To wonder why everyone likes mcdonalds?

Walked past today. Very long queues. Maybe half term, but then they always seem to be busy.

What is the big attraction?

Yes. The calories are based on the post where I quoted the cost of McDonald's versus five guys, so it's for a hamburger and medium fries. I should have been clearer about that.

Ah, fair enough.

What? You don't like Maccy D's? Wow you're so not like other girls!

Per PP, it's cheap, consistent and tastes good (particularly the fries - so much better than any other fast food fry)

😂

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 27/10/2022 15:31

I had to go out for McDonalds because of this thread Grin

Big Mac and fries...mmm. All the lovely fat, salt and gherkiny yumminess..

On top of that, they seem to have higher ethical standards than most similar places - their bacon is RSPCA welfare assured, their eggs are free-range, their milk is organic, their beef is British/Irish. Sure, they're not perfect but they're a hell of a lot better than most.

TimBoothseyes · 27/10/2022 15:37

I've never had one (the smell when inside the place* is enough to put me off), but I've never wondered why others enjoy them.

*DD used to enjoy a MaccyD hence why I was in there.

onlythreenow · 27/10/2022 19:50

Some of the comments here are hilarious, and clearly come from a place of people thinking they are 'better than'. I suspect many of them don't even really know what a McDonald's burger tastes like.

Yep, these threads always attract those who like to act superior to the rest of us!

Bretonbear · 27/10/2022 20:03

Everyone doesn't like it though OP. So no need to wonder about something that isn't true.

Applesandcarrots · 27/10/2022 20:05

I have two announcements.
3.

1- I still fancy maccies so I came back here😂
2- there is adult happy meal in US!
3- since you mentioned 5guys

Because everyone else from school/work/neighbours is there, too, it's the closest we have to a communal experience and meeting place where all parts of society, rich and poor, come together.

Christ. Human interaction reduced to happening in some sort of awful, ersatz church of the sacred trans fats!

InPraiseOfBacchus · 28/10/2022 09:48

A microsecond of thought would tell you why it's popular - effective marketing and expert food engineering to make it appealing.

But... wait... is it that you're not actually confused and curious about the answer to this riddle? Could it possibly be... that you're feigning bewilderment so you can signal to others that your lifestyle is so virtuously detached from anything considered "common" that you lack the most basic understanding of it?

xogossipgirlxo · 28/10/2022 10:02

I wouldn't wait in a massive queue to get McDonalds (or wouldn't want it delivered to my house by uber eats etc.), but it's nice option when you're on the road. I like routine. Saves you disappointment 😂

I would say it guarantees disappointment, limp and insipid IMHO.

Before anyone accuses me of food snobbery, I once ate a doner kebab I had taken out of a bin.

I am a simple person🤣 works for me. Mcdonald’s isn’t something I would want for tea every day, but it’s safe option for me.

"Doner...doner..." to the tune of "Jolene"?

McDonald’s vary a lot, our local one (only one in our town) is always really clean and pleasant, the food is always quick and hot. Went to one in central London recently and it was so busy, they had masses and masses of seating upstairs but the kitchen size and staff didn’t reflect the vast amount of people sitting in, waiting downstairs, Uber drivers etc. They were completely overstretched. It took 35 minutes to get our lukewarm food. Will avoid busy London Maccys in future.

Yep, varies a lot. We have 2 drive-throughs near us, about 2 miles apart. Both owned by the same franchisee. One is really good, clean, good/quick service and usually hot/fresh food. The other is the opposite - really slow, often missing items from the order, sometimes cold/soggy food, and sometimes they don't even have the basics available - once we went and they literally had no fries! It's hard to understand how two outlets owned by the same person can have such different management in place, and even harder to understand why the managers of the poor one are still in their jobs!

YABU.I t shouldn't matter to you who likes to go to Mcdonalds or who doesn't.

SuffolkUnicorn · 28/10/2022 12:49

Don’t like it the smell from outside makes me heave same with KFC I don’t eat fast food/takeaways but DP and DC do

can’t understand how dominos charge 25.00 for a pizza same thing in supermarket much nicer and less than a fiver

liveforsummer · 28/10/2022 12:52

A supermarket pizza is nothing like a dominoes. You'd be mad to spend that much on one pizza though - there are always deals to be had.

Yes I always get them on a deal I don’t personally like them but others here do preferably collect option 9.99

InsertPunHere · 28/10/2022 13:24

Their veggie burgers taste of absolutely nothing. It's almost a skill, creating something so utterly without flavour.

McDonald's is useful as "need calories, am on motorway" scenario but it's often lukewarm, the fries aren't reliably crispy anymore and half the time they have no milkshakes or the soda machine is on the blink.

Night shift where I used to work, cleaning out the kitchen and there is a kebab in the microwave, mostly intact.

It was in a styrofoam box, I closed the lid and binned it. Half an hour later the phone rang and it was the owner, he had ordered it but didn't want it so he had left it for the night shift.

I got it out the bin, wiped it down and shared it with another member of staff.

Dunno why, because it was free? Because it had been in the bin?

But it was the best Donner I have ever eaten sober.
