Wouldn’t it be great if we could all settle the fuck down now

…and give this government a chance to sort out this huge bastard mess

We are where we are. Nothing can change it. We are not having a general election for at least 2 years. Yes, there have been some monumental fuck ups whipped up by the media so that we don’t know our arse from our elbow

It’s a sound bite, yes but it’s true that what we need now is stability

I am not a Tory by nature. I have been appalled by many things over the last few months and years.

We are on our knees is so many ways. Constant agitation and chaos just prolongs it. There is no credible opposition in my view.

I’ll be very happy if I don’t hear Graham bloody Brady’s name again for a few years.

They've had 12 years to sort any and all bastard messes.

Absolutely!

Which conservative front benchers have stated that male rapists who identify as woman belong in womens prisons or that any women who want to deny males access to their spaces are ‘dinosaurs.’?

Monumental fuck ups don't need 'whipping up' by the media. They are monumental; they stand alone. All created by recent government shenanigans.

Puppers · 24/10/2022 19:23

The UK public are way too passive. We might moan a bit but essentially we do just sit back and "settle down" and let the elite trample all over us. I don't think more "settling down" is going to suddenly encourage them to act in the interests of the vast majority of us.

As for "agitation and chaos"; the agitation is a very natural reaction from a public who are staring down the barrel of going hungry, being cold, losing their homes, losing their jobs. And the chaos is entirely the doing of the Tories.

So no, I don't think it would be "great" if we could all just quietly let them have yet another bash at things, knowing full well that their aims simply don't and never will align with the interests of most of us.

What a completely and utterly delusional statement.

No, these fuck ups have not been whipped up by the media. They have been downplayed, if anything.

It’s so much easier to blame the media isn’t it

Echobelly · 24/10/2022 19:24

I'm in the 'Sunak least worst option' camp. Tories will get a lift because he was probably the most reassuring possibility for the public, not that that's saying much, but it'll be a slide downhill until the election. He isn't stupid and embarrassing on the international stage like Truss or a sociopath and embarrassing on the international stage like Johnson, though he's comparatively inexperienced politically. Despite his immense wealth he shows some signs of being able to at least read the room and isn't a knee-jerk rightist, though he may too easily cave to them.

I'm vaguely hoping the last few months have shown the Tories that 'populism' isn't actually that popular with the public. That most people don't care all that much about 'wokeness' one way or another. And I think most people have, contrary to expectations of 'every man for himself' in a crisis (which the RW would have played on), actually mostly shown quite a lot of empathy for others, with people recognising how many others are having a tougher time that they are.

PotentiallyPolly · 24/10/2022 19:24

I’m not a Tory fan at all but I’m pretty relieved to have RS as the new PM. He in the very least does know how to present a calm and focused front. No hyperbole, no drama, no making decisions he doesn’t know the consequences of (though whether or not he makes good decisions is yet to be seen, he does in the very least know what will happen to the economy and people when he implements his policies etc).

Mental health issues are on the rise, specifically anxiety, and I think it has a lot to do with the chaos in the world over the last few years and the sheer drama of those in charge. It’s enough to keep anyone on edge. Though ofc you can’t access any help for your anxiety on the NHS and it’s getting even worse thanks to the torys so could we maybe vote them out the next GE please…

Dogtooth · 24/10/2022 19:25

Fuck that. I'm tired of being on a bus that keeps being driven into a wall by a series of different drivers.

Nothing is going to settle down this winter, we'll see home repossessions and evictions, deaths due to cold and hunger, maybe four day weeks or energy rationing.

You can blame Putin but the Tories are pumped full of oligarch money. You can blame the weather but the Tories are fiddling around on climate change. You can blame global recession but the Tories deliberately put up barriers to trade with our main trading partner.

People need to seriously lay off the Tories. They're trying their best.

I wouldn't be that surprised if he loses his seat next time round. 2024 might be the last time we hear his name.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 24/10/2022 17:41

No.

I'm not going to fucking calm down 😡

Most of the cabinet and recent PMs should be in prison for what they've done to thos country.

Lies, fabrications, nepotism, fraud, sexual abuse, misogyny, xenophobia, racism...it goes on.

Why isn't Kwasi Kwarteng being investigated for tipping off hospital hedge fund manager mates about his disastrous budget plans?

They all made a pretty penny! Shorting the pound is tory policy these days...

I'll stay fucking livid, thanks.

@User135644 unfortunately their best is an utter failure and nowhere near good enough to govern a country. People have every right to vent their frustrations, whether or not you agree with them.

I still want to know what we are now meant to be not doing in the name of settling down.

Talking about it?

'Cos that's all we ever do in this country. It's not like we're rioting in the streets and wheeling out the guillotines is it?

Perhaps we should be!

We have to get behind what we have

Erm, I beg to fucking differ!!

Why would I have to get behind what we have?

The tories have proven themselves to be self serving, greedy lying, twats and I will never get behind them.

The damage is already done, labour can't fix this. The people squawking for never ending lockdowns caused this. The boe has printed too much money , the government have borrowed to pay for the lockdowns , now they have to pay it back in the form of higher interest rates.

Calmdown14 · 24/10/2022 19:33

If you actually want to see a labour government the best strategy is to leave it until at least May.

The situation with unions at the moment would sink labour. Better to let the conservatives take the flak, let the markets and other things settle down.

Liz Truss demonstrated very well how you can want certain policies but unless you are prepared to let pension funds collapse the situation has to be right and the market will only tolerate so much.

I like Kier Starmer but his own house is far from in order. Better he concentrates on unifying labour than fighting an election just yet

There is a demonstration to call for a general election on 5 November, anyone who can make it to London.

Scautish · 24/10/2022 19:35

Who are you to tell us to “settle down”? Just because you’re a “known name” with lots of MN fan girls doesn’t mean you get to speak to us Like we are a noisy assembly of school kids that need to be shushed at.

I’m fucking furious that this shambolic government are asking us to trust them yet again after they have treated us with utter contempt.

bring on Kier Starmer - and bollocks to the “don’t trust labour” bullshit. That’s just the mantra of a Tory voter who is clutching at straws as to why their pathetic party should remain in power.

absolutely FUCK THAT. I’m raging and will continue to be so until we these fucking twats are out.

Hawkins001 · 24/10/2022 19:35

The main issue is we are human, and one of the points is, everyone seems or most seem to think they know how to achieve x.
