Unbelievable.

I think it’s cheap and tarty looking, and there is a middle ground between a “massive bridesmaid dress) and something like this.

Don't wear it then.

On the other hand, I think wearing long dresses for proms is old-fashioned and makes girls look a bit frumpy.

I don’t think something like this is frumpy at all. It’s a shame if girls think that anything not super revealing is by definition frumpy.

I'd wear that at 52, but I don't know any 16yo who'd think it was suitable for their prom

Bintymcbintface · 19/10/2022 17:46

Somebody that wants to? That was easy

antelopevalley · 19/10/2022 17:46

Seriously who would let their 16 year old dressed like that!!

grayhairdontcare · 19/10/2022 17:47

Why can't people wear what they want ?
Why would that make them Tarty?
Jesus Christ, women really love ripping other women to shreds.

pinheadlarry · 19/10/2022 17:47

Its an ugly dress but im sure some people like it

SageRosemary · 19/10/2022 17:50

tulips27 · 19/10/2022 16:43

I think the problem is you couldn't wear knickers with it so it would be risky to say the least, especially round guys that age.

And, in the same way that you wouldn't buy second hand knickers, you wouldn't buy a second hand dress that requires you to go knickers free. 🤑

Onlyforcake · 19/10/2022 17:55

Meh. Who knows prom is a relatively new thing snd for 15/ 16 year old. My view of fashion or dressing up has no place being imposed on teenagers

NoYouSirName · 19/10/2022 17:55

It may not be to your taste (or mine) but people can wear wtf they like. ‘Cheap and tarty looking’?! Judgemental, much! Stop shaming other women for their choices about personal presentation. They might not like what you wear either, why is your preference the right one?!

Incredibly frumpy for a 16 year old!!
Look. Are you over the age of 19? If so, anything you think is nice will probably be frumpy to a mid teen. That’s the whole point!

I think the suggestion of almost showing your fanny off in public is probably what has prompted the tarty comments.

Me 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Because I don’t shame her or dictate her choices over her own body.

ghostyslovesheets · 19/10/2022 18:00

Tarty? Stop giving such negative labels to young women because of their clothing

Agree - it doesn't reflect well on a person's choices or attitude.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 19/10/2022 18:03

She'll end up a martyr to lumbago....

Needs a nice thick vest underneath

So you would not give her advice about taking drugs , working as a prostitute or trying to get a good career? It's all up to her?

georgarina · 19/10/2022 18:08

I would never have been allowed to wear that at my school!

StupidSmallFruit · 19/10/2022 18:08

Without exception, every single girl dressed for a prom, ball, formal or leavers dance I’ve seen this year - and I’ve got friends on FB with teens across the UK, Ireland, NZ, OZ and the US - all of them have worn longe sleeveless dresses like the green one posted by the OP.

I haven’t seen a single girl dressed in anything remotely comparable to the dress in the OP.

I don’t get why the OP has started the thread, because frankly who cares what people are buying and selling on FB, and the OP’s daughter certainly doesn’t have to wear it.

But trying to make out that girls wearing floor length dresses to end of year dances is ‘frumpy’, is ridiculous.

Is that a joke? This isn’t a body “shaming”issue, it’s encouraging your child to go out in a sexually provocative outfit with no underwear on and half her arse out. I doubt they’re sexually active and understand nothing about fetish wear.

Be a parent instead trying to be a cool mum.

What on earth does a dress choice say about a person's (by which you obviously mean "woman's") attitude?

It says that she likes wearing revealing clothes. So what? It says nothing about her kindness, her decency, her compassion or how she treats other people. Are people still stuck on women's clothing as a moral issue in 2022? Hardly the sign of a strong moral compass.

Cameleongirl · 19/10/2022 18:09

DD's (17) school won't allow them to wear really skimpy dresses so she couldn't wear that even if she wanted to.

A 16 year old isn’t a woman.

HighlandPony · 19/10/2022 18:14

We don’t have ‘prom’ here but plenty would wear that to the school disco. Which is effectively the same thing. I think for my last one I wore one of my dads shirts half unbuttoned with a belt round it as a dress with a corset underneath and cowboy boots (showing my age)

StapFooterin · 19/10/2022 18:15

GlassesWearer · 19/10/2022 16:26

If I had a body like that then I would wear dresses like that 24/7.

Yeah, me too! Sadly I'd look like a string of sausages in it😅
