Why is Boris on holiday?

diian · 21/10/2022 08:25

Isn't he a serving MP for Uxbridge?

Parliament is in session and there was a 3 line whip 2 nights ago.

How come he is in a luxury hotel in the Caribbean on holiday? What is he doing for his constituents and democracy on a tropical beach? Don't MPs take their holidays when Parliament is not session?

Is this just another example of Boris doing his own thing and making his own rules?

Came on here to say he's a lazy freeloader but everyone has already said it for me! Can't believe there are people who want him back as leader/PM.

Bramblejoos · 21/10/2022 08:44

A 'friend' offered free accommodation.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 21/10/2022 08:50

The man is Teflon. It's infuriating and I can't understand why his constituents put up with it. Volunteer school governors have to declare how many meetings they attend each year buy MPs get away with hols in term time and not holding surgeries. It's one of very few things that literally makes me shake my head when I read about it. Shameful.

SuperCamp · 21/10/2022 08:51

So he’s flying back to have his crack at power and ‘I told you so’, but wouldn’t stay to serve his constituents in the normal running of the country (sic).

He fits right in. The majority of commentary from the tories about recent clusterfuckery is concern that it makes them unelectable and that they will lose power at the next GE. Not about people’s bills, health, mortgages, the damage to our international trade negotiations etc. Nope. Just Tory Power on repeat

He is a nasty member of a nasty bunch of people.

Shinyandnew1 · 21/10/2022 08:53

Do MP’s get annual leave on top of the holidays?

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 21/10/2022 08:54

When his DM died did he take any Rome off? Or when his DC were recently born? Maybe he did I don't know I just remembered as pm he was missing for a day or so and his sister said our DM has died? Maybe he has banked some holiday?
. whatever you think of the man a lot happened to him in two year's including nearly dying from covid.

I don't know why anyone wants the pm role!!
I certainly think he needs a break.

I would also say this were it Tony Blair who I also detest.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 21/10/2022 08:56

Rome off 🤣

Time off !

theworldhas · 21/10/2022 08:58

I second the person who questions why people still slavishly use Johnson’s stage name. Unless you still believe buy into the loveable rogue brand he built up, still referring to him by his stage name at this point is really stupid. Call him Johnson or Boris Johnson. He’s not your mate.

jannier · 21/10/2022 09:01

Hes always on holiday only seems to go to Uxbridge when there's a vote. He's gig to spend that mega pension for being pm somehow.

Chateaudiaries · 21/10/2022 09:03

The grift is strong with Johnson. Imagine applying for a new job while you are skiving off your current one.

Cranmer · 21/10/2022 09:06

I am learning lots of new words through this nonsense!

grift
schadenfreude

Oldowl · 21/10/2022 09:09

Not to mention Cincinnatus!

Anniegetyourgun · 21/10/2022 09:15

I don't call him Boris in a loveable rogue way. I call him it in contempt. Johnson is a common surname which also belongs to decent people, like the Labour MP Alan Johnson who I remember, from my time in the Civil Service, as an amazing godlike being. Alexander is a name in our family that belongs to a couple of people I'm very fond of. The only Boris I can think of off-hand who I like was Karloff, and that wasn't even his real name.

QuebecBagnet · 21/10/2022 09:15

If he gets back in as Prime Minister I wonder if the wallpaper will still be there or if Liz has already decorated?

PupInAPram · 21/10/2022 09:18

Because his work ethic is non-existent. He's a lazy, entitled, immoral idiot.

DeanVillage · 21/10/2022 09:20

He's opening an office in New York to manage his US public speaking gigs, (one of which earned him £350k for 30 minutes last week). I imagine all that hard work meant it was only sensible to stop off in the Caribbean in the way home for some R&R.

DontSpeakLatinInFrontOfTheBooks · 21/10/2022 09:21

The honest answer is because he is Boris fucking Johnson and he gives not one single fuck about anyone or anything but himself. Of course he’s on fucking holiday again.

I’d be more shocked if he was actually at work. What is far worse than BJ being a fucking useless sack of shit as an MP is the number of people who think he should be our PM again. Mental.

RudsyFarmer · 21/10/2022 09:25

Come on Boris, you’re the one chance the Tories have of getting re-elected. I miss his bumbling speeches. They brought a tiny ray of happiness.

mandolinwind · 21/10/2022 09:25

I keep seeing this statement reiterated on forums and by the media.

Where is the evidence that he "nearly died of Covid"?

Pity the island can't suffer a Shetlandesque power outage. Stop him getting messages in or out!

I don’t understand why MPs aren’t restricted to the times parliament isn’t sitting for holidays? They seem to get similar periods away from parliament to school holidays? Although I wonder if the people of Uxbridge notice when he’s gone, can’t imagine he’s a terribly conscientious MP.

MPs are not employees as such but 'office holders' who can basically do what they want. They have no working hours, can turn up when they want, work the hours they want, go on the holidays they want with no formal restrictions. Their 'contract' is with the voters in their constituency who can defeat them at the next election or launch a recall petition.

However they are subject to the demands of the party managers and whips in Parliament who demand that they turn up to vote, attend committees etc. The whips/ the party can then discipline them and ultimately stop them running as a party candidate again. I think the House of Commons also has powers if they do something wrong in the house - they could ultimately expel them as an MP.

So he can do what he wants...

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/10/2022 08:32

Because he's a lazy piece of shit who only cares about himself.

And are you not allowed to go on holiday then? FFS People are allowed to go away and "3 line whips" only really matter if the majority in parliament is small.

Shinyandnew1 · 21/10/2022 08:53

Do MP’s get annual leave on top of the holidays?

It's not a job like that. He isn't required to be at a desk 9-5....

I don't know about you, but sadly my employers don't allow me to take several holidays a year. Is it his fifth or his sixth this year?

Other Conservative MPs were being told they would lose the whip if they didn't vote in the fracking debate, even if they had already got pairing arrangements in place. What gave Johnson immunity?

Does he ever take his older children on holiday?

Really? I can't imagine Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and her family associate his lazy careless mis-statements about her while she was in prison in Iran, which led to her sentence being extended, felt he brought them a tiny ray of happiness.
