Mine averages at 50-53 bpm
I have been told this is very low! But Not sure why.
How do you know if its a problem?
I dont have any other health concerns and am pretty active but not excessive or overly at the gym every day kind of person

Today
37 lowest (sat on sofa)
155 highest (during an 8 mile run)

Wombatbum · 17/11/2022 21:04

Now sat watching tv it’s 81/82.
Fitbit says it fluctuates between 68-74

cheltsam83 · 10/03/2024 10:20

really interesting stuff, I had an ECG as part of a work health check hear rythum flagged as ameber and Sinus Bradycardia 56 beats per min. I run1k a couple of times a week and go to gym classes. Reading all these I dont think I need to be going to my GP despite the report saying I should. All othe heart rates were normal. She did also say to breath very slowly druing the ECG! Blood pressure was a little high due to worry and LDL cholestorl 5.2. Time to cut down on Chocolatye :)

I've just tested mine and it's 74. I'm sure it's faster than it used to be, before I had Covid.

That won’t be accurate. Heart rate can increase just thinking of it. My resting heart rate is around 60, if I counted it now it would go to about 80.

RunningJo · 10/03/2024 10:34

Mine is 46

Wecomeone · 10/03/2024 10:36

59

Hoistupthemainsail · 10/03/2024 10:37

I'm 50 and mine is 49. I run a lot and al:9 train for triathlons so lots of cycling and swimming.

Pinchaperfect · 10/03/2024 10:52

mine is between 80-85. I take bisoprolol to help keep my heart rate that low, without it its about 110-115

lljkk · 10/03/2024 11:02

the classic way to measure it, 1st thing in morning in bed before you get up, I imagine it's about 53.

Fitbit uses a "sitting around doing nothing" rate estimate, which is 57 for me.

K0OLA1D · 10/03/2024 11:06

Mine really high. In the 70s or even 80s sometimes. I'm 33.

It sometimes feels like my heart is beating out of my chest when I wake up in the night. Palpitations aswell. But when I get my BP checked it's always on the low side

PlugUgly1980 · 10/03/2024 11:13

43 bpm. Age 43 but very active and fit, with running daily.

QueenVolcano · 10/03/2024 11:15

Mine's between 53-60. I'm 54 years old, non smoker, not overly active ( desk job but try to do at least 8000 steps a day) slightly overweight. When I used to drink, even one glass of wine would make it higher. I have extra systolic beats so had all sorts of heart tests including stress tests, both physical and chemical which I passed thank goodness. I kept my Fitbit on at the same time as they monitored me to see how accurate the pulse reading was, it matched the hospital's reading exactly. Pre menopause my blood pressure was always very low too, but that's changed and it's now 138/85 on average which my cardiologist says is too high.

All2Well · 10/03/2024 11:25

Aged 40 it's around 78 average according to my Apple Watch and 148 walking. Recent ECGs back this up. A very mild case of Covid appears to have caused damage to my heart which I'm under investigations for currently to see what the final diagnosis is. It's a horrible experience, I was one of the super fit 58ers in the not so distant past.

Ariela · 10/03/2024 11:54

Mine's always 49-55 when resting (unfit, overweight, don't go to gym or swim)

Pickingmyselfup · 10/03/2024 13:55

Mine is nearly 100 which is high considering I exercise a lot. I run 3 days a week, yesterday I did 10K although some of it was walking up the hills. I lift weights 2-3 days a week and and generally active walking and have an active job.

I did have to have tests because the doctors were concerned about it but nothing ever came of it so I just have a high heart rate. When I run it averages about 163 but can go up to 180.

JiraffDeSaki · 10/03/2024 14:12

This original thread is old. But still...when I took propranolol for migraine my resting heart rate was at 60-70, but I stopped it 2 years ago and they put me on candesartan instead. Since then it is consistently 90-100.

I'm 51, obese but I walk a lot.

HRTQueen · 10/03/2024 14:43

Around 70 I am on a low beta blocker overweight fairly active

I have bouts where it will rise to 110-120

I have recently been diagnosed with inappropriate tachycardia. Basically a fast heart for no reason and sensitive to changes ie. slightly low iron, a cold. For myself which isn’t unusual seems to be worse with hormonal changes. I have been been seeing GP with this since I was 13 and only recently diagnosed (50)

RedRosie · 10/03/2024 14:47

I'm in my late fifties, relatively fit, and have always had a resting heart rate of more than 70 (often over 90). I did query this with a GP once (and also asked about it when I was in hospital after an operation as I could see it on the machines). Apparently this is just normal for me.

BeyondMyWits · 10/03/2024 14:52

I'm 59, and resting heart rate is 64.

On beta blockers after a heart attack 6 years ago. (Do my blood pressure, resting heart and oxygen levels every day, medication is a marvellous thing, my numbers rarely change)

gershwinsdog · 10/03/2024 14:58

68 resting. I'm fairly fit

fabio12 · 10/03/2024 15:03

Mine is usually around the 50 at rest and was dropping to 40 when I was asleep which was worrying me as I was waking up feeling I couldn't breathe. However I have had a health scare recently involving my lungs and the temporary medication I am on now gives me racing heart rate when I am sitting still - it goes up to 130 fairly regularly just sitting these days! My resting average now is between 60-70 bpm.

I think low resting heart rate is generally seen as healthy when combined with a low BMI - mine is 19 at the moment and has never gone over 21 - which also is an indicator of physical health (on the whole with the exception of hugely muscly body builders or rugby players, for example). Obesity often causes a higher resting heart rate.

RedBellEnd · 10/03/2024 16:01

Mine was 48 till I got Long Covid and now it's high 60s. Covid is a right fucker for messing with your heart!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/03/2024 18:07

@RedBellEnd I am convinced my heart issues started with Covid.

I was a regular runner and was feeling really fit, then about 18 months ago my fitness just took a nose dive for no reason- breathlessness, palpitations, air hunger, missing/ectopic beats. I went from running 100 miles a month to struggling to run a 5km and needing 3-4 days recovery time. Exhausted all the time.

My RHR is 40, has been for at least 3 years now, and in a recent 24hr ecg trace it went as low as 31bpm in the night.

a combination of HRT (has stopped the palpitations) and iron (has stopped the breathlessness and eased the exhaustion) but the resting heart is still ploddingly slow. When I run it can go as high as 185-190 bpm. I try and exercise a few times a day (just a walk or stair climb for example) to pick my heart rate up as I feel so much better when it’s a bit higher.

doodlepants · 10/03/2024 18:09

When I was very fit it was about 45. But when I was watching tv I did see it reading at about 39 while just sitting.

It's about 50-55 now that I don't really work out. It's affected by lots of things though.

ALongHardWinter · 10/03/2024 18:13

I'm 60,not particularly fit and my resting heart rate varies between 62 and 68.
