To not change the bed sheets immediately…

... because they have a small amount of dried blood on them as my dog is in season.

My partner was furious when he realised that my Shih Tzu had left a small amount of period blood on our bedsheets. (Two dried spots, one the size of a 50p, one the size of a 20p). I was already in bed, tired having retuned from a week working away, and in the first few weeks of pregnancy.

Parter demanded that the sheets should be changed immediately, I said it would be fine til the morning, but if he wanted them changing that badly he should do it himself.

For context the dog is mine, I've had her since before we met and moved in together.

Not sure if I've set up voting or not but ...

YANBU - it's a small amount of dried blood, the sheets can be changed later or he can do it himself

YABU - that's gross, it's your dog, you should change the sheets immediately

No. Most dog owners allow their bitches some dignity. Insane idea.

I always put mine in a nappy during heat.
Its no more undignified than me using Sanpro.

Yes it is. It’s appalling. What’s wrong with getting her spayed? Ours will be straight off to the vet after one litter.

Maybe they will... After one litter. You can't really have a go at others for not spaying when you haven't!

We’re hoping ours is pregnant right now, then it’s off to the vet in the new year. And I wasn’t having a go about not spaying, I was having a go at putting a nappy on the poor thing.

PoseyFlump · 14/10/2022 21:06

Don't call me dear @Blossomtoes. You sound very hypocritical about letting your bitch have a litter and then spaying. What if people want two litters? Or no litters and no spaying? Nice to know you've set the rules for everyone else on what suited you. Convenient.

There are countries where spaying is considered to be surgical mutilation and is not allowed. And they do not have a problem with unwanted dogs. Dear.

It’s illegal to neuter your dog in Norway. Only 7% of dogs in Nordic countries are spayed. Because really we’re giving them a hysterectomy and putting them into menopause, which makes humans feel like shit and is undoubtedly equally shit for dogs. They gain weight and have higher risks of certain cancers and joint disorders, and possible incontinence in later life. I won’t be spaying my dog. I agree - it’s surgical mutilation.

Blossomtoes · 14/10/2022 21:27

I’ll call you whatever I choose within MN rules @PoseyFlump.

SofiaSoFar · 14/10/2022 21:31

I'm finding it hard to believe that people are actually comparing baby sick/poo and breast milk leakage with blood from an in-season dog.

The mind absolutely boggles.

Ponderingwindow · 14/10/2022 21:39

Change the sheets.

More importantly, make an appointment to get your dog spayed.

PoseyFlump · 14/10/2022 21:40

Of course you will dear @Blossomtoes and you'll also tell everyone to spay their bitch after one litter because that's what YOU want the rules to be 😂😂😂

Totally agree. And I have a 13 year old bitch, never spayed, never had any pregnancies, never had any problems with males blah blah. Sick of the 'cut 'em up' brigade.

Brigante9 · 14/10/2022 21:44

On a related note, I cut my hand trying to clean a tin for the recycling tonight (twice in a week!) There is blood on the kitchen roll that I grabbed to stem the flow, I bleed lots then clot quickly. Would you throw out the whole thing because there is dried blood on several ares? It’s an insanely large kitchen roll from Wickes.

They ovulate, yes, but they don't shed their uterine lining after (menstruate/have a period). They go through a whole different cycle of stages. After this bloody discharge stage, they go through the horny stage. OP's dog is going to be frustratedly humping everything, and every male dog in the area is going to be trying to knock down the door to get at her.

Got you. If she’s frustrated, would you not spay her? I’ve only ever very deliberately had males, I can’t be doing with the mess/moods. Even my horse was a gelding.

I don’t give a fuck whether other people have their bitches spayed. Had you bothered to read what I actually said my objection was to people putting their dog in nappies.

Which is weird. Unless you think humans should free bleed too.

Okay then 😂😂

GucciBear · 14/10/2022 21:57

It is unfair to ban the dog from the bed when she is in season - she is not aware that she is! I would ne ver have a dog on the bed or my chairs and sofa. Dog has own chair and bed, That way visitors don't get covered in dog hair.

Lulu45677 · 14/10/2022 22:09

I’ve slept with newborn pee and puke on my bed when exhausted , I just threw a towel over it. But i would find the blood from a dogs vag a step too far…I don’t like dogs and cats though especially in beds I think there full of germs and rub there shitty assholes over everything and it makes me feel sick…

PoseyFlump · 14/10/2022 22:16

The question needs reframing.

You're pregnant and tired. You've just returned from a week working away and you've climbed exhaustedly into bed.

Your partner has noticed the bed sheet has a dry stain on it which occurred while you was away. He is demanding you get out of bed and change the sheet. You think he should do it. What would you do?

Why LTB of course!!

Summerfun54321 · 14/10/2022 22:46

My bed is a no animal blood, no animal anus zone, like all the furniture in my house.

ZiriForEver · 14/10/2022 22:47

It is gross to have dog in bed.

Maybe he isn't totally happy about it, so has very low tolerance for your dog staining the bed not only invisibly, but visibly as well.

No. Most dog owners allow their bitches some dignity. Insane idea.

I guess this is an american thing then. All the breeders I know put their females in cloth onesies or doggy diapers so they don’t bleed everywhere. I’m not sure what is dignifying about your dog bleeding on your furniture and bedding though. But I respect your life decisions.I don’t breed animals so I have no strong opinions on the matter.

PoseyFlump · 13/10/2022 21:59

What about sperm? Do you all immediately change your sheets after having sex?

We must be weird. My husband absolutely insists that we put a towel down for sex. 😂

PoseyFlump · 15/10/2022 07:04

@DaughterofDawn sounds perfectly reasonable to me 😂

Regarding dignity for dogs, that just sounds ridiculous to me, assigning human traits to dogs! My dog wears a pair of pants and a sanitary towel around the home and asks for them to be put on. She likes the fact she doesn't need to be constantly licking herself and is happy and relaxed in them.

Presumably breeders don't bother because the dogs are probably not kept anywhere near soft furnishings. The one I knew had the bitch permanently locked in the kitchen.

Don't you ever move around during sex?
