I have been told this is very low! But Not sure why.
How do you know if its a problem?

How accurate are these Fitbit readings? Obviously, this MN thread isn’t a representative sample, but can everyone really be as low as 40-50?? Surely, that’s something you need to discuss with a GP if so?

mine was 60 last time I had a check up. Thought I’d mention it just to bring the MN average up!

LaurieFairyCake · 02/11/2022 21:28

Aged 52, resting heart rate of 65

Never exercise (never have ), one stone overweight

lifeinthehills · 02/11/2022 21:32

If sleep time overnight is included, my RHR is usually between 52-56. If I'm awake and lying on the couch reading or watching TV, it's usually low to mid 60s. I'm late 40s, reasonably active. I thought it was low but I gather it's actually quite normal. Had a good ECG about a year ago when concerned about indigestion pain.

IntentionalError · 02/11/2022 21:33

Just a sec, I’ll measure iT.

tick tock tick tock…

64, I’m in my 50s, a bit overweight & not particularly fit.

Littlewhitecat · 02/11/2022 21:35

54 BPM drops to as low as 40 when I'm asleep. I'm 50 and not particularly fit (I do parkrun and walk about 9k steps a day) and a bit chubby. I also have low blood pressure. Doctor is not worried and I'm just annoyed I can't run marathons.

Banrockmystation · 02/11/2022 21:35

62
im 41 overweight but quite fit and do regular exercise classes. I don’t wear mine to bed so this is just from being awake.

@Makingalistcheckingittwice if you run or do any kind of endurance exercise it's pretty common to have a low RHR.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/11/2022 21:38

Mine is freakishly low, 39 bpm average. I was unwell a few months ago and it dipped as low as 33bpm and I had an ECG, they said yes it is low but it’s not arrhythmic so basically nothing concerning, just naturally low. I am very cardio fit as I run a lot.

Mushroo · 02/11/2022 21:41

Everyone on here is so low! Mine is between 60 and 80 depending on where I am in my menstrual cycle. I had covid and it jumped to 86.

My Fitbit reckons that’s ‘average to good’ for a 30 year old, not particularly active (gym once or twice a week, plus walk a lot) person.

MotherOfCatBoy · 02/11/2022 21:44

Mine’s about 48, also a runner (with walking and yoga etc). My Garmin says that’s my resting rate, I think that means first thing in the morning. I notice that if I drink, it goes up by 5-10 bpm the next morning, returns to normal without alcohol (and it doesn’t take much - usually don’t drink in the week, only weekends, couple glasses of wine.) seeing the effect and knowing it doesn’t help sleep either is encouraging me to drink even less post menopause. Oh and I’m 50.

This would be classed as bradycardic. You might need an ECG and some monitoring. You can easily check your own pulse. I would definitely follow this up with your gp

QuebecBagnet · 02/11/2022 21:49

A friend of mine her resting heart rate is often below 40bpm and her Apple Watch is always alarming. Her GP isn’t in the slightest bit bothered. She’s slim and goes to the gym quite a bit but not an athlete.

dh is 60yo and his is 32bpm but he does run ultra marathons. Last time he was in hospital for something completely unrelated they didn’t want to let him out of a&e as they were so worried about it. He laughed and said he can’t stay for the rest of his life as it’s not going to improve and left!

QuebecBagnet · 02/11/2022 21:51

HR of 51-90 is considered normal on the NEWS score.

To ask what is your resting heart rate?
Vicliz24 · 02/11/2022 21:55

I'm 58 in two weeks and it averages 53 I'm a runner with an active job .

BirmaBrite · 02/11/2022 21:57

About 70- 80, but I am very fat and fifty, drink too much and vape. My blood pressure is spot on though.

DieSchottin93 · 02/11/2022 22:05

Mine is about 59bpm, I exercise daily so am pretty fit. The guy I go to the gym with is in his 60s and his resting heart rate is 44bpm 😱 but he is super active and has been for many years. I think the lowest mine has been whilst awake is 54bpm.

I do find my heart rate goes up to about mid 60s if I have a run of bad sleep - sleeps seeks to be the biggest factor in my resting heart rate.

It’s not the endurance runners I’m talking about- plenty of people saying they’re average fitness, or even unfit…

Iusedtoplaytherecorder · 02/11/2022 22:32

My Apple watch tells me it's currently 56. It's always been about this for my adult life. I used to be fit, now I'm definitely not - I'm at least 2 stone overweight and haven't exercised at all for over a year. Age 41.

When I was exercising (running or spinning) it would go up to about 186 max.

Tigofigo · 02/11/2022 22:37

Just took mine and it's 66, but can easily be as high as 80. I'm normal weight and reasonably active but not very fit at the moment. It goes up a lot when I'm also deprived, dehydrated or eat carbs / sugar / alcohol (which is most of the time, haha). I have blood pressure on the lower side.

AliceAbsolum · 02/11/2022 22:37

42 before I got pregnant. It's like 90 now

IAteAllTheBananas · 02/11/2022 22:40

Mines 55 according to Fitbit but it does jump up to 90+ as soon as I do anything

my heart is an all or nothing kind of heart

GordonShakespearedoesChristmas · 02/11/2022 22:55

Aged 59 with fibromyalgia and about 3st overweight but I do exercise quite a bit.
Resting heart rate 64. Happy with that!

happinessischocolate · 02/11/2022 22:55

Mines really low, the doctor said it's a good thing so I'm happy with that. Presumably it's an inherited hing as my dads was that low that when he passed out once, the paramedics couldn't find his pulse. And the nurse always comments on my dds too.

Parmesam · 02/11/2022 22:59

I'm a chonk with atrial fibrillation. If the tablets are working, my HR is about 60. Forgot my tabs? More like 140. I'm trying to lessen the chonk, though.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/11/2022 22:59

About 46 overnight. I can get it down to 50 in the day by relaxing. Currently 53 while relaxing in bed which is possibly elevated because of typing and recovering from 2+ hours of running today.

I've told DH that if I ever end up in hospital and the Drs are concerned, to tell them I'm a distance runner.

Aged early 40s.
