Very rude encounter with David Jason - shattered all my thoughts about him.
Rowan Atkinson was a fellow school parent and always happy to be approached, although I agree seemingly shy.
I always have to highlight Nicky Chapman (hardly A list), who was extremely unpleasant in Bicester Village and Nick Knowles similarly arrogant in Cirencester.
My major surprise was Jonathan Ross. I thought he might be a bit brash but, at hotel with him, his wife and his three offspring, they were charm personified.

Elton John was incredibly rude. We had tickets to a show and was asked to move so him and his entourage could sit in our seats as they were private ones out the way. We said yes and were excited to see it was for Elton but he didn’t acknowledge us, say thank you or anything, he just gave us dirty looks and sat down. His husband however couldn’t say thank you enough and was so nice.

This was 20 ish years ago when I was skinnier and was at uni, but Tim Westwood was DJing a special event and although I wasn’t a fan it was a night out and I went to watch him perform in a fairly tiny dress.

He marched in to the dark room in sunglasses and a huge puffer jacket with two huge bouncers on either side. He stoped and told me some crass things and basically he would shag me back stage 🤢 I wanted to slap him but I didn’t want to get thrown out so I told him to fuck off and walked away.

He obviously doesn’t have a good rep so I’m sure that I haven’t shocked anyone with this.

Met Tim Westwood when he was djing at a local club. He was really rude and inappropriate towards women and demanded me and my friend fetch him a beer! We laughed and walked off!

Oh that’s a shame, I met Nick Knowles once and he was so lovely. It was when I was at college doing a tour of the BBC studios and we bumped into him and he spoke to our group for ages and was so nice and polite.

Lowering the tone a bit, worst person I’ve met is Mr Tumble. Totally ignored my daughter who has Down Syndrome who ran up to him, he was filming in a Special Needs School.

Mr Tumble was a bellend at CBeebies Live, we’d queued with the DC for over an hour to meet him and he just got up and walked away when there were only the last ten people left in the queue. He could have just nipped down to see us and explain/greet the kids. Tit.

Sodullincomparison · 23/10/2022 16:08

Justin Fletcher ( Mr Tumble) was horrible both times I’ve met him.

DH had a different experience with Simon Pegg- said he was really affable and they chatted about BBQs.

Worse person I’ve worked with is Tony Blair- really dismissive of anybody he doesn’t think has decision making control and all about the money!

Too many years ago, in the 1970s I worked in Sainsburys in Golders Green. We used to close at 4.00pm every Saturday. Virtually every week. TBs FIL (may have been future FIL back then) actor Tony Booth used to turn up after we had closed, having had a few drinks, and bang on the door demanding we let him in to buy some fags. We had a fiery Northern Irish checkout supervisor, who would never let him in, and a slagging match between the 2 ensued. He was obnoxious.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 23/10/2022 18:51

Utterly pointless thread. Try Reddit for stuff like this.

"Well, someone I once knew said someone they knew said that someone was..."

purpleypinkwitch · 23/10/2022 18:53

Kate Moss lovely. Dom Joly horrid.

Remainiac · 23/10/2022 18:59

Anne Robinson is her authentic self - utter cow on and off duty.
Tony Robinson (no relation) was horrid to my DS who had queued for ages to get his autograph at a book signing - really horrid. Came across as a grubby, crabby old man who hates children.
The Jeremys Vine and Paxman both lovely, both tall.

Friendofdennis · 23/10/2022 19:00

I have met lots of famous people through my career. Often the celebs themselves were nice but their publicists/agents were vile. I was assaulted by the publicist of a famous author who literally stabbed me in the back with her pen to try to get me to stop an interview

DailyMaui · 23/10/2022 19:03

I came across John McCrirrick once. His behaviour - even for him - was shockingly awful. A thoroughly unpleasant man, and holds top place in my 'worst celebrities I've met' list.

I have worked with so many celebrities. There are only three who were horrendous beyond belief...

  1. John McCrirrick basically assaulted me in the back of a cab on the way to a shoot. I complained to my then boss who refused to have him on the show again.
  2. Marti Pellow - no idea why he was so vile to me. He was actually aggressive as if he was a pissed up bloke in a pub spoiling for a fight. I was just briefing him for an appearance too!
  3. Jimmy Savile - I had to look after him when I was a young researcher and he grabbed my hand and licked my arm from wrist to elbow. Makes me feel sick just thinking about it. He also nicked everything that wasn't nailed down in his dressing room.

Most celebs are lovely. Some are dull and uninterested/uninteresting but I can forgive that in a way. Rather have boring than vile. My favourites: Olly Murs remembers everyone and gives big hugs, Joss Stone is one of the friendliest, most fun people I have every worked with, Ben Shepherd is the nicest man on telly, every single TV chef I've worked with has been adorable, especially Dean Edwards who does not have a bad bone in his body. Tony Curtis was possibly my favourite of all time as he was such a Hollywood legend and he drew a Christmas card for my Grandparents! Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Samuel L Jackson, Daniel Craig...all fab. The nasty ones are in the minority really.

Kidsx6 · 23/10/2022 19:05

Heather Small - Arrogant, stroppy and downright rude. Refused to meet fans with backstage passes, including kids because something happened to her mic during the concert. The rest of the band were lovely and furious with her.

Paul Gascoigne - Groped the mother of a disabled fan who was so happy to meet him.

Martin Shaw - Filming on location where I worked. So condescending and degrading to staff that the estate manager refused to let them come back

FuckingHell123 · 23/10/2022 19:15

Absolutely REPULSIVE. Never has anyone had such a fitting surname. The stuff of nightmares this one.

YouOKHun · 23/10/2022 19:18

@Kidsx6 shocked about Martin Shaw as he’s the parent of one of my friends and always lovely. I’ve got a few thespie friends who have enjoyed working with him and usually the behind scenes staff seem to like him too.

Well Richard Attenborough was president of the RA so would make more sense it being him than David as a previous poster said. Although he died in 2014 so must be an old story.

With all the DH I was assuming the poster had mixed up David Attenborough and David Hockney which would make sense as he's known to be very grumpy. And would be more likely to be at the Royal Academy - also David Attenborough hasn't had a 'partner' since his wife died in 1997 whereas David Hockney is gay and has a long-time partner.

Why was his surname fitting?

Runmybathforme · 23/10/2022 19:19

I think OP's story must be about David's brother , Richard.

Myunclesmustache · 23/10/2022 19:24

My husband and I met David Bellamy at a garden centre promotion.

He was a charming chap and very knowledgeable.

impressivelycunty · 23/10/2022 19:27

To the poster saying the PR was vile, trust me when i say that vile celebs hide behind their (usually perfectly nice) PRs and make out they're the cunts, while behaving impeccably in public themselves then berating the poor PR. I worked for a very high profile celeb who had form for this. Still does it now. And for the Mr Tumble haters, do not google mr tumble car exhaust. Definitely do not.

So the "have a go at Meghan M" brigade take over the thread. Just a matter of time, I guess.

There’s been one post

I feel exactly the same. 😄

jennakong · 23/10/2022 19:41

Brother was also in the forces with Andrew. As other posters have observed, was regarded as a pompous twat and his nickname was 'Pinhead'. It was widely accepted that the lift did not go to the top floor.

Princess Anne on the other hand was very highly regarded in the services, and the Queen and Charles respected.

Bobby80 · 23/10/2022 19:46

I felt the need to add balance to the earlier David Attenborough story!

I met him in Glasgow and he couldn’t have been nicer. He was walking down one of the main shopping streets, I stopped him and gushed about how wonderful I thought he was. Then I remembered his book has just launched so asked if he wasn’t in a hurry would he be able to wait 5 mins so I could buy a copy for him to sign (we were across from Waterstones). He laughed and said that was no problem, waited for me, signed my book and wished me well. Couldn’t have been nicer. A true gentlemen.
