…and give this government a chance to sort out this huge bastard mess

We are where we are. Nothing can change it. We are not having a general election for at least 2 years. Yes, there have been some monumental fuck ups whipped up by the media so that we don’t know our arse from our elbow

It’s a sound bite, yes but it’s true that what we need now is stability

I am not a Tory by nature. I have been appalled by many things over the last few months and years.

We are on our knees is so many ways. Constant agitation and chaos just prolongs it. There is no credible opposition in my view.

I like his initial speech but I wasn't happy with his spend thrifting when he was chancellor. He was right to warn us , it will be very painful. Liz Truss seemed to think she could magic the pain away. I want somebody honest to tell the public what a mess the UK is in.

No they can't afford to bail your mortgage out or energy rates.

Happylittlethoughts · 24/10/2022 19:00

We? We are not tye ones who need to settle down! I hope there is unrest, strikes and social agitation. Fecking evil party of rich supremacists. God help us !

Oh yeah, if you consider you can do nothing that is exactly what you will get.

General Election will be announced in 24 hours from now.

Bets on.

There's no way that's going to happen. Even assuming some degree of new PM poll bounce, the Tories would still lose badly. They know this, so it would require them to vote for their own annihilation. Obviously they won't do that. They'll want to at least try Sunak first.

Why?

Around 200 MPs backed him and the party still has a majority

What happens to get to a GE

FayeGovan · 24/10/2022 19:03

No i totally disagree. Its utterly appalling we have to get behind them now. We need a general election, nothing else is acceptable in a decent society. Which the tories have decimated.

Upwiththelark76 · 24/10/2022 19:03

Really ? Settle down ? It hasn’t even started. The people of this country are so fed
up .Fuel poverty. Hungry kids .Strikes . I just hope families can hang on two more years and then get the self serving twats out .

Scepticalwotsits · 24/10/2022 19:06

If the Tory’s had balls they would call a GE get evicerated, but then pin all of this back on labour, in 4/5 years time we thebpublic would probably lap up that argument, and bite them back in.

It's coming even if Labour are in power because the government printed nearly a trillion quid !!!! There's no fixing that quickly it's going to be very painful.

A week (let alone twenty four hours) is a long time in politics kid.

Just you wait.

General Election will be called in twenty four hours.

Yep plus they will struggle to say no to funding it all - but no extra money unless through tax, which might seem good but not for a recession

Labour in over winter could be good for their opposition

DonnaBanana · 24/10/2022 19:12

I don’t know about stability but Rishi gives me the right fanny gallops!

Chippy1234 · 24/10/2022 19:13

Fgs. There will NOT be a GE announced within 24 hrs so for goodness sake stop with that nonsense.

24 hours- don’t be ridiculous. You sound like you have been on the lemonade…..

lannistunut · 24/10/2022 19:14

I accept I am powerless to do anything to get a GE but no fucking way am going to sit quietly not criticising the cunts who have been in charge for twelve years - every service in my area is broken and it is the Tories' fault, it was their deliberate choice to break everything.

Hadjab · 24/10/2022 19:14

They've had 12 years to sort any and all bastard messes.

We don't need to settle down the Tory party need to, they have caused all the trouble.

The Tories have to all fall out, there's a vote of no confidence and then the party are unable to form a majority in the HoC to govern.

In theory we could go through the whole process of the last few days several times. As long as they are able to unite behind one candidate repeatedly they don't have to call a GE.

In practice each time they do it, they destroy their party for the long term even more.

What a completely and utterly delusional statement.

No, these fuck ups have not been whipped up by the media. They have been downplayed, if anything.

Worriedddd · 24/10/2022 19:20

It doesn't matter who or what party it is in power. The economy looks very bleak on a global scale , many economies printed money during COVID. You can't print excessive amounts of money and expect there to be no inflation there's also a war ongoing. Things are going to be painful no government can save that from happening so buckle up. At least Rishi is being somewhat honest in his speech unlike Truss.

Braverman needs dumping right out. Along with Coffey.

This

CapMarvel · 24/10/2022 19:21

No.

Fuck that.

This is a mess entirely of the tories making and should we fuck allow them to get away with it.
