AIBU to think when staying in hotel should not go down to breakfast in pyjamas

Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

I saw a woman do this recently. She was wearing silky pyjamas, flip flops and her hair up. She actually looked very elegant!

Yanbu. Can only think people saying Yabu are on the wind-up.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/11/2022 18:23

It’s lazy and slovenly. I’m surprised that any hotel that isn’t a very downmarket dump would allow it.

Of course it doesn’t directly affect other guests, but that’s hardly the point.

CuriousCatfish · 05/11/2022 18:26

Just need a 'vile' for the full house.

Was it Katie Price?

parrotonthesofa · 05/11/2022 18:29

I'm am so surprised that people have a problem with this. I wouldn't bat an eyelid. I don't often stay in hotels though so not much experience of etiquette.

TitsInAbsentia · 05/11/2022 18:29

Ugh...no need. if you can't get room service then at least put on last nights clothes maybe and then go back and shower after breakfast.

PurplePixies · 05/11/2022 18:30

You’re all a load of nasty judgy harridans.

Who cares what other people choose to wear?

BogRollBOGOF · 05/11/2022 18:32

Night wear tends to be thinner fabrics than standard clothes or "loungewear" and isn't necessarily the quality or fit of clothing that is standard to wear in public spaces.

A hotel dining space is a public place with according expectations of public behaviour and presentation.

If you've come down washed, in fresh underwear, brushed hair etc, why wouldn't you come in regular clothing. If you're in nightwear, what other basics have you omitted...

StarbucksSmarterSister · 05/11/2022 18:32

The hotel restaurant is a public area. What kind of person goes out in public in their nightwear?

And have they never heard of room service?

How totally slovenly.

Yes, I’m judgy - tell me something I don’t know!

If it’s only just dawning on the public pyjama wearers that others are silently (IRL; openly on here) judging you, the rude awakening must be quite a shock.

LadyAddle · 05/11/2022 18:36

That's revolting.

Runmybathforme · 05/11/2022 18:37

That's disgusting. These people have no pride .

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 05/11/2022 18:21

But it does affect others; it makes for a slovenly and low-class ambience in the restaurant.

If you think clothing does not matter: Would you attend a job interview in your wedding dress, or wear your swimming costume to church, or go to a restaurant clad only in your pants and bra? If not, why not, if clothing doesn't affect anything?

There still is a thing as proper public decorum, and wearing street clothes rather than lounging attire and sleepwear in public is part of that.

I don’t think clothing doesn’t matter! I worked in fashion for 20 years. I think other people’s slovenly attire doesn’t affect me, or the restaurant ambience, or do anything other than reflect badly on them. If I see people in PJs in a hotel breakfast room it doesn’t stop me concentrating on my croissant.

Icannever · 05/11/2022 18:39

My kids sometimes go to breakfast in their pjs if we stay in a premier inn. If it’s a stop off I will basically pack pjs and one change of clothes so if they get dressed for breakfast they are likely to get their clean clothes very messy and I prefer them to have a shower and get clean for the day after breakfast.

They don’t wear normal pjs though, usually just shorts and a t shirt so it’s not exactly noticeable and I would def never do it myself as I am an adult 😊

XenoBitch · 05/11/2022 18:40

I just want to eat my breakfast and get on with my day. I don't give a fuck about what other people are wearing, and don't even notice.

That's vile...

There you go. 🙂

LesOliviers · 05/11/2022 18:41

It wouldn't bother me. I've done it on girls city breaks away when I've been hungover. They've not been luxury hotels, but neither complete hovels.

stemthetide · 05/11/2022 18:41

Such judgmental language!

And yes, I judge people who don't distinguish between private and public dress and behaviour.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2022 18:42

I wore PJ trousers on a business class flight to the Caribbean this summer (and all through the airports!). They just looked like wide legged jersey trousers though. Plus I've never worn them to sleep in.

Well, not complete...

Would it put me off my Eggs Benedict - No.

Would I judge - absolutely. Just scuzzy.

ShamedBySiri · 05/11/2022 18:44

If they don't want to get dressed why don't they have room service breakfast in bed?
I had three nights away a couple of weeks ago and had a lovely room service breakfast every day.

whynotwhatknot · 05/11/2022 18:44

i usually if running late just throw some clothes on then go back for a shower

id love to see someone do this in a vegas hotel with hundreds of people gambling

Shouldawouldacoulda30 · 05/11/2022 18:45
