Wish the government would stop being such a miserable bunch and give us our bank holiday!

Prince Charles doesn't look particularly clean living. He's got a flushed face.

I agree another BH is not needed and I am one of the lucky ones who would benefit from it.
They wont have it on the 29th April as I believe that is Kate and Williams wedding anniversary.

If they wanted to avoid important dates it wouldn't have been on Archie's birthday. I don't imagine Harry and Meghan are best pleased!

I think that might be rosacea. I have that and hate that the first thought of people is that I like alcohol too much!

There has been discussion before about whether he has rosacea.

Maybe that was deliberate?

Maybe they’re absolutely delighted why wouldn’t they be best pleased 🤨

Well that makes no sense at all. Why move a regular MayDay Bank Holiday when they could just have the Coronation on Saturday 29th April instead of Saturday 6th May?

Signed; person who has already booked annual leave to incorporate Mayday Bank Holiday.

Agreed!! My small business has an event, the success of which depends upon the bank hol Monday staying put Angry

Just give us an additional bank hol if they aren't going to use the existing one!!

Bastards. If we have to have a monarch at least give us a fucking day off work for it. Pissing Charles has had plenty of bloody days off - over seventy years ' worth so far. Twats.

Also this ^ x100

The only thing I like about the monarchy is the occasional extra bank holiday. Without a day off for his coronation then we might as well get rid of them.

Plus he's pretty slim. A man that age would be very lucky to drink enough to give him alcohol induced ruddiness whilst not gaining weight.

It's only right. (I mean I'm not royalist but given we have a new king might as well go for it.) I'd love another BH. Think this country is a bit stingy with them tbh.

In my house we are split on the extra bank holiday. I like the idea but then I am an employer of a company that will close so I get an extra day off so its a bonus day off for me. My husband on the other hand is self employed so will go to work as normal and just have the inconvenience of suppliers etc being closed to plan for so he doesn't like bank holidays at all.

Although I do think any extra bank hols should be in the autumn rather than more in spring/summer.

Have the Windsors not provided enough expensive, ostentatious spectacles to satisfy even the most ardent monarchists' lust for them in the past year? That's without the spate of ludicrously OTT weddings involving minor aristocrats who do no public duties on behalf of the country.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country have lives to live and a living to earn. The people who hanker after this stuff, and would have it foisted on everyone else - could maybe try watching Dynasty instead. At least that's optional, not to mention a sight cheaper.

Time to give it, and us, a rest.

And yes, I'm great fun at parties 😀

No thanks, it messes up my holiday entitlement as a part time employee and actually makes me worse off holiday wise (ie when I want to actually choose to be off). And as it's on a Saturday, no additional BH is needed for this.

bridgetreilly · 12/10/2022 14:00

Schools really, really don’t want even more bank holidays at that time of year. I think a Saturday is a much better idea. If you want the Friday or Monday off, book annual leave.

Our event is planned for the existing bank hol, I am saying that if this bank hol gets moved to the coronation weekend then this is a problem for us.
I don't see why the coronation couldn't just be on the existing bank hol weekend Angry

Some people seem to enjoy being overly dramatic. Why would tourist attractions and theme parks be closed? They aren’t on a normal BH, are they? And with this much notice, surely there wouldn’t be thousands of medical appointments to suddenly reschedule. Appreciate the mourning period and funeral was a PITA but this is a bit different.

It's not about suddenly rescheduling medical appointments. It's about losing another elective day. So a whole day of CT scans, MRIs, X Rays, chemo, radiotherapy, OP appointments, elective surgery, etc and infinitum not being done. All of which will need doing at some other time. Even though are huge pressures on the health system currently and no spare capacity,

OP, I'd love another bank holiday. I understand the underlying issues that another bank holiday can raise but, just for a moments wishful thinking, surely everyone would like an extra day off work with no extra cost to their annual allowance.
Yes I know, not everyone has bank holidays off and I know that not very business can really afford to take an extra day off.
But, taking all of the logistics and whatever out of it - surely everyone would be happy to be handed an extra day off? I'm not workshy but, give me an extra day off, I'm bloody taking it.

An extra bank holiday may cost a bit....
But it is nothing compared to our incompetent government's spectacular acts of self sabotage that are currently screwing our economy!

I'd love an extra bank holiday personally.

Not everyone gets all bank holidays though. We get a set number of bank holidays in our annual leave. We didn't get an extra one for the jubilee, for example. I have been working for more than 20 years and that's been standard in every contract I've had - they say something like holidays = x and y number of bank holidays. There could be another 10 bank holidays declared next year and it wouldn't make a difference to my holiday entitlement.

We are open all bank holidays with the exception of Christmas/new year.
