As title really. Just wondering if, on an anonymous basis, the results here would reflect what I’m hearing around me in real life.

Would you personally like to see Boris return to being PM?

YABU - yes
YANBU - no

(There’s no bias in the choice of which is unreasonable - I just had to pick one!)

No. I don't normally advocate civil unrest but I think there should be mass protests if they bring him back in - I will probably joining them. (There is a protest planned in London on 5 Nov btw demanding a General Election).

And I am not even a family member of a Covid victim who was bereaved while Johnson partied, just read what some of them have to say about the prospect of him coming back www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/oct/22/families-of-covid-victims-hit-out-boris-johnson-comeback-conservatives
It is such a massive to fingers up at them as well as the rest of the public, for the Conservative party to even contemplate having him back.

Rainbowshit · 22/10/2022 11:30

Fuck no!

Badbadbunny · 22/10/2022 11:30

Purpleavocado · 22/10/2022 11:01

I wouldn't, he seems to be in it for his ego, not because he wants to do good for the country.

Personally I think that applies to absolutely everyone (both parties) who put themselves up for the PM job. There's a reason that lots of "normal" MPs don't want the job - ironically they're the ones who'd be better at it.

sobeyondthehills · 22/10/2022 11:32

I dont understand how anyone in the tory party can boot him out under a vote of no confidence and then go actually its fine.

But to be honest, I am thinking of joining the Tory party, just so I can get in line for my time as PM

TootMootZoot · 22/10/2022 11:34

No, but would hate to see Rishi S even more. I guess Penny M is better but Im not really sure. It's all a bit depressing isn't it.

notdaddycool · 22/10/2022 11:35

I’ll put on a tin hat and say I was a Tory member last time and voted for him. No longer a member but I’d not vote Tory if he is their PM candidate next time.

woff45 · 22/10/2022 11:35

My 12 year old said if Boris is PM again "we are officially the most stupid country in the world" if a 12 year old gets it there is no excuse for the adults.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 22/10/2022 11:18

Fuck no for many reasons but most particularly

  1. he doesn’t want to come back because he thinks he can solve the enormous problems we face, he wants to come back as a massive fuck you to the Tories who got rid of him
  2. he only backed Brexit because he thought it was his route to power. He doesn’t really believe in it, he just wanted to be PM. He’s a lying narcissistic cunt

I agree with most of this.
except I wouldn’t call him a cunt. He clearly lacks the warmth and depth.

those who want him back seem to have very short memories, whatever his ability.

KangarooKenny · 22/10/2022 11:13

Wasn’t there a similar party for Labour ?

No. HTH.

Inertia · 22/10/2022 11:41

Fuck no.

A commentator on Twitter has suggested that he’d come in as PM with a few weeks to shut down the committee investigating him, which would need a commons vote.

DorchaAndLouis · 22/10/2022 11:42

mumsnet polls usually reflect the opposite of RL.

eg Brexit referendum, all the mumsnet predictions were that result would be Stay. Last 2 elections, Labour would definitely win.

Also I don't know anyone in RL who cares about Partygate, whether Johnson is a womaniser etc, while posters here go on and on about it.

WhatdoImean · 22/10/2022 11:43

I voted no, simply for sanity.... BUT... the truth is that if he WAS brought back, he would destroy the Conservative party, so there IS a temptation....

RonSwansonsChair · 22/10/2022 11:47

As an outsider looking in I think Britain will be the laughing stock of the world if BJ is the next PM.
I do think it's a poisoned chalice though, whoever is appointed will lead the party into the next election and will lose.

WatchoRulo · 22/10/2022 11:50

You mix with people with no moral compass - not something I'd come on here to brag about, but fair play. Being unable to see what's wrong (or not caring) with partying while the rest of us were trying to do the decent thing (including the late Queen) is why the country is in this mess - we are run by amoral corrupt liars who don't even think there's anything wrong with lying and cheating.

ajandjjmum · 22/10/2022 11:51

Keyansier · 22/10/2022 10:58

I personally wouldn't. I'm really disliking everyone in politics at the moment so I have no preference as to who is in to be honest as I think they're all as bad and disingenuous as the other. But the reason I wouldn't like Boris back is because I think it'd be a step backwards, rather than forwards.

This.

I'm in the same situation - and feel the same. How can he even be considered? Three months ago he was voted unfit for the role, and nothing has changed in the interim to negate this decision. Its bizarre.

Whizzi24 · 22/10/2022 11:56

Absolutely not. It makes a mockery of our entire governing system. However, I think the Conservative Party will do better in the election with him as PM as there are some float

bellabasset · 22/10/2022 11:57

No
•Read his Wikipedia entry
•He had to resign
• He's being investigated by the Parliamentary Privileges Committee
• His statement to the House stating that Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe was teaching journalists
• His promotion of the Referendum by driving around in a bus promising millions to fund the NHS when he in fact imposed a levy to fund it
• Getting Brexit done didn't deliver the promises he'd made - yes we got the blue passports together with the inconveniences that come with being out of the EU

On another thread someone referred to him as the Ayatollah of blue passports, I think. Had I thought that 37% of the electorate could have voted the UK out of the EU I would've got my green passport. He's got charisma or as Amber Rudd put it while he's the life and soul of the party you wouldn't want him driving you home. My description is he's a lovable lunatic

Whizzi24 · 22/10/2022 11:58

Oops, posted too soon. There are some floating voters who incomprehensively adore Boris but would not vote for any other Tory PM. He's so marmite though that they will lose the next election regardless, but a few more MPs might think they will hang onto their jobs with him in charge.

MangyInseam · 22/10/2022 12:00

Overall I don't much care about the stupid parties and things like that. I don't think they reflect ability to govern.

They are though emblematic of a lack of personal self-discipline which has dogged him throughout his political career.

In terms of politics, I think he's ok. Not brilliant, but he is able to walk a political line in terms of keeping the party focused and keeping the public placated which is harder to do than I think many people realize.

All that being said, I think having been removed, putting him back seems a bit crazy. I can't see him changing his ways, or at least, I think it is not likely.

On the other hand, look at Churchill, he had more incarnations than a cat. POlitics can be weird.

Yeah your 12 year old definitely understands all the nuances of the current political landscape and has made an educated judgment

PlanBea · 22/10/2022 12:05

What I don't get is why people are saying "but he's coming back from holiday!" Like it's some wonderful gesture of patriotism.

MPs have 22 weeks a year of recess and this isn't one of them. So why is he holidaying across the globe when he should be working at his job as an MP? Where was his patriotism when he thought he would just skive work for a few weeks??

bellabasset · 22/10/2022 12:08

Moody's have just downgraded our economy from stable to negative

Boris has arrived back in the UK

LynneBenfield · 22/10/2022 12:09

No.

I wouldn’t be remotely surprised if he did return though. Since Trump got in nothing surprises me. I bet he’ll be back too. Unflushable turds.

PeekAtYou · 22/10/2022 12:10

Boris stayed far longer than he should and should be confined to the history books.
