Wouldn’t it be great if we could all settle the fuck down now

…and give this government a chance to sort out this huge bastard mess

We are where we are. Nothing can change it. We are not having a general election for at least 2 years. Yes, there have been some monumental fuck ups whipped up by the media so that we don’t know our arse from our elbow

It’s a sound bite, yes but it’s true that what we need now is stability

I am not a Tory by nature. I have been appalled by many things over the last few months and years.

We are on our knees is so many ways. Constant agitation and chaos just prolongs it. There is no credible opposition in my view.

Fuck no, I am furious and will continue to be so.

This. All day long. The anger Johnson and Truss have stirred up will continue for a long, long time. The damage the pair of them have done is irreparable.

My concern is that most people of got the attention span of a friggin goldfish these days I’m actually in two years time this will have all been forgotten. if they manage to dig their way out of this shambles, which they might even a broken clock is right twice a day, they’ll get re-elected.

AnyFucker · 24/10/2022 17:36

Don’t get me wrong. I am angry, so very angry. Truss was a monumental mistake that has cost the country greatly. It started with Brexit and has gone downhill since. I voted to remain and I am incandescent at how it has fucked us up.

Then Covid, don’t get me started on that but no government could have got that right.

Energy crisis. Climate change.

Now a global downturn and we have handled it appallingly so far.

Give us all a chance, I say. We have to get behind what we have.

RoomOfRequirement · 24/10/2022 17:37

The opposition is infinitely more 'credible' than this shambles. I'm so sick of that soundbite.

The Tories have had too many chances and fucked up too many times. The sooner the self serving twats are out of power the better.

Absolutely this. The suggestion that we, the public, let them have yet another go is like letting your child continue to misbehave because it’s just too much effort to intervene.

CuriousCatfish · 24/10/2022 17:39

Not a chance I will get behind Rishi Rich.

MarshaBradyo · 24/10/2022 17:39

One thing in Sunak’s favour is the markets have responded well. It’s been full on but revised interest rates are now feeding through and pound up.

I get people want a GE, I’d go for stability if he can do it - which according to markets they think he can atm

Agree. It's worrying that anything will be an improvement so by default Rishi will do well.

1dayatatime · 24/10/2022 17:39

Regardless of who is PM, Sunak, Starmer or Larry the cat there is piss all chance of stability.

Governments around the world and the UK in particular have clocked up massive debt on Covid spending, rising inflation is now making servicing those debts harder and harder, Brexit is by no means over plus there's a war in Europe with the potential to go nuclear.

So by all means calm the fuck down down if you like but there is bugger all chance of stability.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 24/10/2022 17:41

No.

I'm not going to fucking calm down 😡

Most of the cabinet and recent PMs should be in prison for what they've done to thos country.

Lies, fabrications, nepotism, fraud, sexual abuse, misogyny, xenophobia, racism...it goes on.

Why isn't Kwasi Kwarteng being investigated for tipping off hospital hedge fund manager mates about his disastrous budget plans?

They all made a pretty penny! Shorting the pound is tory policy these days...

I'll stay fucking livid, thanks.

There's a very credible opposition. People want and should be entitled to a general election, and I don't think things will settle down till after that. So much uncertainty, problems, Brexit, culture wars, etc was the entire fault of the Tories. We need a vote after covid and the partygate.

his not hospital

Bloody autocorrect 🙄

balalake · 24/10/2022 17:43

It will be a lot less unstable than if it had been Boris Johnson, but there will still be a lot of instability, the result mainly of Tory actions.

Please do not forget what has happened when you finally get a vote.

This thread proves it 🙄we need to 'give them another chance' and 'nothing will change so let's move on'. The British public gets what they deserve, I give up.

HiveBee · 24/10/2022 17:44

Already my parents are coming out with the classic lines …. you can’t stay all wound up forever you’ll give yourself high blood pressure.

let the man try and do his job.

he was very nice to the poor people during Covid.

And he was extremely good to my parents with taxpayers money, to the tune of nearly £100,000
at the end of the day everyone makes mistakes re his penalty notice.

it’s absolute bollocks, the Tories know that if they can hang on now I’m prevent a general election they’ll be just fine.

Sistanotcista · 24/10/2022 17:45

Notonthestairs · 24/10/2022 17:35

I don't like the suggestion that we need to settle down as if this is the public fault.

Stable government stems from stable & united political parties.

I'm not taking responsibility for the divisions within the Conservatives.

Beautifully put!

OP, I agree that we need stability. But as the Tories haven’t managed that in 12 years, there’s no reason to suppose they will find unity and stability now.

Exasperatednow · 24/10/2022 17:45

Tye are systemically unstable and they've sacrificed the country over and over again to shore up their party. They will continue doing that because nothing has really changed.

They need some time in opposition to have time to sort themselves out without affecting the country.

Readaboutyourself · 24/10/2022 17:46

A chance 😂

12 years. It’s time we all got our ducks in a row and LTB.

Googlecanthelpme · 24/10/2022 17:46

No we shouldn’t settle down and let this shit show continue (they might “resolve”‘ one or two issues but they will just create new ones).
We should be rioting in the streets over the fact that in 2022 in Britain we have people starving and living in poverty, schools on their knees, bankrupt councils, people living in pain and misery not to merino dying prematurely because of NHS failures.
And all the while, people like Liz and Rishi get richer, their friends get richer and their companies bring home record profits.

if you think they will do anything to “sort the mess” - which they created then you are seriously, worryingly deluded. However you’re probably in luck, because we live in a conformist culture, so we will probably will just be quiet and behaved and well, bend over time and time again 🤷‍♀️

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2022 17:47

I don't think they deserve another chance, but i am agreeing that we need a bit of calm now
They aren't going to call an election
It is what it is and although I agree with the likes of Emily Thornbury and others , it isn't going to happen for a while

WatchoRulo · 24/10/2022 17:48

Yeah- I’ve come full circle on this and inclined to agree with you @AnyFucker. I like KS. I think he’s a decent man. I don’t think he has control of the party and labour is too broad a church to be effective IMO. They get in, they’ll tear themselves apart in weeks. By contrast I’m not a massive Rishi fan especially over the whole non dom thing, but I think he’s a pragmatist rather than driven by ideology and I can live with it.

I agree. I’m not a Tory voter but I quite like Sunak, I think he’ll make a decent PM. I want to see a good centre-Left party but I don’t think the current set up meets that. And I trust the Tories over Labour regarding women’s rights.
