Unbelievable.

OP posts:

I would be mortified if either of my DD's dressed like this for a nightclub or prom ... but a fair few Mums are bound to be proud of their daughters wearing this and coo-ing about how 'grown up' they look

Jayne542 · 19/10/2022 21:11

@SmileyClare please tell me on which picture it shows her arse cheek hanging out.

sandytooth · 19/10/2022 21:14

mommatoone · 19/10/2022 21:04

Thats your choice, no problem with that.
But why should someone be judged if they did?

Because its against our company's dress code policy.

sandytooth · 19/10/2022 21:15

sandytooth · 19/10/2022 21:14

Because its against our company's dress code policy.

But I get what you're saying why shouldn't someone wear whatever they like as long as it doesn't reveal genitals.

mommatoone · 19/10/2022 21:16

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 19/10/2022 20:51

They are called OPINIONS. I don't know why YOU are so bothered (and 'arsed') that other people have them.

IM not arsed - i actually couldnt give a shit ,that is my point!

I woudnt be proud of my daughter lookimg grown up. Id be proud of the fact that she can be her own person, confident in herself and not give a shit what people think!

SmileyClare · 19/10/2022 21:21

which picture shows her arse cheek

<sigh> Part of the dress is cut away at the side and she’s wearing no underwear.

Look if you want to explain the merits of applauding 16 year olds wearing this dress to a prom then I’ll happily debate that.
Why are we encouraging our young daughters to emulate this look?

It’s not like living in a dictatorship to stop a child wearing provocative fetish gear, it’s nothing like Iran, it’s being a parent?

slowquickstep · 19/10/2022 21:31

What parent would let their 16 year old out in that ?

ReneBumsWombats · 19/10/2022 21:32

It's a moot point really, but in the first picture you can see the edge of the back part of the skirt. It's a cutaway side (basically wraps around but not all the way) but it shouldn't show any bum cheek. Just hip.

CaronPoivre · 19/10/2022 21:33

It’s not that it reveals skin. It looks incredibly common/cheap/explicitly provocative. It looks awful and I’d have been very disappointed if any of my girls chose to wear something like that. Hugely unflattering and far to old for a child.

StupidSmallFruit · 19/10/2022 18:16

Are people still stuck on women's clothing as a moral issue in 2022?

It is not a ‘moral issue’, but likewise is not empowering to go out in a dress that barely covers you.

We know this for a stone cold fact, because men don’t do it. Don’t need to do it. Don’t want to do it.

They cover themselves up, because that’s the function of clothing.

It is a complete and utter double standard that men get to just ‘be’ in normal clothes - that make them look good, attractive, even sexy. While women basically get naked.

I’m not for one minute saying women need to cover up. But the absolute double standard in the way some young women present is the elephant in the room.

Ask yourself why your son isn’t rushing to go for a night out in a non-existent top, and skimpy shorts slashed up to his waist.

@StupidSmallFruit Totally agree with you

There's nothing empowering about dressing like a stripper (of which vast majority are women exploited by men)

MimosaSunrise · 19/10/2022 21:45

@StupidSmallFruit - agree with your comments on here. It seems that people can’t tell the difference between judging the person wearing the clothes (which the ‘tarty’ comments do and which is sad to see in 2022) and judging the disturbing pornification of society, which this dress is a glaring example of.

I agree that the choice of dress says nothing about the wearer’s character or worth, but it isn’t neutral either. No self-expression, as a pp put it, is. Our choices are influenced by external factors, they don’t come fully formed out of nowhere, free from context.

It’s also not a choice between Iran, where not complying with dress codes can get young teenagers murdered, or completely uncritical approval of all clothing.

I don't know, but it's not a good look. You don't see men going out on a night time in a string vest and a thong. Or skin tight see-through jeggings and nipple tassles.

Yet THIS kind of look is promoted for young women right now. I am no prude, but I think they all look fucking hideous The 'dresses' are minging and the women look dreadful. The saying 'less is more' springs to mind.

I noticed on Love Island this year that some of the young women on there were wearing dresses that only covered about a third of their breasts. Virtually only the nipples were covered sometimes. And the length was about an inch or two below their labia.

As I say, I am not a prude, and I have worn many a mini skirt in my day (got a good pair of pins on me!) but the length was 3-6" above my knee, not 1-2" below my labia. Utterly grim. This kind of look suits NO-ONE.

Here's a few ghastly examples of 'fashion' for young women right now. They clearly think they look 'sexy.' They don't!

Those are very, very ugly dresses.

Jayne542 · 19/10/2022 21:49

@SmileyClare
<sigh>
Whose arse is on the side of their body?
Her bum is COMPLETELY covered.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/10/2022 21:53

Well, I don’t like it but it’s personal taste. Someone else might, and good luck to them.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 19/10/2022 21:56

Emotionalsupportviper · 19/10/2022 20:58

Agree - excellent article.

Also agree. Excellent article.

MRSE20 · 19/10/2022 21:57

I wore a puffy floor length dress for my prom 11 years ago, I can’t imagine people wear this to prom, maybe it was advertised like that but surely not? Maybe an after party

Honestly I say good luck to those who want to wear this, I have been body conscious my whole life and when I see girls with these dresses all done up I feel happy for them.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 19/10/2022 21:59

mommatoone · 19/10/2022 21:00

So what is a time and place to wear that outfit? Who makes the rules on that then 🤔.
Im not naive at all, i just live in the real world ,and think its disgusting that our young girls are being judged on what they wear.

I think you are extremely naive. The whole point of that dress is to be judged for wearing it.

Ponoka7 · 19/10/2022 22:00

Glitterspy · 19/10/2022 20:45

She looks like she has trapped wind and desperately needs to find a toilet with that pose.

I wore a very tight, small asymmetric dress to my “prom” (pre millennium so it was called a Ball), I don’t think slaggy dresses are unique to this generation!

What makes a woman a slag? Can clothing make a woman a slag? How does a article of clothing become a slag? You need to rethink your terminology. You sound like a rape defense lawyer from previous times, who would bring up what the victim was wearing, because it meant that she was asking for it.

Fairislefandango · 19/10/2022 22:04

I mean... I think it's horrible and looks ridiculous, and I wouldn't be seen dead in a dress like that even if I were 18 and had an amazing figure, but obviously women can wear what they want. I wouldn't be keen on any 16yo of mine going out like that tbh. Dd is kind of at the other end of the scale and wants to wear a tuxedo !

42isthemeaning · 19/10/2022 22:28

@Bernadinetta

ODFOD right back at you!
You've made a lot of assumptions there yourself!

Sex, probably.
