To think you can only be glamorous if you are slim?

I just can't think of one large or fat person who I would consider classy and glamorous.
I can think of loads of larger women who I would consider very pretty or beautiful but not glamorous.
I am fat by the way so not trying to shake anyone, just sad that I'll never be glam!

To me glamorous is a specific look that is very 'done' and quite dramatic. Very styled hair, visible make up and dressed up clothes. I actually think the style suits bigger women very well as it lends itself to a larger physical presence.

NutellaEllaElla · 02/11/2022 22:47

No, anyone can be glamorous with a good pair of sunglasses

FastFood · 02/11/2022 22:48

I'm sorry but I struggle to see how one can find Lizzo glamourous or elegant.
I'm sure she's really nice but god, she reminds me of Patrick Star from Sponge Bob.

Pinkypong · 02/11/2022 22:48

Holiday in Morocco, and in a music bar and one of the ladies got up and did a sort of belly dance. She totally owned it, I’ve never seen anyone so womanly and curvy and glamorous and she was large and at least 40. Maybe it’s our culture?

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 02/11/2022 22:49

Actually I've just spent the evening with a larger lady who's incredibly glamorous. I'm a size 8-10, she's around a 22, and every time I see her I think, "bloody hell, you look stunning."

She's just got "it", whatever "it" is!

Jenasaurus · 02/11/2022 22:52

This is a good dress for someone with an apple shape, I used to wear floaty dresses like this to cover my belly, I have slim limbs so this would cover my middle nicely. I appreciate the model is very slim though

I wouldn’t say Lizzo was glamorous, either. She always seems to be flashing flesh in skimpy outfits, as far as I can see...

Velvetween · 02/11/2022 22:56

YABU.

And is there just slim and then fat/large? No in between?

Theres a mum at our school gates and I find her v glam, in an understated and not showy way. She’s not slim but she’s not fat.

Nymeria6 · 02/11/2022 22:57

Of course you can.

@frostytimes I think you might be muddling up "glamorous" and "elegant". Anyone can look glamorous. Fat people rarely look elegant.

That's a very sweeping, and untrue, generalisation.

Off the top of my head. None of them are size 6.

Cardi B, she’s anything but glamorous

DillDanding · 02/11/2022 23:06

I think fat people are often very glamorous. As someone upthread said, opera singers are often very glam.

I’d describe someone as glamorous if they were always very dressed up, maybe a bit blingy. I have a couple of fat friends who are always the height of glam and big on accessories.

monsteramunch · 02/11/2022 23:06

Cardi B, she’s anything but glamorous

She can pull it off when she wants to.

She's not plus sized though!

Charlize43 · 02/11/2022 23:11

Diana Dors for those old enough to remember was very glammy.

User2145738790 · 02/11/2022 23:14

Can we confirm what meaning of the word "glamorous" we're going with?

Hardly any of those are even overweight, let alone 'fat'

I disagree with what the OP is saying, but the majority of the people you listed are neither large nor overweight.

Just returned from holiday where there were two very glamorous women in our hotel. They were very big - one was absolutely enormous. But they were both very glam. They wore stylish swim suits and poolside dresses, amazing hair, lots of make up, classy jewelry, expensive handbags. They managed to transform from pool wear to evening gowns without leaving their sun loungers - not quite sure how. DH was staring at them a lot 😂

monsteramunch · 02/11/2022 23:19

Queen Latifah can really nail elegant IMO.

I think Alison Hammond is incredibly stunning and definitely glamorous!

AliceAbsolum · 02/11/2022 23:21

Adele

Summerfun54321 · 02/11/2022 23:22

I thought glamorous was all to do with being well groomed and well presented and stylish, nothing to do with body shape or size.

Kitkatcatflap · 02/11/2022 23:22

100% agree OP and I am a porker.

Rebel Wilson and Adele only became classy and glamourous looks wise when they lost weight. Prior to that they were talented, attractive, well dressed big women but they have that extra sparkle and glamour now they have lost weight.

Alas, doesn't stop me from reaching for the biscuits though

BinBandit · 02/11/2022 23:27

I work with quite a few larger women I would describe as very classy and elegant, they dress well for their figure and are very well presented. I don't think it's a weight thing, I've been lots of weights and I'm never as well turned out regardless.

Same as with slim women (or any weight tbh) some women put more effort in, some are just naturally talented in dressing and other are less interested etc.

Neither way makes someone better than another and these women don't stand out to me because they are somehow classy and elegant despite being large, they stand out to me as they are some of a group of people I'm always impressed by for their seemingly effortless turnout. Also both thoroughly lovely women which is what i value about them most.
