Any Tory voters here who are switching to Labour this time?

Curious because I think this rarely happens and I can't see Labour getting in, I don't think Tory voters change their mind. Am I very wrong? Do you/have you?

If there is a GE I will read the manifestos and then make a decision.

How else would anyone sensibly make a decision ?

I mean, do people just have some sort of blind allegiance to one side or the other and vote for them no matter what ?

The problem with that, is that the tories in particular will tell you anything then go back on it. ''Compassionate conservatism'' They said then we got misery and even death based on the austerity they imposed on us. We also got Hunt running down the NHS with privatisation on the sly (lots of NHS services now outsourced to tory cronies. Tories only ever have one manifesto and that is tax payer money to the rich and punishment at the bottom, to top it off we all have a 2 hour ambulance wait and a bed in a corridor on arrival at hospital.
As for Labour, not by any means perfect or even very good, but their manifesto has always been close to what they deliver. Last time we got a massively improved NHS, much improved education and a stable economy for at least a decade. Labours big failing right now is in pretending that brexit can work.

The shift of the Tory parter to the right must surely stop quite a lot of Previous Tory voters continuing to vote for them!

I have friends who voted Tory in the past because they run their own businesses & believed that the Tory party was best for them but they balk at the immigration policy & scrapping of workers rights & human rights act!

Voting TORY now is almost equivalent to voting for UKIP or worse!

HariboReckoning · 20/10/2022 15:55

If there were an imminent GE, I’d spoil my ballot.

Spanielsarepainless · 20/10/2022 15:56

Absolutely no chance of my swapping to Labour. Their leader might appear all right but the shadow cabinet? Grim prospect. Blair handed over to Brown with no general election and not even MPs or party members got a vote on that.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 20/10/2022 15:49

Christ no. Greens will get my vote.

I've voted for them in the distant past but the last I heard about them was an insane LGBTQA+++++ statement that was utterly insane.

The local candidate has always been a factor in my vote. Last time the sitting MP was a local man who had been a decent backbench Tory MP and the Labour parachuted a guy in from 300 miles away.

Ostagazuzulum · 20/10/2022 16:04

Im but rubbish about voting (I think they're all a bit rubbish) What a total shower of sh*t conservative turned out to be so I feel like I've no choice but to vote labour to stop conservative getting in again.

1000yellowdaisies · 20/10/2022 16:04

Genuine question here - what does spoiling your ballot paper do? I had always assumed it was a waste of time as they were just ignored.... but are they counted up? Does anything happen to a spoilt ballot paper?

snumsmet · 20/10/2022 16:06

They read it out, assuming it doesn't contain foul language.

I wouldn’t be prepared to vote either Tory or Labour. I loathe how the Tories are wrecking this country but as a woman and mother of daughters there’s not a chance I could vote Labour either.

Look at the opportunity your daughters have lost under the tories mess over the last 12 years, never mind the effects many of us are suffering, like for eg a run down and ready to be privatised NHS, the failure of Brexit (labour needs to get real on this issue too) Much poorer education (our local secondary school has nowhere near enough teachers and more are set to leave their vocation on account of tory conditions) The reduced opportunities for school/university leavers. It will either be high finance jobs for the privately educated or McDonalds joblets for the peasants if we get another innings of tory. As for daughter safety, look at how run down the police force is and the decline in quality of police officers where misogyny and sexual misconduct is almost institutionally approved of. They have little interest in crime.

Have Labour given a definition of what a woman is yet?

Can't vote until they do.

Yes, it's someone who sometimes can have a penis

Spoilt papers are counted and appear in the results.

Probably not

The only issue is that, this government have lost credibility. They could write anything in their manifesto then just not bother doing it. They haven't exactly been a shining beacon for integrity. You just can't trust them.

And I don’t think that Labour are a shining beacon of integrity either. Beneath the surface there is a hard left agenda

fromdownwest · 20/10/2022 16:15

Can't vote Tory again, and can not vote a party that has Angela Rayner, Kier Starmer and Dianne Abbot in it.

All utterly abhorent people.

I will just abstain this time, unless a suitable option comes along.

SundownOnTheStair · 20/10/2022 16:17

Newcatbrowntail · 20/10/2022 15:27

I’m politically centre and gender critical, I’m hoping for an SDP candidate, or labour or any other party to come to its senses and protect women’s sex based rights and safeguarding of vulnerable children and adults .
I’ll vote for what I feel is the most important issue for me and that is woman's rights and safeguarding.

Please vote for anyone other than Labour or SDP as neither are offically prepared to define what a woman is.

There are no words for that daft twat Ed Davey but to hear Yvette Cooper say she would not be "dragged down that rabbit hole" when asked on Radio 4 how she would define a woman was a crying disgrace.

Whoever comes to your door, ask them if only a woman can have a cervix. Whatever party colour they are if the answer is not yes, then you are speaking to a lunatic and act accordingly.

But women’s rights will disappear under Labour.

Curious because I think this rarely happens and I can't see Labour getting in, I don't think Tory voters change their mind. Am I very wrong? Do you/have you?

They don't need to.

If the Tory voters stay home as unenthusiastic about voting Tory or vote for another right wing party splitting the vote - that's probably enough in many areas for them to lose especially if floating voters are won over to Labour.

There is also as PP said hating the party but thinking current MP is actually a good constituent MP or shit one to get rid of to factor in.

I'm not sure the floating voters- which I am one - are won over though and there are other parties to vote for - and if it looks a certain a win for Labour their vote may not come out in numbers needed - something they'd have to fight against.

The polls currently have insane numbers saying they'll vote Labour - however a large part of that is a protest vote against the current Tory government and whether that translates to people making the effort to actually vote is unclear - it looks bad for Conservatives now though so expect it will be a bit longer before we get a GE anyway.

scaredysquiggle · 20/10/2022 16:20

Just watched Keir. He's more concerned with a quotable sound bite and is repeating that instead of answering the questions sensibly. We are lost!

(Not a conservative voter)

RedAppleGirl · 20/10/2022 14:33

No.
I'll be staying the same.
Can't stand labour back2front woke party.

Disgusting that people will still vote Tory

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2022 16:22

Starmer sees this as his moment as increasingly shouting into the wind because it’s passing. He knows a GE now is his best bet but we’ll just get a new leader instead.

Yes, because that’s the most important issue at the moment. Not mortgage rates/utility bills/inflation/food prices.

mumofninetofive · 20/10/2022 16:22

I'd rather pull my own teeth than vote labour ever!!!

I'm not sure it's fair to blame Tories for the police. The police has been corrupt for a long, long time and you could argue it's impossible for such an organisation not to become corrupt. It will always attract corrupt people as it's a position of power.

And what opportunities are lost? I don't know what you mean. My daughter's in a state school, I can't see any option as closed to her because of the Tories. So I'm genuinely interested.

I don't always vote, and have voted tactically a couple of times but this time it could be anyone or no one for me.
