Are people still stuck on women's clothing as a moral issue in 2022?

It is not a ‘moral issue’, but likewise is not empowering to go out in a dress that barely covers you.

We know this for a stone cold fact, because men don’t do it. Don’t need to do it. Don’t want to do it.

They cover themselves up, because that’s the function of clothing.

It is a complete and utter double standard that men get to just ‘be’ in normal clothes - that make them look good, attractive, even sexy. While women basically get naked.

I’m not for one minute saying women need to cover up. But the absolute double standard in the way some young women present is the elephant in the room.

Ask yourself why your son isn’t rushing to go for a night out in a non-existent top, and skimpy shorts slashed up to his waist.

I've seen worse.

So you would not give her advice about taking drugs , working as a prostitute or trying to get a good career? It's all up to her?

Come on, it’s not the same, is it? Of course I would, if there were long term serious consequences to her choices… but would I impose my own taste on her / give her the impression that it’s ok for women to belittle other women with misogynistic language… nope.

My dd wouldn’t take her hoodie off though, so it’s all academic.

VladmirsPoutine · 19/10/2022 18:18

Is this a dress you've placed for listing but feel a bit miffed it hasn't had much interest?

NoYouSirName · 19/10/2022 18:18

😂😂😂 massive assumptions there! I’ve never been a cook anything in my life!

Eatmycake3333 · 19/10/2022 18:19

I wouldn’t even get that up my right leg! 😂. Seriously no child of mine would be wearing that to a prom

NoYouSirName · 19/10/2022 18:19

Cool, that is

DemoBourbon · 19/10/2022 18:19

Did anyone else read the Facebook listing in a Scottish accent?

Grendalsmum · 19/10/2022 18:19

I'm weirdly fascinated by the pine bannisters front and center of one of the photos. Why? Is bannister porn a thing now? Dress looks a bit drafty and everything would fall out if you bent down but with a big jumper and some leggings it would probably be fine.

Mountainhike · 19/10/2022 18:19

Our school prom was 20 years ago but one girl wore a dress just like this in black. It was the talk of the school for a good few days after.

It's not empowering to have your clothing choices policed and moralised because you're a woman.

Clothing is partly practical and partly self expression. That's why people have an interest in fashion.

Women can wear what they like. It says nothing about their worth, character or human decency. If people were less moralistic and policing about clothing choices, perhaps more men would wear revealing outfits. Perhaps more women would too.

If you've got a problem with not enough men in miniskirts, it's not a failure of women.

crosstalk · 19/10/2022 18:27

I don't think it suits the professional model and would need to be properly fitted to get the ties fittting and not bulging - you can see the model's lumps and bumps and she's slim.

FindingMeno · 19/10/2022 18:28

Don't understand the issue myself.

StupidSmallFruit · 19/10/2022 18:32

I don’t have a problem with ‘not enough men in miniskirts’ - quite the opposite.

I just don’t understand how people can’t see the patriarchal double standards and inherent misogyny in women’s ‘currency’ being their bodies, and men’s currency being their brains.

There’s a reason you don’t see men dressing in the sorts of male equivalent outfits. They don’t want to, and they don’t need to.

ladycarlotta · 19/10/2022 16:12

I reckon they've just put a bunch of keywords in the title to get views. Anyway, why does it matter?

Precisely this. This is the kind of post my mum would make, completely unaware of how people list things for sale online 😂

Strawberrybelli · 19/10/2022 18:34

I don't see the issue, I thought it was going to be a lot worse.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 19/10/2022 18:38

It's the spelling mistake that offends me the most.

Emotionalsupportviper · 19/10/2022 18:41

Bliddy awful!

And for 20 quid the material is going to be sh*te, too. Anyone wearing that will be a vision in polyester.

Worthyornot · 19/10/2022 18:43

So trashy and cheap.

CarefreeMe · 19/10/2022 18:45

The sellers always put lots of words in it to get more of an audience.

I don’t think anyone would actually wear that to prom.

Interesting that it comes in XL - whoops, my mistake, XL is in fact a 10 !!

SmileyClare · 19/10/2022 18:48

We’re not talking about women being empowered by clothing, this is a discussion about the suitability of fetish dress with clearly no underwear being worn by a 16 year old child to a school prom.

How ridiculous to claim you wouldn’t have an issue with your child wearing it. I don’t believe that for a second.

Roughly the size of one of my legs, then.
