Boris held out against immense pressure for a 3rd lockdown at the end of last year.

I believe it was Sunak who led the charge to prevent a 3rd lock down. Johnson had decided he would but was talked out of it under pressure from Sunak.

Volterra · 21/10/2022 08:18

Beth Rigby said 7.45am the Sky spreadsheet has Johnson 37, Mourdant 16 and Sunak 42 so slightly different numbers to the ones you have @RedToothBrush .
My MP is backing Mourdant and I’m worried about which way he will go if she drops out so about to find his contact details, we’ve recently moved.

AnyFucker · 21/10/2022 08:19

That may be so, but he was the one in charge and he took the advice from his chancellor.

sunnydaytoday0 · 21/10/2022 08:28

Whoever wins will need to bring the party together. I'm not sure any of them can do that.

How can any Conservative MP can be blind to the pressures facing people ?

Inflation is in double figures, food inflation is probably higher on a lot of products or it certainly appears that way.
Petrol/diesel prices are still high.
Energy bills have gone up and now the cap is only going to last until April.
Interest rates have jumped due to the ridiculous mini-budget, I appreciate they will probably have risen even without it, but not that high or as quickly.

Its the combination of all of the above, not just one price increase, but everything going up in price at the same time.

They live in a Manor, they have a nanny, they inherited a fortune and they have servants and aides to deal with housework or constituency matters.

Maybe?

BirmaBrite · 21/10/2022 08:38

I think the thing that suprised me about MP's, was how many of them have no connection to the area they are representing, is this a new thing or has this always largely been the case ?

sunnydaytoday0 · 21/10/2022 08:41

Braverman making a statement later today over whether she'll run. If she did that could peel away some support from Johnson.

Johnson 47
Sunak 32
Mordaunt 15

Rees-Mogg officially Team Johnson

In fairness Team Johnson backed Truss because they thought Sunak was a backstabber who was responsible for ousting Johnson in the first place.

DH has been saying since he went, he'd have another shot at PM. He's really unsurprised.

I have said from the start, that they backed truss as they knew she would fuck it up, and be the cautionary tale - "see we weren't so bad after all". Anyone will seem reasonable and measured after truss.

They have basically played a game with the uk public. Causing misery by trashing the markets, to make a point.

mrshoho · 21/10/2022 09:12

The way so many in the Conservative party treat it as a game is what I find most despicable. I can barely listen to these people now. They are so well cushioned and removed from the real hardships other ordinary folk are going through. I feel the same with hedge fund and investment managers. It is rotten to the core. The key workers who were applauded have been shafted.

sunnydaytoday0 · 21/10/2022 09:13

I hope someone's going to look into the claim made by one of the panellists on Question Time about someone able to register fictitious people for the tory vote as party members?

They were talking about this on Radio 4 as I drove to work this morning. It’s shocking that there are no checks at all to ensure the members even exist!

ILeclercreturn · 21/10/2022 09:19

Hedge funds and investments are the reason the government is playing a little game as EVERY new 'revelation' causes the market values to fluctuate either up or down and as they know when the announcements will be made they can 'bet' and make a profit whether it goes up OR down.

They just don't care. Party before people. NONE of them are considering the national interest now. All they care about is the party, and themselves.

IrisVersicolor · 21/10/2022 09:19

They don’t even have to be based in the U.K.

Reminder from Led by Donkeys

Conservative MPs, this is what you’d be voting for

LizzieSiddal · 21/10/2022 09:20

Think I’m going to sign up to the Conservative Party and using the name Joris Bohnson from LaLa Land.

Come on MN, let’s all do it and show the world what a fiasco this is.

mrshoho · 21/10/2022 09:22

It makes the membership vote a mockery. Russia etc don't need clever IT systems to infiltrate the Conservative party do they!

SleeplessInEngland · 21/10/2022 09:24

Johnson has secured the all-important Rees-Mogg endorsement. Now on tenterhooks to see who Nadine Dorries will support...

Georgieporgie29 · 21/10/2022 09:25

Where can I look to find out who the mp’s are supporting?

Here's where we are on latest public declarations of support for Tory leadership contest

Rishi Sunak - 44

Boris Johnson - 26

Penny Mordaunt - 15

This is just what we can see publicly - Boris Johnson's backers say he's got over 50, Sunak & Mordaunt expect big numbers today

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2022 09:29

Nadine might surprise us ..

MPs can be blind as they have generous expenses allowances. Petrol, food and energy nicely taken care of for them.

Are you out of your mind? Our Conservative MP certainly does not live in a manor! Grow up!
