my medicines and the last drawer holds my hair stuff.

The one in my dressing area doesn’t have any make up on it at all and the drawers contain things of sentimental value that I like to know are there every time I look at, or pass, the dressing table.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 06/11/2022 21:05

Kudos to the OP for a quick fire response 😂

this is interesting as we are having our room painted at the moment which has resulted in moving some of the furniture around.

I don’t want a dressing table as I currently use a chest of drawers like many PP. But I do want some shelves above it and some nicer make up storage things so if anyone has any photos of that stuff please share!

funnily enough my sister has a 90s style dressing table at my parents house and my tween DD is coveting it for her bedroom at the moment Grin

Wagsandclaws · 06/11/2022 21:06

Mines got loads of my earrings and perfume on display.

And crystals and a candle ... lots of crap and it needs
Dusting - kind of like the rest of my house really.

I love a dressing table, I never sit at it though it's more for storage despite the stool.I got it on fb marketplace and it was a steal Smile

I have one, also not tidy enough for a photo! It’s a bit like this but with a triple mirror. I have had it a long time, I’m not one to throw out good stuff because it looks dated!

What do you mean what do you do with it?! Isn’t it obvious 😂 I use it everyday, I have my morning shower then I sit here and do my hair and make up before work. When I go out in the evening I do the same, it is part of a ritual that I enjoy.

purfectpuss · 06/11/2022 21:07

Why are people scoffing at having a dressing table? I love mine- it gives you somewhere to sit to do hair and makeup- you can keep all your toiletries on it, it has a mirror, which is ideal as it's placed in front of the window, it drawers for storing stuff and it doubles as a writing desk. If you have a dressing table you'll be forever spoilt because whenever I stay at a hotel or asomeone else house and you are expected to get ready without one you realise how good they are- it's no fun standing at the bathroom mirror or trying to st at a chest of drawers where it's the wrong height and your there's nowhere to put your knees under or sitting on the bed doing makeup in a hand-held mirror. Mine is a bit like this www.thefurnituremarket.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/0da5f36988333f78f594c0ac4d9002a6/h/w/hw53-hw10-hw11-french-hardwood-mahogany-dressing-table-set-1.jpg

Oilyoilyoilgob · 06/11/2022 21:09

@Hereforthelaugh that Pinterest picture is drool worthy-I wish I was that tidy!

I have two dressing tables 😄 I painted a very old one pompadour pink, and I still have my teenage-hood pine one (it honestly works in the bedroom it’s in 🙈)

I have my make up (tons) hair products, perfumes etc buried within them and purchased an antique looking hairbrush and hand mirror to sit on the side of the pink one. Very “90 year old chic” and proud 😉😎

KimberleyClark · 06/11/2022 21:09

@purfectpuss snap, apart from the stool!k

Whatabouterry · 06/11/2022 21:10

I have one from the futon company www.futoncompany.co.uk/shop-by-product/furniture/tables/madrid-dressing-table.html
and a mirror from them to go on it.
www.futoncompany.co.uk/shop-by-product/furniture/mirrors/oak-dressing-mirror-with-drawers.html
I then bought lights to go round the mirror. I love a dressing table!

Wilkolampshade · 06/11/2022 21:10

Well my early 20's DD has one, fell in love with an old one in her student rental and when she moved out bought an old one off ebay for her flat. Loves it. Tbh, I'm quite jealous. It seems very focused in some way. Sorry no pictures OP but imagine an mid century one, pot plants, fairy lights.

Joke is on you @Fufumcgoo

How do people NOT have one? I’m 33 and didn’t have one in previous flat, drove me mad sitting on the floor 😂

Attached is current set up before it turned into a bomb site after having baby that is

I’ve just moved house, and have been relegated to the box bedroom (that’s not really a box, because there’s no right angles to be seen in this room Grin) so, until I can figure out where the fuck to put one, I’ve got a Hobbycraft trolley.

Make up on the top, hairdryer/other tools/grips/scrunchies on the middle, bottom part has my hot waxing kit + brow tinting kit. Mirror is in the (oddly big) hallway outside because there’s shockingly little natural light in here.

It’s driving me bonkers. I’m 36, have always had a dressing table (at one point, it was in my dressing room, oh, those pre child days) and now I don’t.

RosieRoww · 06/11/2022 21:15

Btw I wish to have one but don't have enough space.
So I have only gloomy bathroom mirror.😵‍💫

Blibbleflibble · 06/11/2022 21:15

Orbit oak dressing table from brand interiors bought 6 years ago though. X

Don’t have the room for a proper dressing table so use top of my tall chest of drawers

Oh that’s brilliant, teen DDs would love that. They opted for desks over feeding tables and have regrets.

DrFoxtrot · 06/11/2022 21:23

I've never had a dressing table and it seems to me a really decadent thing to have Grin. I have never sat down to do my hair, apart from at the hairdresser. At home I stand in front of a huge mirror. My hair is long and I don't think I'd be able to do all the reaching, turning my head upside down etc sitting down. And I think I'd get sweaty sitting down. Make up is done in the bathroom mirror where the light is excellent.
