To not change the bed sheets immediately…

... because they have a small amount of dried blood on them as my dog is in season.

My partner was furious when he realised that my Shih Tzu had left a small amount of period blood on our bedsheets. (Two dried spots, one the size of a 50p, one the size of a 20p). I was already in bed, tired having retuned from a week working away, and in the first few weeks of pregnancy.

Parter demanded that the sheets should be changed immediately, I said it would be fine til the morning, but if he wanted them changing that badly he should do it himself.

For context the dog is mine, I've had her since before we met and moved in together.

Not sure if I've set up voting or not but ...

YANBU - it's a small amount of dried blood, the sheets can be changed later or he can do it himself

YABU - that's gross, it's your dog, you should change the sheets immediately

If you're not fussed and he wants them changed, he should change them.

I would definitely want them changed immediately and I do find that pretty disgusting. But since you aren't arsed and he is, I agree that he should change them

Fluffyowl00 · 13/10/2022 21:24

Wait til you’ve got a baby with a bit of poo on the edge of their vest and he’s weighing up whether to change (vest and top/dress/jumper/cardigan) or just wipe it with a baby wipe and not having a howling angry mess of a baby

FinallyHere · 13/10/2022 21:25

Why does he assume you would change sheets when you are pregnant and tired ? Why isn't he offering to help you up to find somewhere else to sit while he changes the sheets?

This does not bode well for life with him and a baby, does it?

BrutusMcDogface · 13/10/2022 21:26

I’ve definitely put a towel over a little bit of baby posset before, but dog blood? Yuk.

I mean, it does also matter whereabouts it is. Near his pillow, or on the bottom edge of your side? That makes a huge difference.

Bywayofanupdate · 13/10/2022 21:26

Mum2jenny · 13/10/2022 21:26

IMO there’s much worse stuff to have on bedding than a few drops of blood, even if it’s from a dog.
Let him change the bedding if it’s such an issue. What happens if he drops some tea or coffee on the bedding - does that warrant an immediate change?

PinkStickleBrick · 13/10/2022 21:27

Dried on blood is very hard to remove, on that basis alone I'd never leave it to dry on.

Justcallmebebes · 13/10/2022 21:27

I generally am not at all squeamish but on the fence on this one. However, if he was that bothered, he should have changed the sheets

Ship · 13/10/2022 21:27

I love my dog. And I have also been guilty of sleeping on a towel over a bit of baby sick in the early newborn days. But even I would find this gross and would want clean sheets. I wouldn’t let my in season dog on my bed tho. Mine wore these doggy diapers if she wanted to be on the sofa (on a blanket too).

to the poster who said get your dog spayed- maybe op will. Many vets now recommend a season or even two before they spay. mine did so we had to get through one season with mine.

Vikinga · 13/10/2022 21:29

I wouldn't bother changing it for 2 small bits of blood. He could have changed it if he wanted to.

Aquamarine1029 · 13/10/2022 21:29

It's disgusting, and why haven't you had this dog spayed? It's just irresponsible not to have done this. Also, your dog, you clean up the mess. I totally agree with your partner.

Give it a rest. There are many reasons not to spay a bitch. It's major surgery and not all vets recommend it for all dogs.

Just for the record, when DH was woken up by me vomiting over him in bed, his first concern was to make sure I was safe (I was very unwell) then do what he could to make me comfortable and then get cleaned up including changing the sheets.

When I tried to apologise, he told me not to be 'ridiculous' and reminded me about 'in illness and in health '

HiKelsey · 13/10/2022 21:32

If it had been my blood then yeah I'd have probably left it till morning as I get nose bleeds quite often in my sleep. But dog blood nope, definitely would have changed the sheets. Although I would have done it together, you're dog but he could help in you're exhausted. Two people would be quicker than one

Quveas · 13/10/2022 21:32

Sigh. Your bed, your choice. But I'd keep the dog and ditch the man.

Huntswomanonthemove · 13/10/2022 21:33

My dog is very much loved but she’s not allowed on our beds, it’s minging to have dog hairs etc., in your bed. Season blood is something else @DoreensEatingHerSoreen dear god!

Sirius3030 · 13/10/2022 21:33

LunaAndHerMoonDragons · 13/10/2022 21:17

I think this. It's gross, but if it doesn't bother you then he should change it.

Equally if DP vomits on the bed when he is drunk and it doesn’t bother him, you should change the sheets.

PoseyFlump · 13/10/2022 21:34

Those of you saying you'd be fine with human period blood but not dog period blood - what exactly do you think is the difference?

FlowerArranger · 13/10/2022 21:34

It's pretty disgusting tbh....... especially if it's not at the foot of the bed.

Why is your dog not spayed?

BrutusMcDogface · 13/10/2022 21:35

@FinallyHere That is completely different! That is the person you love being very unwell, not their dog’s fanny blood! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think it depends where it is. If it was where you lie- ew, change. If it is in the corner, by feet, and I was reeeeeeeaaaly tired, I may wait

Yep, I agree with this

Yes, or when you're flooding the sheets after giving birth, or when he's been pissed on and trying to work if he's crossed the threshold of having been pissed on too much to keep wearing the same clothes.

Anyway you need to get your dog spayed, it's better for all of you.

Anonymouslyposting · 13/10/2022 21:37

Personally I’d change the sheets straight away as it gives me the ick - I don’t think there’s a “right” answer on this one though - different people have different standards about blood.
