Will Liz Truss resign today?

sunnydaytoday0 · 17/10/2022 01:00

Or maybe Tuesday at the latest? Would she really want to face the absolute public humiliation of PMQs on Wednesday?

The £115k a year needs to be scrapped. At a time when others are fearing the loss of their pensions, it is a complete disgrace.

FWIW, I think the only Tory politician capable of taking over the mess left by Boris was Sajid Javid. I'm not a fan of the Tories generally but I've worked in the NHS for 30 years and I think he had some good ideas. Shame that his joined up IT services plans won't come to fruition now.

I have been wondering if Javid will be one of the MP’s to step forward to save the Tories

There's a lot of anger in some places that HS2 was started in London rather than up in the north. Once again we've been forgotten.

Another Londoner agreeing with you. Nonsensical not to start it in the north.

Don’t feel too sorry for her. As with all former PMs she’s now entitled to £115k a year for the rest of her life.

Where did you find out their entitled to £115k forever?

Well the politicians have United us over something 😭

It's actually a bit more than that, I think.

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1991/787/made/data.pdf gives them half their PM salary for life from the date they leave office.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/public-duty-cost-allowance/public-duty-costs-allowance-guidance gives them an addiitonal £115k on top of that for the 'expenses of public life'. Receipts only needed 'on demand'.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 15:00

The ones leaving ( or being pushed out ) should receive a one off bonus of whatever someone on UC receives for a week and told ' this is what the government have decided you can live on '!
Then never be seen again

Thanks! I didn't know this

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 17/10/2022 15:16

I think LT has demonstrated pretty effectively that she can best serve the public interest by staying well away from public life... perhaps we can pay her to do that?

Considering she's hiding away and Hunt seems to be in charge, I'd say that IS what we're doin at the moment Grin

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 15:20

She's in a fridge at Chequers

sunnydaytoday0 · 17/10/2022 15:22

A new poll is being relased at 5pm today, the results of which have been described as the most "jaw-dropping" ever seen..

Yes, it would seem so!!

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 15:24

What does the jaw dropping the poll say
' do you want a general election ' ??

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 15:26

They are having a bash tonight to celebrate the bankers cap not being removed !
Hurrah

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 17/10/2022 15:26

At the moment then we're supporting John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson and probably Liz Truss in the next few days on £115k per year. Do you think it was ever envisaged that we might have 7 living former prime ministers at any one time? Time to revise this payment! PMs are generally younger and people in general are living longer, not to mention that if the Tories carry on like this then we'll have had another 3 or 4 by 2024.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 17/10/2022 15:28

A normal voter intention poll.

From a polling aggregator on twitter

"I might finally be running out of superlatives.
This is the most jaw-dropping set off figures, not limited to just voting intention, that I have ever seen. You're not going to want to miss this one."

And they are getting younger!

Truss is 47. If she lives another 40 years and gets the pension + expenses for that time, she will be costing us up to £8m after just 6 weeks 'work'.

Bloody hell.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 15:31

Considering that Mr T Blair has a property portfolio that would make a Russian Oligarch blush , maybe his payments per annum should be removed ?
Truss shouldn't get anything if she goes
Cameron spent his one on a shepherd hut

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 17/10/2022 15:32

Is the poll worse than the 137 seat prediction for the Tories that was being talked about this morning?

She can't be allowed to claim that, surely.

They should all be removed. These days, there is £££££ available on the speaking market and many PMs go on to earn far more post post-premiership than they did in post. The idea of topping this up with (to them) petty cash in the form of hundreds of thousands of pounds of cost to the taxpayer is just daft.

Can only presume that it must be... though I can't really see how it could get much worse tbh. Awaiting with interest!!

If they can genuinely demonstrate that their contributions are adding value to public life, then I think it's fair enough. However, I suspect that few would actually be able to evidence this contribution.

I also think it's fair enough for them to get some sort of pension once they're out of office, but I do think that there needs to be a minimum qualifying period e.g. at least 2 years. It is absurd to think that LT could claim a full and generous pension when she has literally given no service to the country at all.
