Just Stop Oil's daily protests

Is anyone else concerned about where these daily protests will lead us?

The public are clearly getting more and more irritated by their antics. It's only a matter of time before one of the protestors are seriously injured.

I'm also worried that the government will ban certain types of protest as a result?

Between 1780 and 2020 Britain pumped out 48billion tonnes of CO2. China has pumped out 50billion tonnes since 1980. China accounts for 14% of atmospheric pollution since the start of the industrial revolution; Britain just 4.6%.

Interesting fact I’ve seen.

Ummmm... just read that there's been a lorry crash on the M25 caused by a protestor! Was it JSO?

Road obviously shut at present as one of them up on a gantry above the road. Just leave them there!

Tara336 · 09/11/2022 08:56

Thank god no one was killed, its only a matter if time before something like this happened. Idiots.

MichelleScarn · 09/11/2022 09:08

No one killed but police officer and lorry drivers have been injured, and another officer had to go up to the gantry for safety of idiot up there, and while he was doing that what did JSO do? Another climb up! 🤬
Can anyone remind me what those bright orange JSO trousers get made from? Oh and their helmet? 🤔

We’re digging up and burning more coal than we ever have at any other point in history. That’s wild.

Making real strides in solving the climate crisis here. I, personally, have used 100 fewer plastic straws this year alone. Think of the potential.

Loics · 09/11/2022 10:06

I'm actually quite angry about this now. Stop arresting then releasing them to scurry back up the gantries to cause more injuries and deaths of people not involved in their stupidity. It's sheer luck that lorry collision wasn't a lot worse - in fact no it's not, it's likely down to the skill of the drivers doing what they could to mitigate the damage. So many of us have friends and family driving HGVs (and have done so ourselves), and the police officer could easily have been killed. They need to be given proper, substantial jail terms now.

Devoutspoken · 09/11/2022 10:09

How did the accident happen?

MichelleScarn · 09/11/2022 10:11

@Devoutspoken because of the idiots from JSO blocking the road and climbing gantries.
Absolutely their fault.

MichelleScarn · 09/11/2022 10:13

Like @Loics also have friends and family in hgvs and police and also thinking of everyone else impacted by this shit so this is really annoying me!
People driving home from night shift, knackered then stuck in traffic. People unable to get to work or hospital appointments. Its awful.

@Liebig 'come on dude really' ?

Absolutely do not understand that response. Do you think these twats action are amusing?

MichelleScarn · 09/11/2022 11:02

Oh right, you're saying you don't think the actions of JSO are very intelligent!

Good on them. Fully support them and if you value your future then you should too.

Also how are you enjoying the cost of living increase because we are funding these fossil fuel giants instead of investing in renewable energy which will be far cheaper for everyone and doesn’t kill our planet?

It isn’t retarded. We need systemic change so that taxes and laws are passed that make environmentally friendly choices available, viable and affordable.

How do you like all the floods then? All the increased flooding will have far more impact on everyone than a few people protesting

Also, lol, environmentally friendly choices.

If we all buy organic and recycle, I’m sure the planet can just keep supporting 8 billion+ humans living as the average European. Absolutely no problems with doing what we’ve been doing, but green.

I wonder if Just Stop Oil will be heading off to Egypt for the next COP. They could try out their tactics there, glue themselves to the pyramids maybe. Greta is not going apparently. She prefers to shout blah blah blah in Scotland as that is much safer.

Your point is what, exactly? Egypt is a violent place? So…?

DahliaRose3 · 09/11/2022 12:03

But we can make a difference, and it seems no one is listening to the experts & there is no urgency from our govs. It seems to be primarily about keeping the rich rich, and the companies ruining our planet even richer. No consequences for the damage they do. Even governments aren’t held to account - Bolsonaro for example. Damaging the Brazilian rainforest without a care.

People are annoyed by some delays from protesters, but in the grand scale of things what is more important? Earth prob won’t around in 4 years time & that’s not including the famine and horrific natural disasters to come & subsequent deaths.

Individually we can make a difference by not buying clothing from Shein for example or reducing plastic consumption for a start. Even things like disposable nappies, balloons, creating unnecessary waste (party plates, more plastic).

If we ALL (not emergency staff) just pooled together for one day demanding action from our gov & corps it would make a difference.

Sitting around makes no difference. What else could possibly be more pressing? The reason people in the U.K. aren’t that bothered is because we haven’t been affected in a big way yet. But once the shit hits the fan & is at our front doors we will have a very different outcome!

DahliaRose3 · 09/11/2022 12:04

Different view not outcome 🫣
