Bob Mortimer is LOVELY. And Jack Dee is really nice.

DoubleDinnurs · 23/10/2022 17:24

Haven't really met anyone famous, but two of my friends met Andrew Lloyd Webber and Charlene Spiteri and said ALW very rude and arrogant and CS very bitchy and openly taking the piss out of them quite openly with her friends.

Having said that I consider myself polite, but we have all had our moments. I tend to look for repeating names on here rather than one off stories.

Gunner1510 · 23/10/2022 17:27

@Dashel absolutely awful, sorry you experienced this. Never met the bloke but I have never liked him in terms of how he comes across, speaks etc. Did you see the recent-ish documentary about him from the young women who suffered at his hands? I think it was a BBC one from earlier this year. Disgusting bloke and hope he gets what he deserves.

GyozaGuiting · 23/10/2022 17:31

Andy Day (from Andy’s dinosaur adventures) is absolutely lovely. I saw him on holiday with his family and loads of people were stopping him, he had a smile for everyone.

Matthew Perry from friends was lovely, bumped into him in London.

Hank Azaria (David the science guy from friends and he did the simpsons voices too) one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, super friendly and time for everyone.

Prince William worked with DH and he was very well thought of, didn’t take himself seriously and joined in with taking the piss out of himself.

Prince Andrew was full of himself in the Navy and generally hated.

Someone I used to be friends with was at an event with a friend who'd broken their leg. Dermot was there, and broken leg woman was a big fan. She hobbled over on crutches to ask for his autograph and apparently he just blanked her, got up and walked away.

Well that's my fountain well and truly peed on.
What a shame

ScruffMuffin · 23/10/2022 17:46

I was once waiting patiently in a queue at university, and Peter Phillips breezily cut in front of me.

Zeeza · 23/10/2022 17:05

Oh no! That's disappointing. Why was she so bad?

I have had always had totally positive experience of the Princess, she’s always been friendly and approachable. Her husband also.
Have met them both on and off duty.

@Gunner1510 i did see the documentary and as you can imagine I wasn’t shocked by it. He seemed so confident that I would be honoured by him and even being young and pretty naive I remember thinking that this wouldn’t have been the first time he had done something like that nor the last.

Thankfully it was all very public.

Zeeza · 23/10/2022 17:51

Oh good. I hate it when I have misjudged people.

There's another thread running about celebrities, there are multiple posts about how lovely David Attenborough is. The one in this thread about him at the RA is a case of wrong celebrity surely.

I came across John McCrirrick once. His behaviour - even for him - was shockingly awful. A thoroughly unpleasant man, and holds top place in my 'worst celebrities I've met' list.

He's a vile man even on the telly, so I guess doesn't hide much - 🤢🤮

Rowan Atkinson... I met him at the stage door after seeing him play Fagin in Oliver. He was very unfriendly. I've heard similar stories from other people. There was an arrogance about him.

On the flip side, Graham Norton is one of the nicest I've met. He was very friendly and unassuming.

I’ve met RA a number of times in different environments/contexts. He is very reserved but polite. He’s not a big hit with people who approach him as he really isn’t keen on the celeb thing. I’ve never found him arrogant. I think it must be tricky when you’re known for comedy and you’re actually a serious person, people have expectations of you based on your public persona and will judge you in an instant if you don’t match up to the idea they have formed about you. There are upsides to fame but this is a huge downside.

dontputitthere · 23/10/2022 17:55

I have a weird feeling about Dermot. He's never felt entirely 'real'. He's never been out and out rude but it just felt like an act. I never relaxed with him.

Whereas ant and Dec are basically the same on and off screen. Ants maybe a bit quieter. But funny, polite, good fun to work with. They're just ant and Dec!

Olly murs is a dick. Moaning and had delusions over his own importance...thought he was the star of the show. Spoiler alert, he wasn't.

Alison Hammond vile woman
was in a baby massage class with her 17 yrs ago sooo rude to everyone
also she abuses us all when she comes into the supermarket where I work we hide

So glad to hear this. She comes across as a self entitled nightmare and her appearance on the tv awards last week was just embarrassing. Sick to death of these reality wannabees who are handed full time acting careers. She’s foul mouthed, loud and so so annoying.

limitedperiodonly · 23/10/2022 17:56

Vanessa Feltz. Last time I went into details of my encounters with her, yes, unfortunately for me there was more than one so it wasn't just an off day, the post was deleted so I am just going to leave it at that.

luckylavender · 23/10/2022 17:59

Lowry Turner was vile to me during London Fashion Week once. And I have a colleague who was running a private event at a London Hotel that Thierry Henry tried to get into. When he blocked his way, Henry did the whole 'don't t you know who I am?' Funnily enough my colleague didn't!

Don't know how true it is but back in the day when we socialised with naval officers we were told that when Andrew joined his first ship he said to the Captain You can call me Sir to which the Captain replied No, Lieutenent, you call me Sir on my ship.

When I was little I met Patrick Moore, just as scatty as he appears but he was really nice to us all. Talked to us and listened to our babbling, seemed like a nice man.

When I was a teen I had a part time job booking in carpet and upholstery cleaning (tele sales). Surprisingly Patrick Moore was in the phone directory and I happened to call him when we were covering the Brighton area.

I had quite a pleasant if brusque conversation with Patrick Moore and arranged to call him back to book in his large rug to be cleaned.

when I called him back he denied all knowledge of it, and told me to Fuck off. 😂

I knew someone who worked at the Royal Academy, so not my story...
He told me that David Attenborough was absolutely vile.
( I know I couldn't believe it either)
Apparently the Academy does out of hours openings for their special members. On this occasion J had to open up, was thrilled to do so as he was a huge fan of DH.
Whilst unlocking the areas he turned to David H and mentioned he thought the last episode of xxx was the best TV he had ever seen. DH stood there and stared at him before saying coldly.. " I don't think someone like you should be talking to someone like me"
J was mortified.
On another occasion DH threw his coat at J and told him to take care of it.
He didn't left the coat on the floor and walked away.
Has never watched anything he's made since. Apparently his partner looked embarrassed both times.

sorry l don't understand your post. Who's J and who's DH?

SmileyClare · 23/10/2022 18:09

i thought we’d established DH is David Hattenborough Grin

sorry l don't understand your post. Who's J and who's DH?

J is her friend who she is referring too

DH is a mistake of one letter as she meant DA David Attenborough

VioletLemon · 23/10/2022 18:25

Don't know what he's like but he and his massive team have been on many, many private jets....

Mumrey · 23/10/2022 18:30

I use to see the late Wendy Richards around Marylebone. The first time I saw her, she was walking towards me, she knew I recognised her from the look on my face. She had a 'don't you dare talk to me' look, I just walked by - would not have dreamt of approaching her at all!!

My cousin saw Timothy Spall's son, Rafe. He had a chat with him about his dad who was best friends with him and my brother in primary school, he was polite.

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 23/10/2022 18:35

Take me out

Mingmoo · 23/10/2022 18:36

I think the reference to Kate Middleton is to balance out the one about Meghan, for what it’s worth. Same turn of phrase.

My worst is Gloria Hunniford. I was in a bookshop with an author for work (he was signing books) and they asked us to hide because they’d been warned she was coming in. She was not impressed they didn’t have her book in stock and complained to her husband about it as they left - the staff were very apologetic to us but couldn’t risk her encountering another author. Intense diva vibes. They said she was a nightmare, always.

Seriouslydudenotcool · 23/10/2022 18:36

Someone I work with met Kate Winslet once and said she was horribly rude.
