Gosh what a miserable country we’ve become, people talking against their own interests and rejecting a bank holiday!
Honestly the bank holiday hate it pretty much confined to here. In real life everyone loves a bank holiday

Not everyone is lucky enough to have people available to help.
I don't understand why you are think that chemo should go ahead, but you don't care about any other NHS services which are equally important.

The other parent? Grandparents? Aunts? Uncles? Siblings? Friends?
passport123 · 14/10/2022 10:02
when schools and nurseries are shut as a one-off, how do the staff who have small children come to work?
mummybearcub2022 · 12/10/2022 21:36
How cruel. Surely chemo is an essential service
blackheartsgirl · 12/10/2022 21:22
And yes they would cancel chemo. Happened to a friend of mine on the day of the queens funeral.
Not everyone, but most will realistically.
Wichit · 14/10/2022 12:12
I think it's one of those threads where someone takes a forcefully contrary stance early doors and everyone piles on after desperate to show that they can be even more contrary. But yeah ofc the country isn't full of people going "I hate bank holidays and anyone that likes them is a tone deaf entitled cunt who wants cancer patients to die."

Or thick as pig shit as they say in Yorkshire.

It's the additional bank hols people object to, the normal ones are in everyone's business models/schools plans and have been for years FFS. Why are posters twisting what many have said regarding the extra one and the issues involved.
The coronation is on a Sat, why is it even a discussion.

@mummybearcub2022 I have this a few times but not seen an answer. What about the kids who already have exams scheduled. How would that work?
you just move the exam date obviously. Plenty of time to get it all sorted.
VikingVolva · 15/10/2022 07:31
Exams is fairly straightforward, you use the contingency day, or reschedule somewhere when there's a gap.
What's not straightforward is impact on local elections (4 May, so counting on 5 May)

There is a bank holiday the previous Monday, and then three weeks later.
I'd like an extra one each Autumn, perhaps for November 11th, to remember all who have died in war.
Yes I think we should have an autumn bank holiday.
Britain is one of the countries with a low number of bank holidays, and so we should remain competitive with one more
And that autumn term is the longest and it would be nice to have a bank holiday as well as half term to break it up a bit more

Exactly this.
No extra one is needed. It's on a Saturday. And if they wanted it to coincide with an existing one then they should have used the closest Saturday to that date.
tigger1001 · 15/10/2022 08:22
"you just move the exam date obviously. Plenty of time to get it all sorted."
That will only be easy if they move the date, not so much if an extra one is granted.
And why should the people doing exams have this disruption? Has education not had enough disruption in recent years? If your desire for an extra days holiday more important than the disruption it causes?

Exam timetables for next summer will be finalised in the next few weeks. Constructing those timetables is an incredibly difficult logistical exercise requiring considerable cooperation and negotiation between exam boards in order to avoid clashes between major subjects.
It’s not as simple as: “you just move the exam date obviously”.

I'm in Scotland and the exam timetable is available to see now. Whether that's the final version or not I don't know, but certainly our school are working to that timetable.

If people want a day off, why not take annual leave?
I find it so weird that people want to impose a bank holiday on everyone else. I run my own business and take days off when it suits me and my family/friends. Sometimes I work on bank holidays if my work load warrants it.
The impact for many people is too much in the current economic situation. My friend lost quite a bit of business due to the queen's funeral, she won't want that all over again for yet another royal day.

Think of it as an extra day of revision then 🙄
People on here tying themselves in knots to try and justify not giving an extra BH.

You are genuinely funny. But I think you don't realise that.
Do you have exam aged kids? It's not an extra day of revision.
People are tying themselves in knots trying to justify why an extra bank holiday (which would make 5 in approx 6 weeks) for an event on a Saturday.
