Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

I would think that was completely neutral and I wouldnt pay it any attention

BashfulClam · 05/11/2022 16:55

It’s up to them. It’s not bothering anyone.

Brigante9 · 05/11/2022 16:55

I so agree! I took a school trip away and some students appeared at dinner in pyjamas! I sent them straight back to their rooms to change. I just felt it was inappropriate. They thought I was being OTT and told me they go to the supermarket in them. With random people obviously also staying there, I felt it was just wrong.

Bunsandtophats · 05/11/2022 16:56

Totally inappropriate imo

Changingplace · 05/11/2022 16:56

I would never do this, but I’ve seen other people do it, I think it’s a bit weird, takes 2mins to throw some clothes on.

MummyDummyNow · 05/11/2022 16:56

Totally inappropriate!

Wailywailywaily · 05/11/2022 16:57

It wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. It’s not something I would do but I don’t care if others do

AnuSTart · 05/11/2022 16:57

I would salute them. So many times I've skipped breakfast because I couldn't be bothered to dress and knew people like you would judge!! Awful. It didn't affect you in any way.
Good for them!

DrManhattan · 05/11/2022 16:58

It's well scruffy

lechatnoir · 05/11/2022 16:58

No ridiculous and surprised the hotel allowed it.

FourChimneys · 05/11/2022 16:59

I think it's scummy. Have they washed? Have they cleaned their teeth, brushed their hair?

ofwarren · 05/11/2022 16:59

It wouldn't bother me seeing it. I wouldn't do it though.

PottyDottyDotPot · 05/11/2022 16:59

It’s a no from me.

NumberTheory · 05/11/2022 17:00

I think this is a bit like dressing for dinner - it depends on the hotel/restaurant. If it’s one where the ambience is an important part of why people stay (and that ambience isn’t “super relaxed vibe” then PJs for breakfast and scruffy jeans for dinner are inappropriate. If it’s tourist land, or a cheap stay over in the city, etc. and there are people wearing all sorts and you’re all just getting on with your day then (providing the PJs don’t gape!) it really doesn’t matter.

Hbh17 · 05/11/2022 17:00

You are correct. Totally inappropriate and I'm not sure why hotels allow it.

Butterbean9 · 05/11/2022 17:00

I don't see the problem, they're dressed.

What's the difference between pyjamas and trousers and top?

I couldn't care less what other people are wearing.

drawstringbags · 05/11/2022 17:00

It's something I wouldn't do.
My reasoning would be because I prefer to keep pyjamas clean by not sitting in places used by the general public. It wouldn't bother me if others did it though, because it doesn't effect me in any way.

SudokuMania · 05/11/2022 17:02

I stayed in catered accommodation at university. They did not appreciate students coming down to breakfast in pyjamas and put a stop to it quickly.
One guy used to wear clothes over his pyjamas - acting like he was 'sticking it to the man'! Grin

Halloweenshock · 05/11/2022 17:03

So unbelievably slovenly! Grim! I’d be straight to reception to complain and would never go to that hotel again. If their standards are that low that they let people go to breakfast in their pj’s then the hotel is beneath me and I am no hyacinth bucket!

Topseyt123 · 05/11/2022 17:03

I don't think it is appropriate. I wouldn't do it and have never let my family either. We shower and get dressed first. I wouldn't feel right otherwise.

I probably wouldn't pay another family that much attention if they did it, beyond thinking that they looked like scruffs.

Wisterical · 05/11/2022 17:05

@waltty why on earth are you bothered about what other people wear?

OohMrBingley · 05/11/2022 17:06

YANBU.

I freely judge anyone who wears pyjamas in front of anyone other than their family in their own home.

Have a shower and get dressed.

LolaSmiles · 05/11/2022 17:07

YANBU It doesn't take much to get dressed for the day, but if you're going to want to go down to breakfast in your pyjamas then have some loungewear that can be worn in bed or casually.

I feel the same about school runs and supermarket trips in pyjamas. If you want to leave the house in your nightwear, buy your nightwear that looks like casual loungewear/athleisure clothing.

DrManhattan · 05/11/2022 17:07

Maybe because they have paid money to stay in a hotel and have breakfast and don't want to be sat near people who smell of bed-sweat and morning breath

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 05/11/2022 17:08

I wouldn't do it and would probably wonder why they didn't have breakfast in their room (if that was available)
Lots of people saying it wouldn't bother them and, in reality it makes no difference at all to anyone else's eating experience...but...I think I would think it was a bit strange. I mean my teen often is in pjs til mid day or beyond but I wouldnt expect her to go out to a cafe for brunch or lunch without getting dressed.
