To think you can only be glamorous if you are slim?

I just can't think of one large or fat person who I would consider classy and glamorous.
I can think of loads of larger women who I would consider very pretty or beautiful but not glamorous.
I am fat by the way so not trying to shake anyone, just sad that I'll never be glam!

Khloe Kardashian is definitely smaller than a size 6.

Most on this list are pretty small.

Stop dressing like Kate Middleton if you want to look glamorous! 😱😂

PMSL. What made you think I want to look glamorous? Elegant is my sole 'look'. I'll leave glamour for others. Now I think about it, I probably associate it with more curves than I will ever have. Which sort of answers the OP's question.

ReneBumsWombats · 02/11/2022 22:07

Marilyn Monroe was too curvy to be a fashion model, hence becoming a pinup one. You have only to watch a film of hers to see how slim she was. Yes, there are a few photographs where she's in a position that looks fleshier than is fashionable now, but that's because she was such a pronounced, exaggerated hourglass despite being tiny. Beyonce is pretty small in real life too.

Plus size women absolutely can be and are glamorous, but don't use Marilyn and Beyonce as examples.

bonzaitree · 02/11/2022 22:08

I disagree.

I think it's much easier to look glam if you're slim. But I think it's defo possible to look glam if you're other sizes.

I don't see anything glamorous about Chrissy Metz but I do with Ashley Graham.

It just shows all of this is in the eye of the beholder.

Absolutely. I'd never heard of Ashley graham and upon googling she doesn't seem to wear more than lingerie. Not glam to me. I'm very glad this variety of opinion happens- otherwise I myself wouldn't be loveable. In the eye of the beholder truly

YABU.
Cardi B
Khloe Kardashian
Marilyn Monroe
Beyonce
Melissa McCarthy
Kate Winslet
Queen Latifah
Rebel Wilson
Off the top of my head. None of them are size 6.

Lol someone's deluded.

Avastmehearties · 02/11/2022 22:12

Yes, I think it's about looked- after hair, teeth, skin, dressing for your shape, flattering fabrics and colours rather than clingy nylon. Great posture and confidence as well as clothes and makeup that create elegance as well as glamour. Nigella springs to mind (i know her weight varies), Ashley Graham, Lizzo, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Oprah, Dawn French. In terms of glitzy glam then Gemma Collins or Scarlett Moffatt have plenty of that.

frostytimes · 02/11/2022 22:14

@offyoufuckcuntychops yes I think you are right and I meant elegant! I've probably messed up my question now.

Godiva do some amazing glamourous plus size outfits however I think its more to do with shape than size. I was 3 stone heavier than I am now and my shape was hard to dress, I tended to where oversized tops and leggings as had all my weight in the middle, I would have looked like a lumpy sausage in anything clinging but had very slim legs. I wore size 24 tops and size 14 elasticated trousers. I am now able to wear size 14 all over and with the help of control pants I feel reasonably glamourous when I wear my beautiful sparkly Christmas dress. I think its harder if you have a strange shape. My daughter has a tiny waist with large boobs and bum and if she is at a higher weight looks amazing in a clinging dress as well as when she is a lower weight.

Divebar2021 · 02/11/2022 22:20

I definitely think an hourglass shape helps.. I’m a size 18 but hourglass and feel ok but maybe wouldn’t if I carried
my weight awkwardly. These are two glamorous - Poloma on the right is high fashion too. There’s a lovely video on her Instagram where she sees her Vogue cover for the first time.

A lot of larger women are glamorous - what are you on about? Beautiful ladies!

Plenty of slim women aren't glamorous either, but that's allowed because they are slim, let's be honest.

Fat people don't owe you shit.

quietnightmare · 02/11/2022 22:24

Any shape can be glamourous and classy, but your probably right in the sense that it is possibly 'easier' to be glamorous if you are slim. Also elegant seems easier too as all trends are wearable for a slim person.

Mezmer · 02/11/2022 22:26

No larger ladies can be extremely glamorous. My personal opinion however is that you need to have really good proportions preferably with a waist in order to look really good.

frostytimes · 02/11/2022 22:26

Hmm yes maybe it's a little more shape than weight. I think an hourglass is the ideal figure (for me) and I am some sort of weird apple.
Also agree posture for sure makes a difference (I have a sort of hump, yes all very attractive I know).
But like I said, I don't mean bigger women can't be attractive or beautiful because there are many, many beautiful larger women.
I mean you can't be elegant when you're overweight, it just seems you have to be thin.

I am really shocked at the list of women above who are being put forward as big!

Notthetoothfairy · 02/11/2022 22:26

You haven’t said what you consider to be “large or fat”.

Either way, YABU. Larger women (assuming you mean around a size 16) can be beautiful, elegant, glamorous and very sexy 🤷‍♀️

Billyhargrovesmullet · 02/11/2022 22:26

I’m overweight at the moment and don’t feel glam but I see lots of women my size and bigger who absolutely do yabvu

Fat people don't owe you shit.

What does this actually mean?

The OP isn't saying anyone owes her anything?

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 02/11/2022 22:32

Angel Strawbridge springs to mind - gorgeous retro glamour, she always looks spectacular.

HelloBunny · 02/11/2022 22:34

I only know one large woman who is very stylish / glamorous / well put-together. She wears really gorgeous clothes & knows how to dress her body type. She also has an outstanding personality, which adds to her whole vibe. She always looks great. She’s always been large.

I know plenty of slim women who dress terribly & buy their clothes in Primark (it’s a shop for teenagers). Some of them don’t have the budget to dress well, others simply don’t have the confidence (or taste). Most of them never look glamorous.

I’ve also noticed that women who are not naturally large, but put on weight with age / babies / not watching their diet tend to wear bad clothes in the bigger size they now embody. While their better “slim” wardrobe remains unworn / is donated to charity. I’d be I this category myself. My “bigger” clothes are regarded as temporary.

Therefore, I look more glamorous when slimmer as I have nicer “slim” clothes. And I make more of a general effort when wearing them than the supermarket stuff I buy when they don’t fit (after my baby for example). I suspect that loads of women do this, so style / glamour sometimes go out the window...

Mynameiselvispresley · 02/11/2022 22:35

Don’t be daft! In real life you encounter beautiful, elegant glamorous people at every shape and size. People are loved and lusted over at all sizes too. It’s not what is represented in the media but if 50% of people are overweight then it would be rather odd if that wasn’t the case.

I think most on the list above have curvy body shapes but are v small in terms of dress size. If you’re thinking famous people then Krystal Renn when plus sized (now midsized) is striking elegant and glamorous. Precious Lee is the epitome of glamour. Or type in midsized/plus sized fashion into Instagram. You’ll find loads.

Khloe Kardashian is definitely smaller than a size 6.

Cardi B, Beyoncé, and Khloe all have actual abs. Please don’t be so ridiculous.

Jenasaurus · 02/11/2022 22:39

I am an apple so will always look slightly less glam than a pear whatever my size

Khloe Kardashian is definitely smaller than a size 6.

😂😂 do you think Khloe has some sort of magic filter lens that follows her around in every paparazzi pic (they are well known for only taking flattering pics aren’t they 🙄) and in her actual TV programme making her look SO thin as she now looks? She’s absolutely tiny to the point she has no boobs anymore and no body fat. She looks about a UK size 6!

SeenYourArse · 02/11/2022 22:42

Wrong quote! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

MuckyPlucky · 02/11/2022 22:43

I associate ‘glamour’ with large curves, hourglass figures, corsets, ample bosoms, bright colours, big hair, glossy lips etc etc…. Therefore usually demonstrated best by curvier ‘plus-size’ women.

Slim women who are striking I’d never describe as glamorous… I’d think of them maybe as ‘attractive’ ‘beautiful’ etc but not associated with glamour per se.

FWIW I’m currently slim, used to be fat, and never been either glamorous or beautiful 😆
