I'm pissed off. Dh has gone to meetca mate with the dogs for what I thought was a drink then walking the dogs together. So far he's spent £60 in the pub. I'm pissed off.
He quit his job end of July and is struggling to find a new one ( whole other story) so we've lost 2/3 of our income. I can pay rent bills and food if we're vv careful. He promised me that he'd only spend around £20 after the train fate to meet his friend. So annoyed.

Not if you live in London and like nice wine. A large glass of some nice plonk is £12 in my local. Cocktails cost more. Even if he’s just on craft ales (£7-9), it’s easily done if he’s paying for both of them.

The by your calculation he has already bought 3 rounds, so they've had 6 drinks each by 2:30? Which you'll know is 2 bottles of that lovely plonk.

It's not unheard of, but someone who is out of work and skint should not be spending £60 on drinks by 2:30 in the afternoon.

I thought they were having lunch? I had factored some food into that. I agree that two bottles is an unusual (although not unheard of) amount to drink by mid-afternoon, but I was actually thinking more a drink or two and some food.

I think everyone agrees that he shouldn't be spending £60 in the pub while money is tight. Whether that's a forgivable slip or not probably depends on how often it happens and what he's like generally. I do think that some of the vitriol and insults being levelled at him are a bit ott given that he's in his late 50s and has always worked, and earned 2/3 of household income. He does need to lower his sights if the family are struggling.

When a wife posts about finances mn rises up to asssert it’s shared family money.
when it regards the man, it’s straight to give him an allowance, cancel the card etc
