Mine averages at 50-53 bpm
I have been told this is very low! But Not sure why.
How do you know if its a problem?
I dont have any other health concerns and am pretty active but not excessive or overly at the gym every day kind of person

Mine is currently 44.
I'm 48 and fit. It drops really quickly after I've been running too.

HomeEdRocks18 · 02/11/2022 23:12

Mine used to be around 36-45bpm. I say used to, as I now have a pacemaker fitted due to my heart pausing last year. Now it's around 60bpm.
The adult normal rate is 60-100bpm according to my cardiologist.

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 03/11/2022 07:06

I would say that anyone with a resting heart rate of 30’ s to 42 needs to get checked out. The only people I know ( I work in an area that checks peoples heart rate) with less than 42 BPM are top end athletes and I am talking about Olympic level not your average runner.

MintChocCornetto · 03/11/2022 07:37

Checked out for what though? My RHR has always been low. I went for a health screening the other week and the nurse used one of those cuffs to measure it and she didn't even blink at a rate of 42.

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 03/11/2022 07:52

We refer anyone with a heart rate of under 50 for ECG. I can’t believe a nurse would not do further tests with a heart rate of 42. We do RHR checks on hundreds of people per week. I would say that in 10 years I have only seen a handful with less than 40. One of these was an Olympic rower and even they were checked out. The average is 60 to 80 of everyone we check.

Mine was 74 last night watching TV but I woke in the night and it was 68. So bear in mind that eating does raise it for a while after. Maybe also depends what you're doing even though 'resting', plus fear of doing it and the anticipation could maybe also? A little. But I don't know for sure.

TrickyD · 03/11/2022 09:54

Having felt dizzy for a few days, I was lying on the bed with a heart rate of 29, quietly dying, when DH had the sense to ring 111 who sent an ambulance. Whisked into hospital, cardiologist told me that high heart rates can easily be treated with tablets, but I needed a pacemaker to give me a ‘more appropriate’ heart rate.. This was inserted the next day and I went home the day after. My resting heart rate varies now between about 78 -101 and the a pacemaker kicks in to stop it going below 60. It’s kept me ticking over for nearly five years.

Dotjones · 03/11/2022 10:03

Usually somewhere in the 80s if I'm relaxed. Early 40s.

greenacrylicpaint · 03/11/2022 10:40

one thing to consider is that the heart rate measured at the wrist is not as acurate as a chest measurement.

if you tend to have cold hands your circulation is not as good and the measurements can measure lower than your actual heart rate.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 03/11/2022 10:54

Mine's 50-55, but I am on beta blockers (for migraines, rather than cardiac issues).

reigatecastle · 03/11/2022 10:55

Mine varies between about 60 and 68 depending on where I am in my monthly cycle. I am 50 and do lots of running and walking.

GoldenSpiral · 03/11/2022 11:10

My resting heart rate is 55bpm. I'm in my early thirties and walk a lot and run once a week. My mum is the same and in her late 50s, so I think it's genetic.

Tomorrowisalatterday · 03/11/2022 11:11

Mine is really high compared to everyone else's! It's usually around 80.

I am in my 40s, BMI around 30 but reasonably active (weights, Hiit twice a week plus lots of walking)

BananaChunk · 03/11/2022 11:20

Mine drops to 42 overnight but that's not your resting heart rate. My resting heart rate is anywhere between 47 and 52. Mine also drops massively if I run regularly.

Don't think there's anything wrong with me and no one has ever mentioned it

BananaChunk · 03/11/2022 11:23

@Tomorrowisalatterday dp has a BMI of 30 too and his is high but as he's losing weight and trying to get fitter, it's starting to come down. You'll probably see the results of your efforts really soon!

LindaEllen · 03/11/2022 11:29

Mine's 57-60 and I'm not fit at all so I'm not sure how mine is so low, but it's been that way ever since I got my first Fitbit 6 years ago (and probably before, but I wasn't measuring it then!)

Mrsmch123 · 03/11/2022 11:33

Mine used to constantly sit at 100. I had far too much caffeine. Now it sits at 63/65.

BananaChunk · 03/11/2022 11:39

I can also now tell when I'm getting ill because it jumps up. And if I ever have a drink! Alcohol seems to make it a lot higher!

Not necessarily. My RHR sits around 40 and whilst I'm fit I'm by no means olympic level!

VapeVamp12 · 03/11/2022 11:44

63 average
36, overweight but fairly active

Darbs76 · 03/11/2022 11:45

67 according to Fitbit

Hydrangeatea · 03/11/2022 11:47

52 years old, mine can go as low as 37-40 but tends to sit around mid 40's-50.

I am very cardiovascularly fit and now don't drink or smoke, both of which used to raise my heart rate and my blood pressure.

SafeMove · 03/11/2022 11:55

Mine was just 61. I didn't know that RHR was an indicator of health. I thought it was active heart rate that is a better indicator? It is one of the highlights of the gym for me, checking what my heartrate is and how it differs on the equipment. Distracts from how unpleasant the hour is.

Treadmill (I run for a minute, walk for a minute for 15 mins) 125
Bike 15 mins - 115
The absolute bastard cross trainer 15 mins - 140
Weights - comes down to 90-100
Stair machine - I don't even want to think about it!

Would love to know what my sats are during exercise as I get out of breath a lot - have got iron deficiency anaemia so it would be interesting to know what impact it has on lung capacity.

lunathestral · 03/11/2022 12:02

Parmesam · 02/11/2022 22:59

I'm a chonk with atrial fibrillation. If the tablets are working, my HR is about 60. Forgot my tabs? More like 140. I'm trying to lessen the chonk, though.

I'm with you - mines 68-78 if the beta blockers are doing their job & 120-150 if not

Ariela · 03/11/2022 12:03

Mine's 49-54. Blood pressure 120/60. Both have been same for last 50 years or so.
