Dear Lord above, I've seen people removed and banned from pubs for less. She's the Home Secretary. What have we come to?

She’s not a “hire” of any kind. She’s been democratically elected three times with a majority of almost half of the votes cast.

A female only shortlist is not "democratically elected". If half the population is not allowed to engage with the process, how is that too fair?
A diversity hire

She’s been democratically elected three timed by her constituents. How much democracy do you want?

TheGhostOfLiz · 20/10/2022 14:45

Yeah, the anti-Rayner stuff is getting weird now.

Ashton-under-Lyme did not have an all female 'shortlist' for the 3 elections that she won. That's just plain not true.

Very weird. Feel free to not like her but stop it with the lies.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 20/10/2022 14:57

She’s an odious cunt hope she fucks off out of politics and has to take a job at aldi like a normal person. I eat tofu because it’s cheaper than meat and because of her party’s fuckery I have to prioritize other things, not because I’m some ‘woke’ person. She’s so behind the times, old fashioned and crusty, feel sorry for her toddler who has to be raised by someone stuck in 1995 and who’s a massive bellend at that as well.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 20/10/2022 14:58

It’s Ashton under Lyne

Yes, nothing to do with her being a female that came from nothing to something through hard work and ambition.

Love her or hate her, you can’t deny she made something of herself. Odious, stuck up people Tory living idiots just hate it despite supposedly being all about progressing through personal gumption.

What has she achieved? The type of people that many conservatives admire have started businesses and created good quality jobs.
She married some guy who was high-up in a public sector union and was parachuted into a safe seat.
Good luck to her, but it's just the hypocrisy of people on here saying that Suella Braverman isn't upto it or was promoted beyond her capabilities that makes you laugh when you think of the likes of Rayner.

Braverman had every advantage - private education, Oxbridge, the Sorbonne. Rayner dragged herself up from nothing. I know which I admire most.

She was chosen as candidate from an all female shortlist of 3 for the safe seat of Ashton under Lyne. Labour does not lose in Ashton.
She did not have to compete with men or local Labour party members who have campaigned in the area for many years.

Blossomtoes · 20/10/2022 15:15

She did compete with local party members. She was chosen from a shortlist of six women, including a councillor. She won that seat fair and square. You’ve even provided a link that proves it! 😂

TheGhostOfLiz · 20/10/2022 15:18

Anyone slse starting to think one of the men rejected for that shortlist might be posting on here? Grin

PerkingFaintly · 19/10/2022 17:44

I'm now giggling hysterically.

When I wake up this will all have been a dream, right?

I've woken up – and it was all a dream!Grin A horrible fevered nightmare that Liz Truss was Prime Minister and had crashed the pound.

Erm, that last bit was a dream too right?

newnamethanks · 20/10/2022 16:16

Relax Perking. The Tory party is entrusting the dimwits who selected May, ditched as not up to it, BigDog ditched for being a lying so and so, and also Truss, ditched as not up to it. They'll be picking the next unsuitable incompetent very soon. The Dream continues. Sorry.

I reckon some would prefer a dimwit with a posh accent 😂

PPs are so negative. Liz has courageously set the basis for huge economic growth, reduction in inflation and cutting of mortgage interest rates from the current adverse and likely short-term worse levels. Britannia unchanged,

pointythings · 21/10/2022 09:31

Giving jwg a run for her money, I see.

Lunde · 21/10/2022 10:03

The Tories seem to have lost the plot and have no ideas

Having got rid of LT after 45 days of chaos, incompetence and crashing the economy they seek salvation in BJ who was previously ditched as a pathological liar who broke the laws that he had himself enacted on the population

newnamethanks · 21/10/2022 11:15

I've just completely absolutely 100% had enough of this. I usually quite enjoy following a bit of political drama, but this is just all beyond enough. I had about 10 seconds of hope that the Tories had seen sense and would elect a serious politician as leader after Truss resigned, then Boris announced he was throwing his hat in the ring. I've just had enough of the drama, it's like a soap opera, all the while the country is going to shit. I only hope the decent people of the Tory party (what's left of them) see sense and put the country first for once, that so many are still backing Johnson is shameful.

Good try. But actually, it's not.

paintitallover · 21/10/2022 13:31

@Hayliebells Not only shameful but an indication of the calibre of those voters. I think there are fewer of them that we're led to believe, though.

Zilla1 · 21/10/2022 13:41

Horrible muck raking by the media pointing out how Conservative members had no checking so memberships were created in the names of Margaret Thatcher's maiden name and a pet tortoise. When challenged about the risks, the party rightly responded the Monarch appoints the PM so no risk of foreign powers taking a punt with a few thousand members to tip an election as the members have a Monarch in the way.

citroenpresse · 21/10/2022 14:04

@Zilla1 The Tory's Elections Act has stripped at least 2 million from the electoral roll because of not having photo ID, even though there's been no risk of impersonation according to the independent electoral body. Which is also, due to the Elections Act, going to become less independent. Overseas voter registration is unwieldy and time consuming but that's now going to become more opaque....seeing a theme here yet? Every other party subjects their membership list to independent scrutiny except the Tories.
