Walked past today. Very long queues. Maybe half term, but then they always seem to be busy.

What is the big attraction?

to all the people saying its cheap - really ??? I dont go often but always think , "God, I could buy a piece of beef and all the trimmings for a roast dinner for that price" - I think its really expensive for the shit quality , luke warm food you get

You do you hun! I can’t really cook a roast in my car driving across France or at 8pm when I’m driving home from work and can’t be arsed cooking - 3 separate meals for one veggie one dairy free and one who only eats chicken!

honestly we all know it’s not Uber healthy food - but it’s convenient and relatively cheap

I'm in NE England.

@FarmerRefuted

ah, you get all the good stuff!

my family is from the NE, I'm now in the SE.

Imagine if you could though? Travel size Instant Pot plugged into the cigarette lighter, dad's hand reaching around into the backseat for a chicken leg instead of a Murray Mint, wiping down the inside of the windscreen after you've vented the pot.

I'm going to take the DC for lunch today, the thread put the idea in my head. It'll be absolutely feral with it being the holidays and probably freezing because the soft play bit is in a sort of conservatory but I need some nuggets now.

It still does parties too, you get an hour in the softplay and a Happy Meal and a balloon per child.

I'd rather eat nothing. 😬

I am sure you would change your stance if you were starving and needed a meal.

Applesandcarrots · 27/10/2022 11:04

I need to hode this thread because I haven't had maccies for like 6 months and this is making me want it so much, but I can't 😂
Willpower is wearing thin here.

Goo luck everyone😂

I work at mcd’s and we get a free meal with every shift
i was once eating my burger and I suddenly went right off it-it’s been 6 years now since I last had one
my kids love it though so we still go when I’m not working-I normally get a meal deal from a supermarket on the way to work

Yeah you do go off it having it every day. Luckily I do only part time hours. Soon be back from maternity leave. I have barely had one recently. Love the mcmuffins though. Always hope for an early shift. 😂

Compared to other cafes/restaurants/takeaways etc., yes it's cheap.

Compared to buying the ingredients, preparing and cooking yourself, then, yes, it's more expensive.

I temember the first day they reopened after lockdown there were massive queues at the local drive thru, spilling out onto the road and causing traffic problems.

I can't understand adults doing that just for burgers and chips.

Well, at that moment in time, nothing else was open (McDs were one of the first to re-open in the first lockdown) and cafes/restaurants weren't allowed to open, so if you wanted to "eat out" somewhere, then in a lot of places, it was McDs or nothing!

Kazzyhoward · 27/10/2022 11:24

balalake · 27/10/2022 07:06

Cheap (at the point of purchase, not the costs to the NHS) and often limited alternatives in an area.

I avoid myself.

Aren't most "takeaways" and "fast food" bad for the NHS?

Florenz · 27/10/2022 11:25

McDonalds has got a lot more expensive in recent years. Last time I went a single extra value meal was about £7. I remember them being priced at £2.88 for many years, and that wasn't that long ago.

ShinyS1 · 27/10/2022 11:25

My favourite junk food, so tasty. I ration it to once a month cos I get's pricey as there's 4 of us.

Kazzyhoward · 27/10/2022 11:26

PurplePixies · 27/10/2022 07:58

I don’t like McD’s and I won’t eat Cadburys chocolate either as that tastes horribly greasy from the addition of palm oil. 🤮

These days I tend to buy Aldi or Lidl brand chocolate. The ones sold in Ireland don’t contain palm oil but I don’t know if the bars sold in the U.K. do?

Unfortunately, Brexit means that the UK’s food will become more like the mass produced crap sold in the USA with unnecessary additives, cheap ingredients and much lower standards and that will lead to an increase in obesity and gut related illnesses. ☹️

Well being in the EU certainly didn't prevent huge numbers of people in the UK from being obese did it?

Precisely! Football (injuries) is bad for the NHS. Driving (accidents) is bad for the NHS. Parties (transfer of colds, possible food poisoning) is bad for the NHS.
Housework (slipping on a wet floor) is bad for the NHS.

Large bigmac meal currently £5.29
Normal sized bigmac meal currently £4.69

Not bad compared to a cold supermarket "meal deal" for £3.50/£4.00 where you get a soggy sandwich, cheap bag of crisps and can of coke!

How strange, just checked my app and a medium big Mac meal is 5.39 for me not 4.69, do prices vary?

FarmerRefuted · 27/10/2022 12:35

McDonalds are franchises and every franchisee is allowed to set their own prices based on local markets.

Happy Meal at my nearest McDonalds in £2.49 but if I go into the nearest city centre its £3.29 because that's owned by a different franchisee and can charge more due to the prime location.

Yes, I've just randomly changed location on the app, and the medium Big Mac meal ranges from £4.69 to £5.69 depending on location. Not surprising really given the regional variations in wealth between run down/deprived areas and the more affluent City/Southern areas.

DeadbeatYoda · 27/10/2022 14:03

Stopped eating Mac Donald's on principal thirty years ago so none of my children had it as children ( except if they were out at a friend's party or something). They're all teens now and don't like it. Five guys though... they all seem to like that.

NumptiesIncorporated · 27/10/2022 14:30

People that think McDonald's isn't cheap clearly haven't been to Five Guys!

At McDonald's you can get a hamburger and medium fries for under £2.40.

At five guys the little hamburger and little fries is £8.50.

Some of the comments here are hilarious, and clearly come from a place of people thinking they are 'better than'. I suspect many of them don't even really know what a McDonald's burger tastes like.

To be fair, they are so small these days, I'm not always entirely sure what they taste like even after eating one.

Or is it me that's got bigger?

It's just shy of 600 calories, so plenty for a lunch imo. Maybe you are still suffering the after effects of COVID 😉

uh. A hamburger is 250 cal, a McChicken is 370 cal, a Fillet-o-fish (my usual) is 319 cals.

Are you counting the fries as well?

Yes. The calories are based on the post where I quoted the cost of McDonald's versus five guys, so it's for a hamburger and medium fries. I should have been clearer about that.
