AIBU to think when staying in hotel should not go down to breakfast in pyjamas

Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

Ime people in real life are far more likely to openly judge stuff like this than on here where being ‘judgey’ is a cardinal sin.

You must frequent a different part of mumsnet because all I ever see are horrible judgemental people on here 🤣

Energypanic · 05/11/2022 18:00

I've done this many times. Getting dressed is quite painful due to my disabilities and I need to take my medication before I do so to make it bearable. I also have to take my medication with food so I need to eat before getting dressed.

Luckily I've never run into anyone as judgemental as you in real life.

MintyFreshOne · 05/11/2022 18:02

Depends on the venue really

You do realise in real life you can’t read / see / hear people’s thoughts.

Whereas on here, people tell you what they’re actually thinking.

And what people actually think can be quite a revelation.

Fluffydiamond · 05/11/2022 18:03

Absolutely grim. I'm not particularly precious but wearing pyjamas in public is inappropriate. Unless it absolutely cannot be helped, for example, if someone is a patient in hospital. I don't understand the lack of shame. So embarrassing. You should be washed and dressed for public meals.

orangeisthenewpuce · 05/11/2022 18:03

I think it's really skanky to do that. Just get dressed you scruffs.

SunshineAndFizz · 05/11/2022 18:03

I would judge. Do people not have any standards anymore? Surely wearing clothes in public isn't too much to ask.

MarshaMelrose · 05/11/2022 18:03

Literally no one in real life cares about stuff like this

Yeah, they do. I think its rude to the other guests. You should waer appropriate clothing in respect of other people. I feel the, same about people going in their pj's to the supermarket. Have some self respect and put your clothes on.

fruktsoda · 05/11/2022 18:07

I'd think it was weird and lazy, tbh. It's one of those things that shouldn't really matter and makes no actual difference in my life, but it's still odd.

mumda · 05/11/2022 18:07

Some of us need breakfast clothes as well as rest of the day clothes. A full English can get messy.

Walkbyall · 05/11/2022 18:07

So grim

Not if you have basic knife and fork skills and have heard of napkins. Confused

stuntbubbles · 05/11/2022 18:08

I wouldn’t do it, I’d silently judge, but I wouldn’t actually care. How is it “inappropriate”? Doesn’t affect anyone.

Whatsleftnow · 05/11/2022 18:10

I don’t think I’d be overly bothered these days. There was a time when the social norms were clearer. I’d still mentally downgrade the hotel though.

Schmeeeee · 05/11/2022 18:12

Totally inappropriate. People have no respect or manners anymore. I would think they're quite chavvy.

femfemlicious · 05/11/2022 18:14

CookPassBabtridge · 05/11/2022 17:09

They've been sweating and farting in those all night so YANBU!

People sweat and fart in all clothes so.....

Ive never done it but i would if i had to.

MumOfOne55 · 05/11/2022 18:14

You wouldn’t see anyone of normal intelligence wearing their pyjamas in public. Only chavs do that.

Zone2NorthLondon · 05/11/2022 18:15

Children in pj ok. Adults no it’s minging. Attention seeking and oh we are so relaxed and casual that we wear our PJ to breakfast. Look at is being all relaxed

SofiaSoFar · 05/11/2022 18:15

YANBU!

You need Breakfast clothes? Why?Is eating a splashy endeavour requiring different attire

Jaxhog · 05/11/2022 18:17

Only if they wear a dressing gown as well.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 05/11/2022 18:18

Totally inappropriate and grim.

Hazlenutlatte23 · 05/11/2022 17:26

I don't get the overreaction on this thread. I personally have never gone to breakfast in my pjs but I would if it was the norm! Also, the posters commenting about how gross because they won't have showered or brushed their teeth etc. Well I get dressed for the hotel breakfast but I never shower in the morning, always at night, and I brush my teeth after breakfast!

But it’s not the norm, that’s why people are being judgemental, as am I.
Put clothes on in public spaces, it pretty fucking basic.

stuntbubbles · 05/11/2022 18:20

Why is it “grim” though? They’re not rubbing their sweaty night bodies on the omelette station?

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 05/11/2022 18:21

stuntbubbles · 05/11/2022 18:08

I wouldn’t do it, I’d silently judge, but I wouldn’t actually care. How is it “inappropriate”? Doesn’t affect anyone.

But it does affect others; it makes for a slovenly and low-class ambience in the restaurant.

If you think clothing does not matter: Would you attend a job interview in your wedding dress, or wear your swimming costume to church, or go to a restaurant clad only in your pants and bra? If not, why not, if clothing doesn't affect anything?

There still is a thing as proper public decorum, and wearing street clothes rather than lounging attire and sleepwear in public is part of that.
