Or maybe Tuesday at the latest? Would she really want to face the absolute public humiliation of PMQs on Wednesday?

That interview was awful and she looks genuinely unwell now. I think she’s toast but from today I think it’s in her own interest to go before she damages her health irreparably. There is a level of delusion here (eg leading country into next election claim) that everyone knows just won’t happen.

Fantastic news - guaranteed major defeat

The only glimmer of hope is that Truss, will stay on and bring about a catastrophic loss for the Tories.

BirmaBrite · 17/10/2022 22:16

@EmmaH2022 Captured by...?

Faux conservatives, people who do well if the people in power do what they want, and they couldn't give a flying fuck about the vast majority of the electorate, which is who those in power are paid to represent, not the 1%, but the 99%. Not who voted for you to become an MP, but your entire constituency. Often forgotten, but true.

I actually thought she seemed OK. Better than I thought earlier. She has never been a particularly good speaker but she came across pretty much as normal.

She clearly isn't intending to go. I wonder how long the Tories will be willing to leave her there.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 22:25

They don't want a GE. So it's a case of rebooting LT and hope it blows over

vera99 · 17/10/2022 22:25

That Times article was spot on a Brexit fanatical cult in total denial of reality.

Wheresthebeach · 17/10/2022 22:27

Don’t get me wrong - the Tories have done nothing to help women, and this economic shit show is an utter disaster for the country. I’m saying that self ID will be ruinous for women and every woman should be writing to their Labour MP saying so. Shout loud and long about it. Imagine day to day life if any man, at any given moment can enter washrooms, changing rooms and expose themselves while happily announcing they are a woman, and women have penises.

Haffiana · 17/10/2022 22:27

That Times article is very interesting. I think the only thing that can keep the Conservative Party going is the fact that people just cannot allow themselves to admit that Brexit was the biggest mistake - the catalyst that led to Boris's majority, to Truss and further economic downfall.

It isn't just the Conservative Party that is in the trapped by dogma. The other half of the equation is Brexit voters that supported them. They cannot allow themselves to take any responsibility for that, any more than Liz Truss and her -majority after all - faction of the Party.

vera99 · 17/10/2022 22:28

Today's stat: Liz Truss has a 26% approval rating among Conservative party members who voted for Liz Truss

Bunnycat101 · 17/10/2022 22:30

MrsBennetsPoorNerves focus on her eyes. The level of blinking suggests something is going on.

Wheresthebeach · 17/10/2022 22:34

Sadly they will do everything possible to convince the public that its Covid and the war in Ukraine rather than Brexit to blame. Admitting a mistake of this size isn’t something they’ll do, nor will a lot of Brexit voters

Booklover3 · 17/10/2022 22:38

She’s going nowhere unless she’s forced or dragged out. I very much doubt she will resign. I also don’t think the Tories will do a proper number on her because it will look very bad for them. They’ll just stand in the background pulling her strings. She will be PM in name only for the duration.

The TORIES are responsible for Brexit. The Tories are responsible for the Brexit negotiations and our current economic shit show. That's all on the Tories. The Tories are meant to be the party that can be trusted economically, now look what Truss did in her first three weeks. She TANKED the economy.

The Tories are responsible for the working poor, food banks, Dickensian levels of child poverty and utter disdain for the poor and sick. The first thing Truss does is tax favours for the wealthy when the majority of the country are wondering how they're going to pay their extortionate energy bill and ever increasing food bills.

I feel incandescent, yet people are still voting for these people expecting them to act with integrity. There are even calls for that craven liar Johnson to come back. You couldn't make it up.

@vera99 Wow, that stat is staggering. How dim can you be?

Maggiethecat · 17/10/2022 22:53

@vera99 - Ironic that via JH they’ve ended up with some of RS’s policies.

Do they feel complete and utter fools?

Mellowday · 17/10/2022 23:04

I wonder if they have put her on meds and told her what to do ie hold it togetger but she wont have power in a real sense. . To avoid more disruption to the party ( ie avoiding the need for a new pm ) .

Haffiana · 17/10/2022 23:11

Wow. Even The Daily Mail have turned against her. Tomorrows front page:

😂That's terrific. Should've voted for the brown man after all.

No, I reckon some of the Tory right wingers would rather have an incompetent white woman in charge than a competent brown one. They probably just put her incompetence down to the fact that she's a woman.

Johnson is very bright, he just pretends to be thick. Truss is thick.

Johnson is bright and charismatic but inattentive, he was not PM material, especially during a national emergency. I don't feel the visceral hatred towards him that many seem to, but he ought never to have left the back benches.

sorry its behind the paywall; read it in a hard copy (shows my age) - if anyone can access it in full it sums up the Truss rationale perfectly

Very true.

Everything has just gotten far worse in the UK since Brexit, we may have had a slow decline before but since 2016, its been on steroids.
