Walked past today. Very long queues. Maybe half term, but then they always seem to be busy.

What is the big attraction?

For me it is a cheap place to meet up with other parents and their kids.

My son has a cheeseburger customised so that it ends up being a roll and cheese (everything removed except the bun and the cheese). It is great you can customise the menu items for people like my son.

And I really like the veggie wrap and the coffee. I can't afford to meet up in fancy places often.

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/10/2022 21:02

Sausage and egg Mcmuffin whenever we go on holiday! (So 2/3 a year). I never go otherwise but if someone likes it, what's the problem

AllyCatTown · 26/10/2022 21:04

It’s got the reputation of being cheap but I hadn’t been in a while and was surprised that it cost as much, but I guess there’s an increase everywhere but your average cafe meal isn’t more expensive. At least that’s my experience.

Dippydonky · 26/10/2022 21:04

@SlipperyLizard - I ask for extra gherkin’s so they need to cook it fresh, then it’s warm!

@ladyofshertonabbas Love love love gherkins!

Luxurysleuth007 · 26/10/2022 21:04

Their fries have gone shocking, barely any crisp to them

Milkshake machines never seem to work

The burgers are very very average

The restaurants are chaotic overstimulating dirty hell holes

The bun bread tastes plasticky and sweet

Sausage and Egg McMuffins are the only redeeming feature for me

Twoducksonthewindow · 26/10/2022 21:05

It's a " treat" 😂

Mol1628 · 26/10/2022 21:06

Good bland food for when travelling. Quick and cheap enough at service stations. Doesn’t make kids car sick.

Occasionally we have it when we are unwell at home but usually when travelling.

Its definitely cheap compared to most other fast food places.

SlipperyLizard · 26/10/2022 21:06

Soproudoflionesses · 26/10/2022 20:47

Ask for it without gherkin and they do you a fresh one.
I always do this.

But that doesn’t work with the new system, where everything is “assembled to order” & the burgers seem to sit around getting cold. The chicken tenders are usually hot, but the burgers are almost always lukewarm no matter what I ask for.

liveforsummer · 26/10/2022 21:07

For us it's because it's so handy and cheap. We order happy meals and pound saver stuff and add salad cucumber etc which is free on nights when we are hungry and tired and it's late. For friends it's super helpful- those with diabetes and allergies as the NI and ingredients is so uniform and transparent. Would never order delivery though - absolutely has to be enjoyed hot so understand the queues on that point too

HarlanPepper · 26/10/2022 21:07

@Luxurysleuth007 I agree about the fries! I had some the other day and they were all pale and flabby.

MadameDe · 26/10/2022 21:07

Sometimes when life feels really bad, proper junk food is the answer. I've just had a really healthy dinner though and this thread is making me hungry.

Mentalpiece · 26/10/2022 21:07

It's cheap, cheerful and just the thing on a long drive, especially in the middle of the night or when you've just got off the ferry at Dover late at night.

randomsabreuse · 26/10/2022 21:08

Least overpriced quick meal when travelling. BK is much more expensive and varies by location which Maccy Ds doesn't.

Reliably has food available unlike supermarket sandwich deals if it's an odd time. I often check out the sandwich options at a services and then get a Maccy Ds for less...

Salt cravings after exercise...

SocksAndTheCity · 26/10/2022 21:10

The fries are much better at Burger King (and much worse at KFC) but I can still inhale a Big Mac meal with a 6 nugget side in a very short space of time when I get the chance. Unfortunately that isn't very often 🙁

FlirtyMelons · 26/10/2022 21:13

Cheap and McFlurries

Beees · 26/10/2022 21:15

I'm surprised at several posters saying its expensive. I'd love to know what else you could buy as a quick on the go tea for teh same sort of price except for a supermarket sandwich meal deal and even then most of them would be more expensive and less choice.

Whynobreadpudding · 26/10/2022 21:15

The coffee and fries.

HailAdrian · 26/10/2022 21:16

Are you teeny tiny OP?

GyozaGuiting · 26/10/2022 21:18

@UnTrussworthy there’s MSG in McDonald’s?!

TheOrigRights · 26/10/2022 21:18

Salt, fat and a free toy.

gogohmm · 26/10/2022 21:19

Tasty, reasonable prices, predictable

Badgirlriri · 26/10/2022 21:19

Because it’s delicious.

Lovemusic33 · 26/10/2022 21:19

I’m not that keen on it but it’s fast and cheap so it’s pretty handy if we are on our way/way back from somewhere and we need a quick lunch.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 26/10/2022 21:21

It's high fat food which is utterly delicious and addictive.
It's why AFRID/food sensitive children crave it.
Fried fat , apparently, does something to the brain which makes these foods addictive to the extent that foods like vegetables and rice are repulsed.

Birdsofafeatherflocktogether · 26/10/2022 21:23

I work at mcd’s and we get a free meal with every shift
i was once eating my burger and I suddenly went right off it-it’s been 6 years now since I last had one
my kids love it though so we still go when I’m not working-I normally get a meal deal from a supermarket on the way to work
