Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

No only the mumsnet precious brigade.

The fact that some hotels have signs saying ‘put your clothes on for breakfast, you lazy scuzzer’ means people in real life care.

Inyournewdress · 05/11/2022 17:42

I have never witnessed this so yes I would be taken aback! Yanbu.

Tulipomania · 05/11/2022 17:42

Completely inappropriate.

I've never seen that happen either.

musicviking1 · 05/11/2022 17:44

It would make me feel sick, they obviously haven't washed.

Stephy1886 · 05/11/2022 17:45

Must be an English thing

peridito · 05/11/2022 17:46

I don't know about others but I tend to unfetter my bulgy and dangly bits when I go to bed .
Seeing someone in pjs would have me wondering what undergarments,if any were being worn .Maybe under their pjs before popping into bed the women keep their bra ,knickers and (heaven forfend) the men sport some kind of restraining item for their loose bits .But I'd find it hard not to reflect on the idea that they are sitting having breakfast near me and are nearly naked !

maddy68 · 05/11/2022 17:46

Maybe they were going back to bed for a lie in after they have eaten ?

wheresmyshoe · 05/11/2022 17:46

Of course it's inappropriate.

Kindofcrunchy · 05/11/2022 17:48

Why on earth would you clean your teeth before eating breakfast? Bloody waste of time

I would not eat a meal at a hotel in my pyjamas though, breakfast or not! Very weird.

Notonthestairs · 05/11/2022 17:48

I've seen whole families appear in silk pyjama's and silk dressing gowns in a 5 star hotel in Portugal. They actually looked quite glamorous (with a hint of louche) in comparison with our hastily thrown on shorts and T-shirt.

No idea why it would put you off your weetabix.

MarigoldMoonStone · 05/11/2022 17:49

Each to their own, but I wouldn’t. I feel weird walking about the hotel in a dressing gown when it has a spa (from room to spa!)

MumOfOne55 · 05/11/2022 17:50

Completely inappropriate. How lazy. If they turn up in nightwear they probably haven’t washed either. Even if they have, that’s how it will look. Slobs! Pyjamas are for bed only.

PrincessJanet · 05/11/2022 17:51

It's not often I use the word, but this really is grim.

Are they wearing underwear under the pyjamas, or is everything hanging loose? And lots of people tend to smell a bit, er, not fresh, without a morning wash and change of clothes.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 05/11/2022 17:51

Mingers

rainyskylight · 05/11/2022 17:51

I think it’s pretty shocking how many people here think that this is ok. Perhaps they’re the same people that wear their pyjamas for the school run and the supermarket. I judge so hard.

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 05/11/2022 17:52

I've seen signs on the door of the supermarket asking people to wear tops (it was hot weather) so presumably not everyone did, unless reminded.

PrincessJanet · 05/11/2022 17:52

Why on earth would you clean your teeth before eating breakfast? Bloody waste of time Because other people at breakfast may be able to smell your breath. I have noticed this in hotels, or even early morning shopping. (Used to have a lot of hotel stays for work).

Eastie77Returns · 05/11/2022 17:53

I saw this in a hotel (Premier Inn) a few months ago. Mum and 2 kids came down in their PJs. Mum also had a shower cap on. She then proceeded to get an iPad out and FaceTime someone so we were all treated to a 20 shouting match between her and whoever she called whilst she slurped her coffee. Meanwhile the kids ran amok, piling their plates up with cooked breakfast bits that spilt everywhere. It was all a bit surreal.

Well, of course they are. What else would people who appear in public in pyjamas be doing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yerroblemom1923 · 05/11/2022 17:54

Scummy. I once worked in a hotel where the owner sent a couple of women back to their rooms to get dressed as they thought it fit to come down for breakfast in their Pjs! Just not on.

dancinfeet · 05/11/2022 17:55

its scruffy and inappropriate

BabyClubYEEAAH · 05/11/2022 17:26

Literally no one in real life cares about stuff like this

Ime people in real life are far more likely to openly judge stuff like this than on here where being ‘judgey’ is a cardinal sin.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/11/2022 17:55

I saw a family doing this at The Grand in Brighton. So odd!

AuntieMaggie · 05/11/2022 17:57

How about not being so judgemental and snobby? You have no idea of their situation. They could be living in the hotel for any number of reasons and not have clean clothing other than pyjamas to wear to breakfast.

It doesn't bother me, I couldn't care less what they wear as long as they're dressed as it's not my business. And no it's not something I would do.

OohMrBingley · 05/11/2022 17:59

as long as they're dressed

How about not being so judgmental and snobby? You have no idea of their situation. They could be naturists, or have sensory issues, yada, yada…
