To wonder why everyone likes mcdonalds?

Walked past today. Very long queues. Maybe half term, but then they always seem to be busy.

What is the big attraction?

But not everyone does. I really can't remember the last time I ate anything from Macdonalds. Maybe 10+ years ago if not longer. And then it was probably a coffee.

I'm surprised at several posters saying its expensive. I'd love to know what else you could buy as a quick on the go tea for teh same sort of price except for a supermarket sandwich meal deal and even then most of them would be more expensive and less choice.

So would I. The last time I bought from McDonalds was breakfast deal with a McMuffin, hash brown and a coffee for £4.79 - my order was taken at the counter and brought to my table by a paid employee. The dining area was spotless and well lit, the food was wrapped in paper packaging and arrived on a tray with some paper napkins, none of which fall freely from the sky AFAIK).

Everything in the restaurant was at some point designed, manufactured and shipped, from the ketchup to the staff uniforms to the fridges and fryers, which also have to be powered. That's before we even get to the food itself and the coffee, which was really good. £4.79 seems like a bargain to me.

FiveGreenBottles · 26/10/2022 21:27

The miracle of McD barbecue sauce - the fries, nuggets, burger are a mere medium for this sauce.

Jalepenojello · 26/10/2022 21:27

Cheap, tastes good, quick. Even queuing at a drive through is quicker and cheaper than a sit down food place. After a full on day I can take the family to a McDonald’s drive through and feed them in 15 minutes for less than £15. No dishes, no faff.

youre being deliberately obtuse by asking why people go there, no?

fyn · 26/10/2022 21:29

@UnTrussworthy McDonald’s doesn’t use MSG in any of its foods in Britain.

SocksAndTheCity · 26/10/2022 21:10

The fries are much better at Burger King (and much worse at KFC) but I can still inhale a Big Mac meal with a 6 nugget side in a very short space of time when I get the chance. Unfortunately that isn't very often 🙁

See I love KFC fries! McDonald’s are a close 2. Burger King have never improved and are bland and meh

NippyWoowoo · 26/10/2022 21:31

'Explain to me how it is that different people like different things?'

EleanorRavenclaw · 26/10/2022 21:31

I used to enjoy the odd maccies tea but they are so overrun with bloody Deliveroo Just Eat orders etc the service and food standards have really suffered. They just don’t seem to be able to keep up with demand.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/10/2022 21:31

Now I fancy a large big mac meal.

Applesandcarrots · 26/10/2022 21:32

Birdsofafeatherflocktogether · 26/10/2022 21:23

I work at mcd’s and we get a free meal with every shift
i was once eating my burger and I suddenly went right off it-it’s been 6 years now since I last had one
my kids love it though so we still go when I’m not working-I normally get a meal deal from a supermarket on the way to work

Same! I didn't eat maccies for yeeesars after I worked there. Then I fancied it and now it's once every few months fancy at max. Atill nice when I have it.
The chicken legend was nice

But that doesn’t work with the new system, where everything is “assembled to order” & the burgers seem to sit around getting cold. The chicken tenders are usually hot, but the burgers are almost always lukewarm no matter what I ask for.

Ah l don't go often enough to know that! When l said always, l mean on the rare occasions l go! Still not a fan really

Cos' it's a slightly better option than KFC?

Don’t say such things!!!! I should report you 🤣 KFC is far superior to maccas. McDonald’s is sort of cheap and addictive. You know what you’re getting and the predictability is good for a lot of neurodiverse people etc. also they give out toys with happy meals Free Wi-Fi is a big one as well.

Loudhousefun · 26/10/2022 21:34

SlipperyLizard · 26/10/2022 20:38

I can quite enjoy a quarter pounder with cheese if it is hot, but so often these days it is lukewarm that I dread taking the DDs as I know it will be disappointing.

This, definitely. It used to taste good as it was served hot, I now cannot remember the last time I have eaten a hot meal from there! I’ve given up and stopped going

Goldmember · 26/10/2022 21:35

Salt, it's the salt. Makes everything delicious 😋

TotallyScouting · 26/10/2022 21:35

I nearly posted this exact same thread the other day. No one in our family likes them, but clearly lots do. We were musing what percentage of the population go there semi frequently. My guess is 80% by DH reckons more like 60%…

Kfc in uk is quite disappointing. Always soggy😩

sourcreampringle · 26/10/2022 21:36

I LOVE a KFC but always find the restaurants are a bit dirty and the staff are so chilled and slow service unlike McDonald’s

Iamthewombat · 26/10/2022 21:37

I assume that the OP’s question was ‘why is McDonald’s more popular than other fast food restaurants?’ and ‘what is it specifically about McDonald’s that people like so much, to the extent that they will queue out of the doors?’. So the “can’t you imagine why anyone would like McDonald’s?” responses seem a bit arsey.

I was wondering the same thing today, when walking through a food court. Some of the other options seemed much more appealing to me, and much healthier. But, I thought that parents with a budget probably wouldn’t take a punt on a lovely Japanese rice bowl thing replete with vegetables for £5.99 a pop if the kids were going to say, “I don’t like this, I’m not eating it” then look longingly at McDonald’s.

Icannoteven · 26/10/2022 21:38

Mmmm, lovely juicy, meaty, cheesy, salty goodness! Nice cold, sweet, icy drinks. Yum. It hits the spot just right.

I genuinely think that whoever invented the big Mac is a culinary genius. The balance of flavours and textures is just so perfect.

I've also found that they are very good with allergies (unlike burger king, whose staff do not even understand the info in their own allergy book 😡). Their allergy books are super comprehensive and easily available. There really aren't many fast food places that are easy to eat at when you are with an allergy sufferer!

God, I need to eat less McDonald's.

BMW6 · 26/10/2022 21:40

I much prefer Burger King. Once or twice a year I'll treat myself to a Whopper

Waveacrossabay · 26/10/2022 21:40

Because it's cheap.

Lauren1983 · 26/10/2022 21:54

1.It is fairly cheap (worth downloading the app for regular offers...especially if you have more than one email address....) and quick and convenient.

2.I hate ordering at counters in places so I use the screens and it's great as you can customise your order easily and I don't have to remember everything I want to buy and that DP needs the gherkins removed and I don't want mayo in my veggie wrap etc etc.

  1. Monopoly game. I wish they did it all year round.

Anonymouslyposting · 26/10/2022 21:57

Because it’s basically salt and fat which people are programmed to like? I love me a mcchicken sandwich…
