AIBU?
What exactly is wrong with people today?
FelicityFlops · 16/10/2022 20:51
Constant posts about "over-entitled" children - why do parents not set boundaries.
Everyone seems to have "anxiety" - wanting to do your best in a job of at an interview is normal.
Climate change, yes, this is important, so look at how much the internet has an influence.
Cost of food, stop buying at supermarkets. Get to know your local providers. Definitely stop buying ready meals and cook your own.
Nobody owes you a living and the current government definitely will not bail you out. Stop relying on the 1997 to 2010 run of idiot "socialists" that knackered the country, sold off our gold reserves and created this total mess!
Get educated, if you are intelligent. Learn a skill or trade. Allegedly there are loads of opportunities.
A house is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Where, in any economic theory, does it state that property values must rise?
Or just be a grumpy old lady, like me?
Am I being unreasonable?

Sincerely hope this is satire. If it’s not, well, there are no words really.

Nothing that happened since 2010 has had any impact. Nosiree. All those terrible socialists dontcha know. Definitely nothing that happened in 2016 that knocked more than 5% off growth and created the worst balance of trade since the war, nope nope nope. All Tony and Gordon. (Tell me OP, what were your predictions for interest rates on US securities in 2000?)
The stories we choose to tell ourselves, eh?

Don't worry you'll have plenty of time to relax soon
FelicityFlops · 16/10/2022 21:03
LOL I am not a boomer, whatever that is.
I have been widowed for nearly 19 years with no pension, apart from my widow's pension and no opportunity to ameliorate the situation as I had to pay off the house.
However, I have never relied upon anyone to "bail me out". Just got on with the job.
MyHamsterIsSmarterThanMe · 16/10/2022 21:06
Some people like to dream of a better world. The others will vote conservative.

You what?! In zone 3 London...ok dear
asdadult · 16/10/2022 21:11
Lidl is the cheapest here. The greengrocer is ten fortunes, as is the butcher.

Lots do.
Everyone seems to have "anxiety" - wanting to do your best in a job of at an interview is normal
Some people have anxiety
Climate change, yes, this is important, so look at how much the internet has an influence
Makes no sense

Lots of people live in cities and lots cook.
Nobody owes you a living and the current government definitely will not bail you out. Stop relying on the 1997 to 2010 run of idiot "socialists" that knackered the country, sold off our gold reserves and created this total mess!
Most people work.
Get educated, if you are intelligent. Learn a skill or trade
Again...lots of people do this
A house is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Where, in any economic theory, does it state that property values must rise?
Who says otherwise.
Blimey....

Exactly.
ghostyslovesheets · 16/10/2022 21:13
is 'get to know your local providers' code for shagging the butcher for cheap stake?
Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 16/10/2022 21:13
"allegedly" so you don't know?
Also, property always rises long term
RedAppleTree · 16/10/2022 21:13
What is it with some posters always promoting Labour?
I'm genuinely interested to hear how they will solve all the current problems? (I don't have any connection to either party)
Gangs, crime, poor educational standards, crap healthcare etc
ghostyslovesheets · 16/10/2022 21:14
or even steak - must edumacate myself better and stop asking Liz to bail me out
Vampirethriller · 16/10/2022 21:15
Local butcher charges nearly £7 for two pork chops. 1kg of haddock in the fishmonger is £14 fucking 98p. I don't buy ready meals. I cook my own. The ingredients I buy from Aldi because they're a far sight cheaper than local providers.

Local providers are cheaper?
Not in my world.
Yeah, this. Sorry, but Lidl/Aldi are tons cheaper than a local farm shop.
A tenner spent in Lidl on all colours of the rainbow fruit and veg, and a bit of meat, will get you a potato and a pork chop in a farm shop.
And all this "cooking everything" can fuck off too. Spend £1.50 on a ready meal that needs a bit of time in the microwave, or spend £15 on ingredients for 4 spag bol meals. Sorry, I like my food, and I don't want to eat the same thing all the time.
You may as well subscribe to Huel if you just want to have the minimum to stay alive.

Gangs - maybe a co-ordinated youth support service like Connexions and proper funding for youth services
Crime - address issues such as a badly funded police force, probation service, services for ex - offenders as well as addressing issues that cause crime such as poverty and addiction
poor educational standards - fair pay and condition to retain teachers, better funding for support in schools, decent buildings
crap healthcare - properly fund the NHS and let people into the country who are qualified to support our lack of trained staff
