AIBU to think this is not tat

Recently purchased this rather gorgeous glass and metal pineapple from our local charity shop. I love it, but DH thinks it's ugly tat. Obviously he's wrong and has no appreciation for it's beauty. Maybe you lovely MN'ers can settle this argument for me.

YANBU, it's divine.
YABU, it's tat.

Obviously I know what this answer is 😁...If anyone has one, or knows where it's from I'd be intrigued to know, I'm thinking TKMaxx.

Love it! I am on the lookout for a new sweets jar and would have bought it in a heartbeat. I am also on the lookout for new sofas and quite like the texture of the fabric(?) of your sofas.

bloodywitchescat · 05/11/2022 12:12

Team Tat, DH is right.

Redkettle · 05/11/2022 12:13

It's hideous lol

Newjobnewstart · 05/11/2022 12:14

Em are pineapples not the new pampas grass?

Oml, 168 votes and 90% say tat???? Maybe the grey overcast weather is clouding peoples appreciation of obvious beauty. That's what I'm going with anyway.

It could be as sunny as the desert in mid-summer and would still look like tat to me.

The blue is lovely but the white iridescent colour makes it look tatty imo. If that bit was clear heavy glass, I’d think differently because you could put a mix of things in there to change the colour of the inside or add a bit of cordless lights inside to use as a source of light.

slavetothekittens · 05/11/2022 12:14

I like it, type of thing I'd pick up if I saw it in a charity shop.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 05/11/2022 12:14

I like it although I wouldn't buy it.

Cinders88 · 05/11/2022 12:15

Aw no .. I vote tat I’m afraid!

XelaM · 05/11/2022 12:15

Pitterpatterofrain · 05/11/2022 11:48

Yes it's that and it reminds me of this....

. 😂

😂😂😂😂

Tiredmumno1 · 05/11/2022 12:15

I also think you need to put lights in it, then take another pic so we can see if it looks better or worse 😁

dottiedodah · 05/11/2022 12:15

Sorry OP looks like it belongs with the Slaters and their Bar! just mot my taste is all .Team DH!

BronwenFrideswide · 05/11/2022 12:16

That's not the famous MN stunt pineapple, it is an assassin pineapple. It will lacerate your wrists as you lean over the coffee table and have your eye out as you reach for the remote.
Re-home immediately.

Aw, @ShinyS1 you are taking all these posts in very good humour. It's not my cup of tea, but if you love it crack on. My husband has been known to purchase some very interesting items which have found their place in family legend and are something we frequently laugh about, so I say embrace the assassin pineapple and all the joy and hilarity it will bring to you.

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 05/11/2022 12:18

You couldn't pay me to have it, but my brother's ex-girlfriend would have loved it. He's still trying to de-Vegas the house since their split.

But if you love it, rock on, my dude!

Lentilweaver · 05/11/2022 12:18

Newjobnewstart · 05/11/2022 12:14

Em are pineapples not the new pampas grass?

Definitely keep it then:)

Maybe a tall dark neighbour may stop by...

Mynoodlesareoodles · 05/11/2022 12:19

Really shocked at the £8 price tag. You're really committed to it. Unless this is the going rate for charity shop pineapple jar purchases in your neck of the woods.

ShinyS1 · 05/11/2022 12:19

"£8 !!!!!! When you are spending money on books for £1 meals?"

You lot have eagle eyes, those were DH's purchases, the irony is not lost on me! But to be fair, I probably would have gone up to £9 for it, so I'm quite pleased.

I think it's hideous but it's in your house, not mine.

DH owns a hideous item, with the belief that it's worth something. I asked the removal men if they would drop it and I wouldn't claim but they said they were not allowed. Apparently they get asked that a lot 🤣

BeingHeldAtHunPoint · 05/11/2022 12:20

That is going to be an absolute dust magnet.

Tat. Sorry.

NotAnotherPylon · 05/11/2022 12:20

Eight squid? That shop had big windows🤣🤣

inappropriateraspberry · 05/11/2022 12:20

Monstrous tat I'm afraid. Not kitsch or retro, just ugly.

rumbypumby · 05/11/2022 12:21

Your husband is right. It's ugly.
You seem to love it though so I hope you enjoy it.

Thatboymum · 05/11/2022 12:21

Another dust gatherer and an ugly one at that

ReformedWaywardTeen · 05/11/2022 12:22

I absolutely love it even though it is tat.

Mind you half my house is tat otters think is terrible. My SIL despairs of my house as she likes minimalist cream everything

MistyGreenAndBlue · 05/11/2022 12:22

The lid is rather nice (in the right setting) but the body of it lets it down.

Neither pineapple shaped nor a nice finish.

As stunt pineapples go - 3/10. I'd probably paint the jar part gold and embrace the tackiness. 😁👍🏼

Rippled · 05/11/2022 12:22

Get an actual pineapple plant. They also produce "babies", so you can give plants to friends.

Nature > Factory tat, wasting the earth's resources
