I work in conveyancing and I have noticed a huge upsurge in people from England trying to sell up and move to Scotland. I know they will get more for their money up there but someone today and yesterday were total pissed off the Government. I am sure it works both ways and there is an influx to England but has anyone noticed a difference - particularly people from London especially.

If you are thinking of moving to the Highlands for the cooler weather in summer I have only two words for you "The Midge".
Good luck!

Trez1510 · 04/11/2022 22:10

@XingMing if you're so passionate about it, and you do truly seem to be so, why don't you become active in persuading your masters it's the correct thing to do? 🤔

Cosycover · 04/11/2022 22:14

Kissingfrogs25 · 04/11/2022 21:07

its most definitely education! The standards in Scotland are now so low that any child failing in England can move to Scotland and to top of the class and fast track their uni options

Whit a load of absolute shite you're talking

XingMing · 04/11/2022 22:15

Because I have quite a few Scottish friends living in Scotland who have served the nation and the Crown proudly in the armed forces for the United Kingdom.

StrataZon · 04/11/2022 22:15

You do understand the "offers over" system in Scotland? That will sell for quite a lot more

Bunnyfuller · 04/11/2022 22:15

Would love to move to Scotland, not least to support Indyref2, be back in the EU, away from ridiculous home buying laws and because the racists. So, so many racists.

ScotsLassie322 · 04/11/2022 22:16

Yip. Hence some new builds in Inverness going for £400k plus.

Jesus Christ it is striking how ill informed some people are about the actual reality. Sturgeon clearly managed to convince the slow witted at least.

Scotland would be one a third world country effectively overnight. The Scottish would be totally fucked. Pensions, savings, currency, status all become junk over night. Please look at the facts.

Your first sentence is laughable considering what bullshit you wrote afterwards.

What paper you reading?

The UK/England which funds the Barnett formula needs only to rescind it to throw Scotland's economy into deficit, at which point the EU which wants another needy nation like a hole in the head, would probably say no thanks.

But isn't Scotland the biggest contributor to the pot in the UK per head?

(I could be wrong, I am neither English nor Scottish. I was under the impression that Scotland contributed hundreds of billions and got less back than they contribute?)

Cosycover · 04/11/2022 22:19

Trez1510 · 04/11/2022 22:05

As a Scot I'm really enjoying being told how wee we are, how poor we are, and just how stupid we are by non-Scots.

No, seriously, I am.

I just wonder why non-Scots don't demand their own independence from the sponging Jocks? Why don't their masters want to offload the sponging Jocks?

Meanwhile, I'll just continue to thank the non-Scots for our free university tuition, free personal care, free prescriptions, free bridge tolls, free hospital car parking, carers' additional supplements, additional child supplements (£25 per child, per week), free bus passes for young people, and free baby boxes to welcome every new Scot.

I am specifically grateful due to the fact non-Scots deny themselves all of these things in order to provide them to us.

Thank you so very, very much.

👏👏👏
Damn that SNP giving us all this free stuff eh

XingMing · 04/11/2022 22:20

I do seriously believe that the UK is a good thing, Stronger together and all that lark. So I feel a bit cross with Nicola Sturgeon stirring shit and my response is to suggest that she should refuse the Barnett Formula subsidy if she can fill the funding gap. But, she can't.

Google the GERS figures. Scotland spends more than £2k per person than it raises. This is funded by the Barnett formula. Do a bit of basic research!

There are only two regions of the UK that raise more in tax than they spend - the South East of England and the Greater London area.

StrataZon · 04/11/2022 22:24

DemBonesDemBones · 04/11/2022 22:06

@StrataZon I live in an 'expensive' part of Scotland and it's still ridiculously cheap compared to London!

Well London yes. But there are large areas of England which are very similar prices or cheaper than much of Scotland.

XingMing · 04/11/2022 22:26

Thank you @Halloweenshock .

Halloweenshock · 04/11/2022 22:28

i really don’t see Scotland as a cheap place to live. There are cheap houses in areas of deprivation, but they are cheap for a reason. Edinburgh is on a par with any other big UK city outside of London - very expensive to live somewhere nice.

I moved to the Highlands last year. The midges weren't as bad as I expected this summer. We're right on the coast though so that probably helps. I'm so glad we managed to avoid the heatwaves, it was no more than pleasantly warm where we are.

Blocked · 04/11/2022 22:29

Alright @Halloweenshock I was only asking a question Confused

Freespirit42 · 04/11/2022 22:30

i live in Yorkshire my friend is wanting to move next year asked me if I want to go to scotland to I am not sure as I get carers etc so would have to sort that out but I can see why people are moving . I don’t think it’s the price it’s the gov policies now I am not a fan of snp etc but the tories are turning our country into a very hateful island where folks ring the radio and talk about shooting drowning refugees so I think scotland seem more progressive and hate the tories like I do

Roomytrouser · 04/11/2022 22:32

Zib · 04/11/2022 20:34

I love Scotland but my kids are approaching university age and we'd have to send them to English universities because of the lack of places for kids outside the deprived postcodes.

Wow, the many kids I know who don’t live in deprived postcodes getting their uni place have done exceptionally well then.

XingMing · 04/11/2022 22:33

No, actually @Blocked, you were swallowing and repeating an outright lie. Not maliciously I'm sure, but nonsense regardless.

Lozzybear · 04/11/2022 22:34

@Blocked where did you ever get the idea that Scotland is a net contributor?

DemBonesDemBones · 04/11/2022 22:35

@StrataZon but they're not as beautiful as Scotland (unofficial poll of one, me Grin)

Closetbeanmuncher · 04/11/2022 22:35

wee Jimmy Krankie 🤣

KitsilanoBeach · 04/11/2022 22:38

Tarragon123 · 04/11/2022 21:10

Scotland is not a 'breakaway' state. The Spanish constitution (set up by Franco) says that all states have to vote for and that is why the Spanish Govt did not recognise the Catalonian Referendum. It would have no problem in recognising a legal Independance Referendum in Scotland.

Spain absolutely does have a problem with the idea of Scottish independence as an independence. For the same reason Spain has never recognised Kosovo as an independent state.

I saw it on Twitter! I realise Twitter isn't a reliable source of information but it's not something I care enough about to go and actually check out.
