But that's the problem. Listen to her tone. Voters hear it and don't like it

You might not. I'm a voter whose opinion carries the same weight as yours and I think she's great.

Strange how something so dysfunctional can move to another level of dysfunctionality. And I fear the summit is probably still not in sight.

however ignoring the real world impacts of our current dystopia more positive news for opposition parties. Boris for one, and I see Farage is making noises, so a UKIP 2.0 or whatever he may call it offers a potential future split in the right wing vote.

boys3 · 20/10/2022 23:22

More importantly @sunnydaytoday0 what title are you going to give the thread to follow this one?

The Tory Party is trapped in the drama triangle.

@RedToothBrush 😀 although is there a headless chicken emoji?

semi-seriously all their talk of unity shows a spectacular reality detachment

Now this is a bit out of left-field but their best bet, using their current majority, might be to surprise us all and legislate for full electoral reform. PR. Then they can happily split into the One Nation Party, and then the Bakers, Bravemans, JRMs and assorted other ideological fundamentalists could form the Extreme Libertarian and Complete Fuckwit Party. Granted the Electoral Commission might have some views on whether the full title could be printed on a ballot paper. However a number of solvent manufacturers have not yet sniffed at the prospect of backing them.

Nadine would obviously create a new third way with a Bring Back Boris party. It / she would stand a candidate, always called Nadine, at every available by-election.

so whilst removed forever as a party of government some of them could through PR still hope for a role in a broader future coalition if they were lucky.

Perhaps there really is a Brexit Dividend. An awfully expensive one, however the self-destruction and electoral evisceration of the Conservative Party could possibly be seen as such.

If they bring Johnson back the Conservative party are finished in this country for an entire generation. This will end badly for them. The man cannot govern. Hence why he was sacked. People surely can't be okay with this. They just can't. It's plain wrong.

But it wasn’t the voting public that ousted Boris Johnson, it was the people in his government who didn’t like him and wanted him gone.

I actually think the Tories would have a good chance of winning a GE with Boris as leader.

sunnydaytoday0 · 20/10/2022 23:52

Johnson might be in the lead getting a lot of votes from those coming out early declaring their support, but I think his ceiling of support is probably going to be much lower than for Sunak. But then again if he does manage to hit 100 then it's all over regardless of anything else that happens.

All those young people who had their education disrupted through their exams have or are turning 18 and eligible to vote. I don't know any that will vote conservative following the crap they had to put up with. Both Johnson and Sunak are implicated in those fuck ups. So putting either in charge is obviously going to persuade the young people to vote for them.Hmm

Ben Riley-Smith
EXCLUSIVE
.
Boris Johnson is privately urging Rishi Sunak to join forces with him in a remarkable olive branch to his foe.
Ally of Boris tells Telegraph: “If the Tories are serious about winning in 2024 + want to stop a general election before then they need to revert to the guy with a mandate who is a seasoned campaigner. They need someone to take the fight to Labour. There’s no point going to a yellow box junction without knowing how you are going to get out of it. Rishi should make contact + work out how the two of them can get back together.”

Oh ffs. It just gets better and better. I hope these two don’t kiss and make up.

Ugh me too - it would be like a really awful surreal version of Groundhog Day if they both got back in. It seems unlikely, but strangely I also feel like it could just happen.

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2022 03:36

Boris Johnson looks the forgiving type and Rishi sunak might be desperate enough to do it to get back into the cabinet
Would he surreal though

CheshireDing · 21/10/2022 04:35

Trump became President of the US. I can well see Johnson coming back

After how he handled Covid letting children go back to school for 1 fucking day and mix with 60 others after spending Christmas NOT mixing Boris is an absolute joke

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2022 04:52

The very perplexed Conservative man on QT last night was saying about the conservative track record
how good it's been and how having a low unemployment rate wasnt mentioned enough Not to mention getting brexit done, the energy crisis bill. He Didn't mention the vaccine roll out, but you get the picture
It sounded great.
Why don't they call a General election then ?
Why not say to the electorate that despite everything how wonderful its been and let us all decide ? Why are they running scared of this?
If they believe they have done good things they would win it easily no ?

Zonder · 21/10/2022 06:39

The very perplexed man on QT last night must live in an interesting world! It's not the same one I live in.

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2022 06:47

Graham Stewart was on QT last night , energy minister
He was surprised that people can't see how good the last 12 years have been !!
Again , if it's a utopia that we don't appreciate, then just put to a public vote

romatheroamer · 21/10/2022 06:52

Which is exactly what Jess Phillips said to him...if you've done so well, why are you afraid of an election?

Zonder · 21/10/2022 06:57

He was surprised that people can't see how good the last 12 years have been !!

Probably because it has been very good for some Tory MPs and their rich friends.

If you mean about locking down and schools closing, wasn’t Boris originally against this?
Most if the world had or was going into lockdowns too.
There was immense pressure in the UK government to lockdown.
To be fair to them they were in an impossible position.

Johnson was into lockdowns, albeit at least a week too late.

There seems to be a group of people online who now think lockdowns were a terrible, avoidable idea that everyone hated, but that’s revisionism. As a policy it was always - both times - popular with voters.

AnyFucker · 21/10/2022 07:15

Boris held out against immense pressure for a 3rd lockdown at the end of last year.

Well the energy bill hasn’t been sorted out really. Only until April. Then many millions of us lower earners but who don’t qualify for benefits will be fucked.
Just like the Truss and Kwerteng fucked my mortgage up over night. Mortgage deal coming to an end and now paying £200 a month extra.
The financial damage is done. It’s not going to reverse as quickly. The banks panicked and rose interest rates. They ain’t going back Tom their original rates any time soon.
I have to find an extra £200 a month that I haven’t got because of a mini budget that didn’t have to happen. Many of us are fucked financially because of Truss and her chancellor.
If any one on here voted for Truss I’m sorry but you’re fucking scum- and now they’re acting shocked and surprised. She did what she said she’d do. So please fuck off and don’t pretend you’re not responsible.

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2022 07:19

Lockdowns became increasingly unpopular which is why 99 or near there MPs voted against restrictive legislation but it took Labour to get it through

Agree by the time omicron came about it took holding against immense pressure and yes some were demanding it but they got it right not to do it.

RedToothBrush · 21/10/2022 07:51

Early morning update

Johnson 52
Sunak 41
Mordaunt 17

My suspicion is that not all Mordaunt supporters will have officially cast ballots. At least a few are likely to jump ship at the last minute if they think it will help get Johnson or Sunak over the line if they aren't there already.

It very much looks like the final two are already a done deal.
