As title really. Just wondering if, on an anonymous basis, the results here would reflect what I’m hearing around me in real life.

Would you personally like to see Boris return to being PM?

YABU - yes
YANBU - no

(There’s no bias in the choice of which is unreasonable - I just had to pick one!)

Honestly, everyone I've spoken to in real life wants Boris back. Even the Labour supporters.

I’m sure in some areas this is the case. There was an MP on earlier saying he did a vote at a constituency meeting and it went this way.

But many people still have the same views they had before at the opposite end.

Imo it would be better to have Sunak but we’ll see what happens

Itslookinggood · 22/10/2022 20:15

No. A proven liar, charlatan and narcissist will not restore market confidence in the UK.

Willyoujustbequiet · 22/10/2022 20:17

Not a chance in hell.

Who on earth said yes?!

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 22/10/2022 20:23

NO.
Although speaking to my mum earlier she's like "Bring back Boris" 😭😂
FFS, mother.
I honestly don't get it.
Think she thinks he's just like your mate down the street, one of us, no he's bloody not.

HappySalmon · 22/10/2022 20:38

What a mess we’re in. It has just gone downhill since 2016 when the referendum was won by the leave campaign due to Boris et al telling everyone a pack of lies about how it would benefit us. Since then this terrible party has ruined the lives of so many people and yet there are still people wanting to be fed more from this liar! It’s unbelievable.

Fruitbatt · 22/10/2022 20:39

Absolutely prefer Boris over any of them.

Appropriate user name.

Imnotswallowingthat · 22/10/2022 20:48

Anyone but Sunak, his cutting of public services to balance the books will make the last period of austerity look like good times.

Twiggywinkle13 · 22/10/2022 21:09

Yes, I hope he does come back. I hate the tories with every fibre of my being but I think he’ll continue to fuck it up so royally that hopefully my children will never have to endure another Tory government in their lifetime.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 22/10/2022 21:12

Fruitbatt · 22/10/2022 20:39

Absolutely prefer Boris over any of them.

Why?
(Genuine question, not faux innocence "I'm all ears" crap you sometimes get on here when it's nothing if the sort and just disingenuous bollocks)
Just trying to see other viewpoint as my mum sounds like you 🙂

KTheGrey · 22/10/2022 14:00

@travellinglighter
I missed when Priti Patel was PM.
But no, because Kier Starmer is happy with the erasure of women and I can't vote for that.

Never said she was, I said she was a fascist and Keri Badenoch seems cut from the same cloth.

Sunsnowsun · 22/10/2022 21:28

No just NO

I do t disagree with you ur who is truly at fault here. If prospective politicians ever told the truth then they would never get elected. Those that don't lie never get elected to become politicians.

Politicians that promise better services and higher public spending without increasing taxes or lower taxes with no cuts in public spending will get elected despite it not being possible as Liz Truss has just found out.

Yes there were outlandish lies in the Leave campaign on Brexit but these were countered by respected economists, 17 million voters chose to ignore this.

So who's to blame here - politicians lying in order to get elected or the voters being dumb enough to vote for them and not seeing that you don't get something for nothing.

whatkatydid2013 · 22/10/2022 21:43

My colleague said the other day he would want him back because at least you know what you get with Boris 🤷🏼‍♀️
I don’t want him back but I don’t particularly like any of the options either and after the total fiasco with Truss I can see people might prefer him to someone who could be an even bigger liability.
I think it could well be him though. If enough MPs back him and the membership have to choose between him and Rishi Sunak I expect they will pick him. The whole non dom thing went down like a lead balloon when people were polled on it and while he is awful he did nothing that much worse while PM than he’d already done previously. People voted for him with a track record of a being a liar and awarding contracts to friends and making racist comments etc. I can well believe the membership gambling on people being so relieved he isn’t Liz Truss they will like him again. It’s depressing really

HappySalmon · 22/10/2022 21:44

Yes I do blame the voters @1dayatatime I think unfortunately the majority of people in this country are not very bright and the government we have put in charge of it is testament to this. There are fundamental flaws at the core of society that are only getting worse as time goes on. It’s like we’re need to hit rock bottom before we can start to climb back up and progress can be made, I’d like to think we’re near rock bottom now but sadly I think we’re nowhere near it.

BreadInCaptivity · 22/10/2022 22:22

Personally I think the problem with the electorate is that is has far too much focus on a party leader and personality rather than politics/policy.

I get why many people like Boris (even though I profoundly disagree he's a suitable MP never mind PM).

Like Trump, he delivers "oven ready" feel good sound bites that people don't believe they have to engage with or fact check.

His bumbling persona that is a product of arrogance, laziness and entitlement is perceived as being down to earth and a man of the people.

By contrast, more serious politicians pass people by as they can't be arsed to listen beyond a sentence or two - even in respect of complex issues.

Like it or not, we have the politicians we vote for and the policies they think we want.

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/10/2022 23:14

Absolutely fucking not. We need a GE.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 22/10/2022 23:58

We need a GE.
Definitely

2022Ilovealiein · 23/10/2022 04:37

ABSOLUTELY NOT NO!!

susan12345678 · 23/10/2022 05:19

I personally don't think it makes much difference who leads, they all seem equally despicable and grasping and I thoroughly dislike the lot of them, but I suspect many people may agree that Boris should be reinstated because the public actually voted for him - albeit years ago.

When Boris was deemed unfit for office, it was in the context (IMO) of the wider party being unfit for office, so replacing him internally without allowing the public their say was an inappropriate choice.

Really, at that point, instead of a leadership election, we should have had a general election. The sooner we have one, the better.

ShandaLear · 23/10/2022 05:38

Imagine, you’re a conservative. You know in your bones that Johnson is a baddun who has treated his queen and country with utter contempt, lied and blustered his way through his tenure, broke the law, gave backhanders to his mates, and defended the indefensible. In short, he’s the most corrupt man most of us have ever come across; and knowing all of that, you still vote for him. Where has your moral compass gone? How can you think the electorate will stomach that? How can you even think this man is worthy enough to polish your shoes? Johnson’s last tenure ended in his disgrace. What makes you think it will end differently this time? It is stupid to repeat the same mistake and a different outcome. If we lie down with the dog we get up with fleas (again).

Pandor · 23/10/2022 05:52

Anything other than a general election seems absurd at this point.

Johnson was a disgrace to the office, this was recognised by a large number of his colleagues who refused to serve with him.

Nothing about him has changed since then. He is still under an investigation. To even consider bringing him back is insanity, it shows desperation on the part of the Tories, an acknowledgment that they really have nothing left to offer but that shambling shop-soiled clown and his endless fucking references to Ancient Rome (we get it, you studied Classics, big fucking deal, most of us have more to talk about as adults than the content of our university essays).

if Johnson returns he does at least come complete with a big stick, that he will immediately hand over to Keir Starmer to mercilessly beat him with at every PMQs for the next 2 years until Labour are able to start the multi- generational task of clearing up the towering clusterfuck of a shitshow the Tories have fashioned out of this country.

Pandor · 23/10/2022 05:53

So that was a “no” from me.

tocahairchop · 23/10/2022 10:43

It doesn't look like Boris Johnson has enough backers anyway? It's all gone very quiet after his camp 'claimed' to have 100. Hopefully now that Rishi Sunak has declared that he's running and has over 100 that will get settle this claim down...

Nadal · 23/10/2022 10:51

Or emigrating even 🙄
