I destest them and their policies too

Good on her for telling it like it is

I know shes hated on mn, or rather on scotsnet. They prefer the tories there, christ knows why. Independence is a dirty word on scotsnet. So i know I'll be shot down, but i couldn't care less.

Good on you Nicola👍

She’s a bitter leftie desperate to lead her own country into ruin (independence) and isn’t allowed so so really don’t pay much attention to her opinions 😂

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 10/10/2022 11:41

So why don’t Scots in the rest of the UK get a vote on Indy? Oh yes. Again, you pick and choose what suits and when. Hypocrisy of the highest order. As usual

I would have thought the answer to your question would be pretty obvious. It's a piece of legislation brought about by a scottish government. They can not legislate for anything that is outside of Scotland, including non-resident Scots. That's a matter for the government of whichever country they are living in.

You accuse people of 'hypocrisy', yet at the same time betray the fact you don't even have a basic understanding of what you are ranting about.

Again, perfectly in keeping with a typical NS MN thread.

derxa · 10/10/2022 11:42

We know that independence would be financially disastrous for Scotland. Everything else is a distraction.

beachcitygirl · 10/10/2022 11:44

More to the point. The utter mess of misogyny on this thread towards the first minister of scotland.
Call yourself decent women. Give your heads a wobble .

You can disagree without the name calling. (Harpie, krankie etc)

Vile. Says it all really.

We don't 'know' anything, because Scotland isn't Independent, and it's a waste of time trying to forecast what it might look like because everything is seen through the lens of the current UK arrangement, and Westminster resolutely refuses to show the working on how the supposed 'Scots deficit' is arrived at.

There are certain things I detest about all political parties - the blatant corruption in the SNP, the way Labour in the 90’s destroyed private pension provision, the way the tories marginalise those not well enough to work, the way the liberals compromise their beliefs to get in power, the way the Greens have destroyed Brighton. The list goes on. But It shows a certain blinkered ignorance and lack of critical thinking to take the view that one party is all good, and another all bad IMO.

Corruption is a criminal offence, so i suggest you take your evidence and hand it to the Police in Scotland or haven't you got any?

I took out my main private pension (defined contributions) in 1998, even with current turmoil, its worth 3x what i paid in, so labour did not destroy private pensions at all.

The Greens keep getting voted in, so presumably the locals are happy with their destroyed town.

The LD's i agree, Clegg was a disaster but the Tories have done far more than just marginalise the disabled, they ve wrecked the economy, removed all influence within Europe and destroyed every single public service we rely on.....

What IS a lack of critical thinking is going back decades to try and find things that you can blame other parties for, the LD's and Labour are not the same parties they once were at all....

Aye, far better to leave that 'leading into ruin' thing to Westminster Tories. God knows they are hugely experienced and efficient at it.

Because the pp didn't say "all scots in the uk should have a vote" the pp said all of the uk should have a vote.
Apples and oranges. I was talking about one sentiment not another.

For me personally, those who have to live with consequences of a vote get a say.
ie those who live & pay taxes there.

So for me anyone who lives in scotland gets a vote (irrespective of birth nationality)

For brexit anyone who lives in uk (irrespective of birth nationality ) should get a vote .

Not rocket science.

People who choose to live elsewhere & are not affected directly don't get a vote.

This is wrong. Anyone who would potentially qualify for Scottish citizenship would be affected including, hundreds of thousands of Scots living in the wider UK and beyond. Not least because it would be Scotland paying them their state pension in however many years’ time, or providing their NHS care if they move back.

Scottish independence is a question of citizenship, not domicile. But again this is an inconvenient complication that no one seems to want to talk about.

So would people be Scottish AND British? And what would they be entitled to from where, given that we live in a pay as you go tax and pension system? And who would qualify for being Scottish and who would qualify for being British?

90% of economics beg to differ!

beachcitygirl · 10/10/2022 12:45

Doll & dear are a regional working class term where I'm from, pet also. (All recognises as terms of endearment/way to address someone whose name you don't know)

Not quite in the same league as harpie. Which is a deeply misogynist term, but then you know that.

beachcitygirl · 10/10/2022 12:46

@Fieldsofhay got a citation for that 90% of economists? (i assume you meant economists - your writing wasn't clear)

From which reputable data source was this 90% taken? Who was polled? Who polled them?
🤨😆

LookingAtYou · 10/10/2022 12:47

'Doll & dear are a regional working class term where I'm from, pet also. (All recognises as terms of endearment/way to address someone whose name you don't know)'

Context is important. You were using misogynistic terms 'doll' and 'dear' to mock posters, it wasn't being used as a 'term of endearment'. But you know that.

Why doesn't engerland try for their independence? Oh yep forgot

They are too busy living the busted dream of the empire &'pillaging Scotland's natural & tourist resources for their (think HS2) vanity projects, Tory tax cuts for the elite, monarchy & nuclear Arsenal etc etc etc

England wouldn't last 5 mins as an independent country. For too long stealing from other countries has been the order of the day.

Elgin Marbles
Cullinan diamond
North Sea oil
Aberdeen Angus cattle
Renewable energy
Whiskey

And so on ad infinitum

The enemy of your enemy is not your friend!

Seen her views on women’s safe spaces and the GRR in Scotland.

The Tories are dicks who could care more about poor people.

She doesn’t give a shit about women or children quite frankly - a way, way bigger problem.

Yep, hates them… thats why she brought in free period products… to screw over women and girls

🤣🤣🤣 stupid teenager (at the time) says stupid thing on social media according to red top tabloid.

Not an employee of the party
Not an elected official
Not a local government official
A branch held position not a national one
Roundly condemned by all
Tweet deleted
Apology made
Disqualified from holding that position

Aye. That's typical of scotland

And ALL parties have numpties, every one of them. Some (the tories )even have mp's who wank in Parliament

SomePosters · 10/10/2022 12:58

We know that independence would be financially disastrous for Scotland. Everything else is a distraction.

We don't know that. Scotland is hamstrung by the UK at the moment, a country which is falling apart at the seems whilst the government desperately try to hold onto the pathetic remnants of the empire and spunking billions up the wall on the way.

There will be more a problem internally post Indy ref as clearly people feel strongly on both sides and around half will likely say no and many have already said no. The anger will go somewhere and it won’t be at us anymore.

Out of interest as Labour are leading the polls do you still want to go if they win the GE or is it more about the Tories

Barely a week goes by when a tory mp isn't found guilty of something and chucked out the party. Glass houses and all that.

Aberdeen Angus cattle 🙄What on earth are you talking about?

GladysGladioli · 10/10/2022 13:15

This thread and the many other similar threads just prove how incredibly divisive Nicola Sturgeon is. She's full of hate.

When I was growing up England and Scotland liked each other. We all got on just fine. There was mutual respect. Now - it's just bile. I feel so sorry for the Scots that aren't like this.

Scotland is such a beautiful country. It's such a shame.
