To not solve 13 year olds Halloween fancy dress

DS needs a costume for tomorrow.

Nothing I have suggested is suitable.

I can't do anything about Amazon delivery times

We are skint.

I can't sew.

DS is upset but I've said he needs to be creative.

However - if you have any great free ideas I'll take 'em.

My son is wearing blue dungarees and a red shirt and cap. He's made a moustache out of black fur. His friend is wearing similar and they are the Mario brothers.
My daughters' boyfriends/DHs are going to parties dressed as Shaggy from Scooby Doo, a zombie, a killer surgeon, a skeleton pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean (borrowed the costume from DH).
You don't have to do it for him OP, but there must be something he can pull together. Gel his hair back and cover himself with talc and glitter and say he's Edward Cullen?

Halloween is Monday, most trick or treating will be done this weekend.

Nope Halloween is Halloween 31st.
Just like Santa only comes on 25th.

Abraxan · 28/10/2022 16:49

Halloween is Monday, most trick or treating will be done this weekend.

Not round here. Only happens in Halloween evening. Trick and Treaters locally wouldn't be getting any sweets if they came before Monday. Our estate gets dozens of T&Ters every year and it's only ever I. The actual night, regardless of which evening it falls on.

edwinbear · 28/10/2022 16:52

OP I have the exact same dilemma, 13yr old DS has a Halloween party to go to next week, (so I have more time than you admittedly), but he wants to be 'cool' rather than go as a pumpkin etc. We're going with black trackie bottoms, black hoodie, with the hood up and a mask. Can you manage to get him a mask?

FurAndFeathers · 28/10/2022 16:57

PeterRabbitIsNotHere · 28/10/2022 16:40

I'll tell those that knock on my door this weekend that they can't be real then because you say so!

Umm do you actually have any suggestions for the OP @PeterRabbitIsNotHere ? Or are you just on here to complain about other people’s kids going to fancy dress parties that affect you in absolutely no way?

@fruitstick I’d second the zombie-whatever idea (footballer/skateboarder etc) it’s easy and cheap to do.

I’d also have a quick youtube of face painting - cheap paints from Poundland or Wilkos and you can create some really convincing zombie/vampire/horror looks which will make any outfit more convincing

PeterRabbitIsNotHere · 28/10/2022 16:24

At 13 he shouldn't need a Halloween costume!

Who are you to decide what somebody else’s child can do??

Why not? He's 13 not 30, or are kids supposed to stop having fun when they're a teenager?

Lindy2 · 28/10/2022 17:03

Normal clothes combined with Halloween make up - zombie, skeleton, green face, whatever his level of creativity.

I hope he enjoys the party.

AdaColeman · 28/10/2022 17:03

Google "how to draw Halloween 3D spider". Done with eye pencil/eye liner on his cheek around his eye, they are very effective and creepy. (It's drawing in the shadows of the legs that gives the 3D effect, so have a practise first.)
Then just dark clothing, so the spider is the focus. 🕷 🕷 🕷 🕷

Hey! I'm 33 and I've got my costume sorted. Don't be so agist Wink

ThrowAwayOne · 28/10/2022 17:04

Gosh I can't believe someone would expect all trick or treaters to be under 5!!! And 13yo's do dress up and, shock, some still trick or treat!

The grown man with downs syndrome calls here every year dressed up with his bag of treats and huge smiles as he loves halloween, should he not be allowed to either?

Some miserable fuckers on here.

WhoooohMatron · 28/10/2022 17:05

OP could you just use facepaint to do a skeleton face and he can wear black clothes. They sell black and white facepaints in the supermarket very cheap.

What?!

Lindy2 · 28/10/2022 17:06

My 14 year old us wearing normal clothes and pouring a bottle of 99p fake blood over her head.

We're all going to a party and she'll also be trick or treating with her younger sister and some friends.

People who want to have fun for Halloween are allowed to regardless of their age!

ScottChegg · 28/10/2022 17:08

Zombie is for sure the easiest here. I have made fake wounds and fake blood from household items. The fake blood was golden syrup, red food colouring and cocoa powder if I recall correctly.

PeterRabbitIsNotHere · 28/10/2022 16:39

Nope. Trick or treating is always on Halloween, no matter what day.

CharlotteFlax · 28/10/2022 17:11

I also live in Manchester and no one has ever knocked on anything but Halloween for Trick or Treating.

And if you don't want any knockers don't put any signs of celebrating Halloween out and no one will.

Apologies! What you going as?

edwinbear · 28/10/2022 17:15

Re T&T, it's quite a big thing our way, nobody has an issue with teenage T&T's provided they follow the usual rules:

Decorated houses only
Make some effort with costumes (note some, even if it's normal clothes and a bit of make up)
Little ones go first
Manners - please, thank you, polite comments on the fantastic decorations some households go to in order that the whole community have a bit of fun
Acknowledging grown ups you meet on the way, be that parents, friends parents, teachers etc

Generally not being an idiot.

I second this. No decorations/lit pumpkins, no knockers on. And anyone coming on anything but the day itself would be given pretty short shrift!

enjoyingscience · 28/10/2022 17:19

99p shop for fake blood, then normal clothes - white t-shirt or old school shirt. Bloody hand prints on shirt and get him to stand in bath and pour the blood over his head so it drips down his face - looks pretty cool and very low effort.

Beninthesortingoffice · 28/10/2022 17:21

My fourteen year old is wearing black and has a cheap black and grey scarf from amazon (he is gru from the minions, very obvious, very cheap)

Olsi109 · 28/10/2022 17:23

TurtleTriplets · 28/10/2022 16:26

get a box, decorate it as an electricity bill and pop it over his head.

🤣🤣🤣

Toilet roll, bandages or ripped up sheet - a mummy

toomuchlaundry · 28/10/2022 17:29

Our local Facebook page is talking about T&T on Saturday rather than on Monday. And if Halloween is only on Monday why are so many people having parties this weekend?
