I think you are naive, most people will be entitled to bank holidays in this country.
YellowTreeHouse · 12/10/2022 07:20
Incorrect. “Most” people won’t have it off, and the the vast majority of those won’t get it in lieu either.
How naive you are.
mummybearcub2022 · 12/10/2022 07:19
Yes, most will have it off and some will get a day off a lieu. Only some people have BH tied into their annual holiday allowance. Better to have it than not?
YellowTreeHouse · 12/10/2022 07:16
You realise not everyone gets bank holidays off, yes?
Agree you sound giddy
zero hours contract- bank holiday no help
another day of missed medical appointments- no help
I’m looking forward to the coronation but I’ve got enough brain to realise another BH in may isn’t great for everyone and happily the King knows it too.

It feels like they’ve deliberately chosen the Saturday after the May Day bank holiday. to get out of giving another bank holiday.
I know - was looking forward to an extra Bank Holiday. And I couldn't care less about the royals

Agree.
AnyFucker · 12/10/2022 08:54
life is too short to be working so much
that is a spectacularly tone deaf comment, made by someone who isn’t worried about putting food in their kids mouths and paying their rent/mortgage
Also agree

User84 · 12/10/2022 09:09
That would only apply to some roles. Others where constant cover is required involves then paying overtime to people to cover the holiday/time off in lieu
ReeseWitherfork · 12/10/2022 09:07
Not necessarily. No evidence to prove that. I work for the NHS and productivity doesn’t noticeably drop when we have a BH as most of us work particularly hard around it to meet the same deadlines and keep up with our workload.
User84 · 12/10/2022 09:04
Well for a start the public sector employs thousands of people, all of whom are then gaining an additional day’s holiday or time off in lieu, which has a massive financial cost.
ReeseWitherfork · 12/10/2022 09:00
Why would it be adding to any debt?
User84 · 12/10/2022 08:54
So give up work then. Or take a days holiday. Don’t assume everyone else thinks it’s sensible to add millions of pounds to the mountain of debt that is causing economic turmoil.
mummybearcub2022 · 12/10/2022 08:47
Oh lighten up and stop being so dramatic, life is too short to be working so much.
User84 · 12/10/2022 08:26
This
FFS OP, this country is in the middle of a major economic crisis. Stop being so selfish and grow up.
serin · 12/10/2022 07:44
We don't need another bank holiday, we need a work ethic.
I see what you’re saying, but that doesn’t add to any debt. The NHS doesn’t get any more money in a financial year with an Easter versus one without.
blinkingtelly · 12/10/2022 09:21
We get a bank holiday the weekend before. Presumably Charles didn't want to hold it then as I think (from what I read) he's trying to not make this such a massive deal. I think he recognises for the future of the monarchy, things need to appear to be slimmed down.
Having said, think lots of lots love a good royal weekend. It seems to being out lots of good cheer and humour with street parties etc.
Snaketime · 12/10/2022 09:21
mummybearcub2022 · 12/10/2022 07:15
Because it’s nice to have a day off work… why wouldn’t anyone want that.
TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/10/2022 07:14
What’s this obsession with Bank Holidays? Every time something happens in the country people start hopping up and down demanding them. Just get on with daily life ffs instead of all the weird drama!
Not everybody gets a bank holiday off. I still have to work, my DH has to go into work even though it is usually his day off and then we have the added complication that our children aren't at school.
Just book it yourself ad a holiday off work if you want it off.
onlythreenow · 12/10/2022 09:23
Oh lighten up and stop being so dramatic, life is too short to be working so much.
Nothing stopping you taking a day off work is there? Honestly, you want to be paid then you work - or do you think you should be paid to do nothing? Talk about entitlement!!!

That's interesting, and very sensible of him if so. The combination of an imposed mourning period taking out nearly two weeks plus the massive funeral and disruption of the short notice bank holiday was trying patience well beyond republicans by the end. The landscape is also likely to look quite different after the winter we're about to have: the royals are lucky enough she died before it got cold.

Well that makes no sense at all. Why move a regular MayDay Bank Holiday when they could just have the Coronation on Saturday 29th April instead of Saturday 6th May?

janj2301 · 12/10/2022 07:37
They are talking of moving the Monday holiday before that weekend to the monday after
EXACTLY! Why be so bloody awkward?
It doesn’t matter to me practically, but why wouldn’t you just do that? May is already a bust with two bank holidays and half term. we don’t need another one. Have the bloody thing in October when there’s a four month BH drought, if you must. And while people who don’t get paid might be in a minority, they are likely to be people who most need the money. People can take holiday if they are that bothered. I suspect it might be rather a non-event, anyway. The Queen was much loved, even by people who felt ambivalent about the monarchy in general. Charles is……not.
DrinkFeckArseGirls · 12/10/2022 09:35
I would lose day’s wages, OP, so no, it’s not really a case of why wouldn’t everyone like a day off. If I was childless I could I guess still go out to work if clients willing but if school’s closed then can’t do that.
so for some people it’s a massive inconvenience to say at least.

I think even the level of opulence on display in a slimmed down coronation risks playing very badly now the cold is starting to set in. They know their best chance of pulling it off is when it's warmer, when people aren't in heat or eat mode.

mummybearcub2022 · 12/10/2022 07:30
the bh should be on the following Monday or the Friday before.
TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/10/2022 07:28
I thought the coronation was on a Saturday, not a Monday?
mummybearcub2022 · 12/10/2022 07:21
Because our head of state is having his coronation? Why would anyone not want an extra day off?
TigerRag · 12/10/2022 07:18
It's a Saturday and we have a Bank Holiday the Monday before and 4 weeks later. Why do we need another one?
I'm self employed and will have clients with Monday appointments. They're already missing two appointments in May and I don't want their appointments disrupted further.
A bank holiday for this is totally unnecessary.
