Macbeth8 · 02/11/2022 19:55

Mine averages at 50-53 bpm
I have been told this is very low! But Not sure why.
How do you know if its a problem?
I dont have any other health concerns and am pretty active but not excessive or overly at the gym every day kind of person

@ShinyPikachu what condition is that can I ask?

It's SVT. It's interesting to see I'm not alone on this thread with it. I've had to cut out caffeine almost completely and cut right back on alcohol because of it too.

runjy · 03/11/2022 13:54

thank you

Chickpea17 · 03/11/2022 13:58

60/65

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 03/11/2022 16:25

Probably between 85-90 at the moment. Am stressed and undergoing health investigations for another reason so that doesn't help.

When I've been healthier it's around 75

I'm 35 but not very active

FuckabethFuckor · 03/11/2022 16:26

Mid to high 50s. I'm very fit.

MotherOfCatBoy · 03/11/2022 17:47

i wonder if there’s a selection bias going here, in that everyone who gets checked by health professionals might have an underlying reason to be there - age, illness, some condition, an event, etc - and the average of that population is 60-80… but those who are generally fit and do aerobic/ cardio/ endurance regularly just don’t encounter the health services as often and so don’t make up a large enough part of the sample to pull down the average?
Obviously there are lots of things going on here including the accuracy or not of wrist monitors and inconsistencies in definition of “resting” etc, but in general, unless the whole population gets measured, including those with no reason to proactively encounter a health service, we don’t know what true average is.
Which makes this a really interesting thread!
Maybe there is research (sports research?) on it that we don’t know about. There’s bound to be something out there .

It depends where I am in my menstrual cycle. Last month (according to my Fitbit) my average resting heart rate was at a high of 78 in the day or two before my period started, then at a low of 67 at the end of my period. It then gradually creeps up after that. So I'd say my average is low 70s. I'm a bit overweight and very unfit, although I do try and always walk 10,000 steps a day.

lljkk · 03/11/2022 18:12

I get about 2 hours of exercise most days, mostly not aerobic.
Fitbit says my RHR is 59; I would measure it a different way & come up with 53 or 54.

I think DH's is high 30s. HE does things like 400km cycling in one day.

I would say that anyone with a resting heart rate of 30’ s to 42 needs to get checked out. The only people I know ( I work in an area that checks peoples heart rate) with less than 42 BPM are top end athletes and I am talking about Olympic level not your average runner.

I’m with you wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat
im a HCP and rarely come across anyone with a pulse under 50

OneTC · 03/11/2022 22:19

I also got kept in hospital after going in for an unrelated reason. Initially they said they thought I must be fit and then I explained that actually I was a heavy drinking 40-60 a day smoker of 20+ years and then it became a matter of concern. My heart rate was 50 and the situation couldn't really be described as restful. But 50 was normal for me at the time anyway. I had to have strong pain killers and possibly remember my low heart rate was a concern?

No longer a smoker or big drinker and my resting heart rate is now around 60

Herejustforthisone · 03/11/2022 23:43

63 bpm during the day, drops to 50-53 bpm overnight.

I do a lot of exercise though.

AdoraBell · 04/11/2022 22:54

79 this morning.

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 04/11/2022 23:01

46-51. I'm fairly active and 47. It's been low all my life. Just the way I'm made.

Butwhybecause · 04/11/2022 23:03

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 02/11/2022 20:06

I've just tested mine and it's 74. I'm sure it's faster than it used to be, before I had Covid.

Yes, I had Covid and am still feeling the after effects.
Mine seems to be around 72/74, a bit higher than it was pre-Covid.

NotTerfNorCis · 04/11/2022 23:05

According to the fitbit, it's in the sixties normally. Right now it's 68.

It went right up after the last Covid jab and took a few days to go back down.

Lillysmama8817 · 07/11/2022 00:09

So glad I found this thread.

I'm 34, obese and am extremely unfit. My rhr is currently 59, 2 weeks ago it was 67, these numbers include my sleeping average too. I did see my gp earlier in the year because my heart rate has dropping into the 40s while awake, she did and ecg which showed it was low but as I had no symptoms and my heart rhythm was fine she wasn't concerned. We both put it down to breastfeeding hormones and after stopping zoloft my heart rate went back up slowly.

I started intermittent fasting just over a week ago, doing 16:8 (sometimes 18:6 without realizing) and my rhr has dropped, it seems to be quite common with fasting as there are lots of people on reddit and Facebook whose rhr has dropped after fasting. I'll keep an eye on it and if I develop symptoms I'll see my gp again.

TiredButAlive · 07/11/2022 00:14

Mine is about 56. I'm not remotely fit. I have hypothyroidism.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/11/2022 00:24

My resting heart rate is 52 according to my Apple Watch.
I'm 61, walk a lot so reasonably fit though not an 'athlete', but also I'm on thyroxine.

80sMum · 07/11/2022 00:24

Mine fluctuates with the seasons. In summer, it's usually between 52 and 55 and in winter it's between 58 and 60. Currently 59.

borderterrierr · 07/11/2022 00:29

In April it was 175 resting. I was sent to a&e by my gp after getting them to see me face to face. She managed to capture it on a bp machine. Then an ecg.

So straight to a&e and then they thought it was svt, but it turned out to be Graves' disease overactive thyroid, meds have brought it down to 99 resting. So I'm getting there!

I wouldn't have known what it was without my Apple Watch 🤦‍♀️

MintJulia · 07/11/2022 00:36

59-61 I'm 59 and run/cycle/practice martial arts .

PeloFondo · 07/11/2022 00:36

About 70-80. It was 167 today when I was exercising gasping for air

AnnieSnap · 07/11/2022 00:48

On average 61 - 65. I’m 63.

Jenasaurus · 17/11/2022 11:24

Low 50s, im 57, diabetic, high cholesterol, fatty liver, but normal/lowish blood pressure and always have a resting heart rate in the 50s, even when I was 4 stone heavier, my heart seems to cope. I am now 10 stone 7 and exercise but still my resting heart rate is in the 50s

losingit31 · 17/11/2022 12:13

Currently 58, but as low as 48 including sleeping. It goes to low 50s when I'm running/exercising more. I'm 54 and normal weight.
