Any Tory voters here who are switching to Labour this time?

Curious because I think this rarely happens and I can't see Labour getting in, I don't think Tory voters change their mind. Am I very wrong? Do you/have you?

I voted Tory in 2019 and have always done so. The party as it stands right now is an embarrassing fiasco. There is a lot about Labour i disagree with but i could not bring myself to vote Tory if there is a election called soon. I am seriously considering a Labour vote.
There's plenty about Labour i disagree with... i don't know to be honest. Its a shambles. Labour have got such a massive opportunity here.

Stars71 · 20/10/2022 15:05

Message sent before I finished..never will I vote Labour, but I can't defend my party, at this moment in time. Its an absolute bloody circus.

cobblers123 · 20/10/2022 15:05

I'm in Braverman's constituency, I have no idea who I will vote for if a GE is called.

It won't be Conservative or Labour though.

Anniefrenchfry · 20/10/2022 15:06

This is just pointless. The tories aren’t going to call a ge. Even sky news just said the chances of that are non existent, even down at parliament they are saying it won’t happen, the tories habe a healthy majority,

are people Really so poorly informed they think this is something that might happen? That if they and starmer shout it loud enough the tories will say yeah alright mate 🤣

Minfilia · 20/10/2022 15:09

If either party had better policies and a better leader I would vote for them.

I voted conservative in the last two GEs, but unless things change, I will vote for nobody this time. Sick of voting for the least bad option.

If a GE is called soon, then I'm stumped. I can't vote for labour with their stance on trans rights, I have daughters and I won't put them at risk anymore than they have to be.

But the Tory party no longer represents my views and wishes for the country

Not sure labour are the only ones with those views m.youtube.com/watch?v=m4ivErDEGAY

whiteroseredrose · 20/10/2022 15:14

It's so bloody hard finding a party to vote for. DH and I read manifestos and generally disagree with chunks of all of them.

In the end I hold my nose and vote for the best of a bad bunch.

whiteroseredrose · 20/10/2022 15:16

@TessTick1e she's back tracked on that a lot on Twitter!!!

Yeh you’re probably right. Starmer knows this is the biggest lead atm but I doubt he’ll get it just for that

StarbucksSmarterSister · 20/10/2022 15:18

do people just have some sort of blind allegiance to one side or the other and vote for them no matter what ?

Yes they do and sadly I know quite a few. Lots of people don't read the manifesto.

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/10/2022 15:19

I’ve never understood why people purport to be lifelong supporters of one party. Political parties change direction and what you might have supported ten years ago, might be totally different now.
I look at the manifestos and select the one that most nearly matches my opinion, plus looking at the candidates and their background and views. Having said that, I don’t see myself voting Tory.

Stars71 · 20/10/2022 15:20

Question is: will Labour go in for the kill? Short of a GE being called, which it won't be, will Labour, finally, have the balls to do something radical, instead of sitting in the shadows?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/10/2022 15:22

GasPanic · 20/10/2022 14:33

If there is a GE I will read the manifestos and then make a decision.

How else would anyone sensibly make a decision ?

I mean, do people just have some sort of blind allegiance to one side or the other and vote for them no matter what ?

Some people make a decision based on past track record as much as the manifesto, which could very easily be a load of undeliverable bollocks.

CaveMum · 20/10/2022 15:23

Floating voter here. If there was an election imminently, I think I'd just write "A pox on both your houses!" across the ballot paper.

Dotjones · 20/10/2022 15:24

I'll never vote Labour. No matter how badly the Tories have fucked me over in the last 12 years, Labour did much more damage in the 13 years before that.

At the last election I felt unable to vote Tory so spoilt my ballot. The Tories weren't suitable but frankly none of the alternatives were either. Where I am we don't get joke protest vote parties like the Loonies or the BNP, I think it was a choice between the main three parties and two fringe parties (UKIP and Green).

Unless something dramatically changes I'll probably spoil my ballot next time around too. Labour under Kier Starmer are not a suitable prospect for government, just because the Tories are appalling it doesn't automatically follow that "anyone else" must be better. (Remember, a few months ago people were saying "anyone" would be better than Johnson... then we got Truss.)

Newcatbrowntail · 20/10/2022 15:27

I’m politically centre and gender critical, I’m hoping for an SDP candidate, or labour or any other party to come to its senses and protect women’s sex based rights and safeguarding of vulnerable children and adults .
I’ll vote for what I feel is the most important issue for me and that is woman's rights and safeguarding.

BigWoollyJumpers · 20/10/2022 15:27

Despite the number of MN's saying they have only ever voted for one party or another, the general rule is that floating voters in the middle ie: the majority, decide governments. I have voted for Conservative (Thatcher), Labour (Tony Blair), and back to Conservative. Might have a flirt with Lib Dems, but only because we have a good local one now, and our local Tory is a twat. But the Lib Dems as a party have a lot of policies that are just a little bit loony.

However, to quote a previous op - I always look at manifesto's and run through policies, and pick the one who most fits my opinion. It's never 100%. I can't really believe that one would endorse 100% of a parties policies, surely? You'd have to be pretty extreme one way or the other to do so.

Newcatbrowntail · 20/10/2022 15:27

I’d also like an end to Brexit and rejoin the EU

squashyhat · 20/10/2022 15:28

Abei · 20/10/2022 14:58

I won't be voting Tory but I can't vote labour either. A new party is needed.

Lib Dems or Greens?

Stars71 · 20/10/2022 15:29

Newcatbrowntail · 20/10/2022 15:27

I’d also like an end to Brexit and rejoin the EU

That is never going to happen and rightly so.

Exasperatednow · 20/10/2022 15:29

Floating voter and given the sneering response I got to a letter ftom my Tory MP today, its high unlikely that I'll vote Tory in the foreseeable future. That plus the utter shambles they are

havingabubble · 20/10/2022 15:29

I would seriously considerate, the tories are currently an embarrassment

Chanel05 · 20/10/2022 15:30

I'll be spoiling my ballot at this rate.

They'd be mad to call a general election soon and I highly doubt they'll call it early.

Myunclesmustache · 20/10/2022 15:30

I'd sooner stick pins in my eyes than vote Labour 😮

Kellie45 · 20/10/2022 15:30

mavismorpoth · 20/10/2022 14:59

I agree with you about Blair. I'm curious about the comment on reading manifestos though. Did you read the manifesto for that government and if so did the policies carried out deviate from it much?

Sorry what comment about manifestos?
