Albanian migrants question

Everyone knows the U.K. is really short of staff since Brexit and that is pushing up prices for food etc. If we now (like it or not) have a huge influx of Albanian young men who actually want to work, wouldn’t we be better off letting them legally get jobs here and treating them like the Europeans who left?

Maybe I’m being too simplistic here but I’m not sure how keeping them unhappily detained for long periods in processing centres then spending something like £7m a day putting them in hotels without letting them work is helping anyone. Obviously it’s different if someone has just come over to claim benefits and has no intention of working but I get the impression that’s not the case for a lot of these young men.

If you think I’m wrong, you can explain why and still be nice about it 😁

Because they’ve been trafficked.

What's your evidence that large numbers of Albanian men are trafficked?

Blossomtoes · 05/11/2022 14:19

Because we won’t let them work.

Many years ago, we used to chat to some lovely Albanian chaps who went to our local portugese cafe etc....after getting to know some of them....they finally admitted they had pretended to be kosovan to get into uk as refugees....they worked and have to say were very nice men....they also said how easy it was to buy a good fake italian or greek passport if needed etc....
Now....in the last year....we have appx 8 cafes popped up in our high st...all full of albanian young men...glued to phones... chain smoking...no other customers use these places....all fronts for money laundering...they are quite palatial inside...very modern decor etc..a stream of luxury souped up cars all parked outside...tenants of flats above have reported seeing suitcases of cash being counted out....young girls floating in and out of the premises etc...its now a fact they control most of uk cocaine business....sex trafficking etc...these are the ones that need to be returned fast....!!

They need to deport them straight home in my opinion.

So we can play boomerang when the circumstances that led them here in the first place recur? You’re underestimating the reach and power of the gangs getting them over here, people are often immediately thousands in debt and are working that off or under threat of harm to themselves or their families.

That's what I thought.

Do people really see Albanian men as the victims here?

Really?

Corcory · 05/11/2022 14:22

I don't think you can just let any undocumented person who has arrived in a clandestine way work here. Because they intentionally get rid of all their identifying documents and phones, they come to get as much time here as possible and play the system. If anyone is a genuine refugee, why would they do this?

Try the other way round? 😂
And don’t minimise trafficking victims by referring to them as getting “shagged”.

What circumstances led Albanian men to Britain?

They're probably more likely to be the gang masters rather than their victims.

That's actually believable.

You really think all these young Albanian men are coming here illegally to work legitimately and pay UK taxes? Seriously?

Actually, for a lot of them, yes. Albania is a poor country, a lot of ambitious young people feel that emigrating will offer them better opportunities.

RAPED.

Your British husband though will refer to it as shagging.

What's your alternative to that?

But it isn't 'young people', is it? It's young men.

And while Albania is relatively poor by European standards, it's hardly so destitute that you'd need to be smuggled into another European country so you can work illegally picking apples or washing cars. Let's get real here.

micedontpaint · 05/11/2022 14:28

Ambitious people are able to forge a way to travel globally, legally. They can be from anywhere. Even if you don't make lots of money you can still do it, one of my best friends is from Romania and came here and had children and is a contributing member of British society who I have no issue with.

But no, we can't just have all and sundry turn up and stay. Women and children fleeing war, yes. Men fleeing actual persecution, yes.

People unfortunate enough to be born in a stable yet poor country? No. It's simply not our government's problem and it's not my problem nor my children's problem, who deserve a safe and free society where everyone is able to be held accountable for their actions via official documentation with the government.

I don’t remember claiming a majority were men or women? As it goes most asylum claims are by women but that doesn’t discount men from being trafficked. It’s bizarre that you seem to implying that’s not possible?

Exactly. They're told what to say when they get on the boat. It's not genuine.

Albania has a current and growing job shortage. Loads of jobs if those young men want them.

TheNosehasit · 05/11/2022 14:30

These don't come into Europe on boats to Italy. They are crime gangs who can get into London.
