Why is Boris on holiday?

diian · 21/10/2022 08:25

Isn't he a serving MP for Uxbridge?

Parliament is in session and there was a 3 line whip 2 nights ago.

How come he is in a luxury hotel in the Caribbean on holiday? What is he doing for his constituents and democracy on a tropical beach? Don't MPs take their holidays when Parliament is not session?

Is this just another example of Boris doing his own thing and making his own rules?

Why shouldn't he be on holiday? Confused He is as entitled as anyone else to have a break.

littlequestion · 21/10/2022 11:30

Because Parliament is sitting and they have weeks of recess!

Why shouldn't he be on holiday? Confused He is as entitled as anyone else to have a break.

Why shouldn't my daughter's teacher be on holiday in the first week of term? She is as entitled as anyone else to have a break.

Why shouldn't the surgeon scheduled to do my mother's hip replacement be on annual leave instead? He's as entitled as anyone else to have a break.

Why shouldn't the Premiership footballer take the day off on a Saturday? He's as entitled as anyone else to have a break.

Etc etc. Most of us have to abide by the rules and demands of our jobs. Taking a long-distance holiday when you are supposed to be representing your constituents in Parliament at a time of national crisis is just not on.

Please all email your MP giving him/her your views on the return of Johnson. This is the only tiny way the electorate can have any say in this matter.

I would if she was a Tory, but as she is a Labour Shadow Minister, I probably don't need to bother!

Personally I'm glad Boris is away, wish they'd all fuck off to the Caribbean and let some competent people do the job instead.

😂. I agree.

What incredibly silly and pointless comparisons.

D minus. Must try harder.

Actually he was doing speeches in the US and DR is very close to where he has been working. I am assuming they added a few days to make a small break of it. As he is entitled to do. He must be exhausted after the last few years.

He is on his way back and about to get well over one hundred backers.

Exhausted after the last few years? Nobody forced him to become an MP again after he promised he wouldn't when he stood for election as Mayor of London. Nobody forced him to do a U-turn on his Brexit position and play his part in throwing the country into chaos. Nobody forced him to stand for election as Prime Minister and then prioritise writing a book over attending COBRA meetings when the pandemic hit.

Because his job like many others has set holiday periods, pretty generous ones. This isn't one of them.

Anniefrenchfry · 21/10/2022 11:49

I keep seeing this and to be honest I think there is a lot of mud to be slung at boris but I don’t feel this is valid.

They are allowed holidays , when parliament is in recess it’s so they can spend time working in their constituencies, it’s not like school where they are just off. They have year round jobs. As such mps are allowed to take holiday like the rest of us. He clearly had it booked in advance and was hardly to know liz truss would fuck it immediately.I mean he knew she’d fuck it but not so fast that he shouldn’t have taken holiday

I second the person who questions why people still slavishly use Johnson’s stage name. Unless you still believe buy into the loveable rogue brand he built up, still referring to him by his stage name at this point is really stupid. Call him Johnson or Boris Johnson. He’s not your mate.

I prefer De Piffle, think it sums him up. The misspelling is intended.

PestorPeston · 21/10/2022 12:04

I'd assumed he was on an informal suspension while the Privileges Committee investigated him for purposely misleading the House ie contempt

DrBlackbird · 21/10/2022 12:05

He fits right in. The majority of commentary from the tories about recent clusterfuckery is concern that it makes them unelectable and that they will lose power at the next GE. Not about people’s bills, health, mortgages, the damage to our international trade negotiations etc. Nope. Just Tory Power on repeat

This ^^ We were talking this morning about how the Tory party values power above all else including ability and competence. And why wouldn’t they given how being in power combines privilege and profit. Plus, thanks to an endlessly forgiving and largely Tory controlled press, they don’t have to be competent.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/10/2022 12:05

Anyone who thinks Boris Johnson should be considered as the next Tory Leader needs to watch this carefully and ask themselves whether this man can be trusted.

Well explain why it's different for a sitting MP to take 2 weeks holiday during the Parliamentary session than any of the people listed instead of just making a flippant comment.

He was on holiday while he was working out his notice as PM too.

But the schedule of dates when the HoC is in session hasn't changed. His absence was probably only widely noticed because the chaos over the fracking vote led to media speculation over the list of Conservative MPs who didn't vote. People were asking if Johnson had abstained on purpose and if Truss would really remove the whip from him, and it came out that he was on holiday.

It's like a teacher or professor going on holiday during term time - sure it's possible, but it raises questions about why they're not waiting and using their massive amounts of time off.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 21/10/2022 12:14

The fools in this country voted for his party and he made a joke of himself as he has no brains and the fools thought he is endearing. Oh Boris they said.
And he screwed us all and is now enjoying his life while we all cant.

2bazookas · 21/10/2022 12:25

. Can't think why his holiday susprises you; Boris was pretty much a slacker MP / party-boy PM throughout his political "career".

If he gets back in as Prime Minister I wonder if the wallpaper will still be there or if Liz has already decorated?

No matter it will need a redecoration much more important than politics

Come on Boris, you’re the one chance the Tories have of getting re-elected. I miss his bumbling speeches. They brought a tiny ray of happiness“

How many holidays is someone who's not ling been back from summer recess allowed in a normal job let alone one paying as much as his

BJ supporters on MN!

His bumbling speeches were a ray of sunshine - Really? That's your reason for getting him back? He brought me no sunshine with his constant lies. A comedian would bring a tough of levity to politics - maybe we could wheel one in for laughs.

He didn't do anything wrong, not really. He just had a few lockdown parties - didn't we all - errr NO. I kept the law, as did all of my family and friends. Not only did millions of people not have parties, they also did not visit dying relatives in hospital, they did not attend funerals, they did not see their loved ones in care homes for months. All Boris had to do was refrain for holding parties. He could not even manage this.

Well he got Brexit done - oh really? What amazing progres did he make on that. And while I'm at it where is all the money the NHS was promised on the side of that bus.

He's not Corbyn - no, and more's the pity. And frankly if that is all you have got, bearing in mind that he has not been the leader of the opposition for quite some time now, then it really is about time to readust your 'whataboutery' arguments.

Find this bizarre too, can't understand why People would vote for Boris due to those things as you are still electing Tory ideology to make decisions that are going to effect you and unless you earn over 150k a year then the majority of those decisions are going to negatively effect you.

By putting 'Boris' in power you are also putting the likes of Patel, Braverman, Shapps, etc into power and lets be honest, they all subscribe to the kind of ideology that will reduce workers rights, deregulate, defund public services and generally shaft most people. 12.5 years of this and people still want Boris because they'd prefer to have a pint with him down the pub.

Likewise as mine has school aged children and is also a member of an opposition party.
