Cleaner then you probably have time to be doing your cleaning yourself. Find myself a bit bewildered by the complaints about cleaners on here. Not really a problem in the the true sense of the word IMO. Is your purse also too small for your £50s and are your diamond shoes too tight? (thank you Chandler! )

My cleaner very occasionally leaves a bit early or arrives a bit late and this is not a problem in the least because she always gets everything done but more importantly she also will stay a little bit later if she hasn't finished her work. So imo it is a case of treating your cleaner like a human being and not getting your knickers in a twist as long as they get the job done and there is flexibility on both parts.

rookiemater · 26/01/2008 13:18

Well most of the AIBU could be sorted out by just speaking to the person in question rather than moaning about it so if thats your basic premise then lets cancel the whole section.

Plus every time there is a thread about a cleaner you always end up with at least one person saying that they should do their own cleaning. I sense you are one of those people.

You probably enjoy cleaning.

Good for you.

I hate cleaning and I'm crap at it. I work almost f/t and am bloody good at my job and have a cleaner because I can afford one.

If I didn't have a cleaner then DH and I would have even more rows about who does what and I'd end up doing the bloody bulk of it, when neither of us want to and we are paying someone way more than minimum wage to do it for us. She seems happy, we are happy, and yes if she wasn't working her hours I'd be pissed off about it and want ideas about how to sort it out. So what ?

Amethyst8 · 26/01/2008 13:18

Have been in my time sprogger yes, already posted that. Had great clients too for the most part. Just some unrealistic expectations. Am sure a lot of you working Mums knock off early when you get the chance, or make mistakes at work etc. Lets hope all your bosses dont get on their nearest message board to list all your short comings. I bet they just tell you dont they? So do the same why dont you? It just feels to me that some of the complaints are really petty and unrealistic and dare I say it a chance to show off?

Finally someone gets it!.....Thank you Carmenere - you sound like a great boss .

I think most of the threads about cleaners are because people aren't used to having "staff" and genuinely don't know how to handle things.

As for the showing off, get a grip, why on earth would you go on to Mumsnet to show off about your cleaner when no one knows who you are or where you live. You'd have to be pretty desperate to do that.

VictorianSqualor · 26/01/2008 13:24

Amethyst I doubt carmenere would be saying the same about her cleaner if she left 20minutes early without doing her job well....

In all employment peopel should eb treated like humans, but they should also get the job done.

And arent you lucky to be in that position where someone else cleans your toilet and picks up your used tissues etc because you dont want to and can afford for someone else to? However on one particular day your cleaner left a dust bunny in the corner, so what do you do? Obviously immediately dash to the computer to let MN know thats what. What bothers me is just that she probably cleaned all kinds of cr*p up for you and your family before she left 20 minutes early for the day and she does that every time she comes because you dont want and can afford not to. Of course there are no names on Mumsnet but you are giving your cleaner a virtual drubbing when she is doing the crap that you dont want to. Who the hell wouldnt leave work early if they can get away with it? Employing cleaners? not a problem. Whinging about them to thousands of other women because you have unrealistic expections? Get a Grip

if that had been your OP m, then this thread would have taken a totally different turn

as it was , it just sounded like jealousy or sour grapes

ZippiBabes · 26/01/2008 13:25

showing off about having a cleaner?it's not that rare is it..

and anyway you ould wanrt to sshow off that you had a little gem rather than someone you had a problem with surely?

moljam · 26/01/2008 13:25

Amethyst8 do you never post on mn about things that stressed you out in day?

Amethyst8 · 26/01/2008 13:26

Of course to take up on behalf of cleaners I would have to be a disgruntled and inefficent employee myself wouldnt I?

Why would people go on Mumsnet to show off? Well I dont know but some do.

Thanks for all responses but I am off now to watch Fifi with DD in my appallingly messy living room. Hercules1 I am still waiting to hear from you re my jealousy/bitterness.

OP posts:
ZippiBabes · 26/01/2008 13:28

you need a laptop amethyst then you could mn in the front room

hercules1 · 26/01/2008 13:30

I thought I already answered. Your post about picking up used tissues etc sounded like sour grapes/jealousy (to use someone elses words). Also because I am jealous too.

VictorianSqualor · 26/01/2008 13:31

You're not taking up on behalf of cleaners though, people complain about people on here all the time, be it taxi driver, delivery workers, restuarant staff, shop assistants etc etc.

If someone is doing any form of a service for you and you arent satisfied surely you're entitled to moan about it, and post on MN, for all you know the employer could be really pissed off with the cleaner constantly not doing ehr job correctly but instead of having a go comes to MN to moan about it and let off steam so she can assess the situation properly.

There have been many threads about cleaners being exploited, put a million times better than you have, but ti still comes down to being paid to do a job and being expected to do it properly.

I think your jealousy was highlighted in the post lulumama pasted btw.

moljam · 26/01/2008 13:32

i think if i had cleaner id be one of those people who tidy up before the cleaner arrived!!!!

VictorianSqualor · 26/01/2008 13:32

LOL Zippi, are you stoned or something?? Your posts seem to be getting more and more chilled out by the day.

ZippiBabes · 26/01/2008 13:36

crikey sweetheart

i always getting told im on drink or drugs on mn

amethyst is nice name btw

reminds me of school we had to learn all the stones and their colours

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 26/01/2008 13:37

I have no problem with other people starting threads to complain on MN (cleaners, pre-school, secondary school or MIL - I see no difference), it's a good anonymous sounding board and the OPs can get advice and guidance on how to sort out any problems calmly and effectively, whereas if left to feel frustrated may take the wrong approach entirely.

moljam · 26/01/2008 13:39

ZippiBabes-you do sound very chilled!

FrannyandZooey · 26/01/2008 13:42

zippi has gone UTTERLY REASONABLE

I am going to consult her about ALL my problems from now on, she knows everything

Amethyst8 · 26/01/2008 13:45

Victorian Squalor - Actually I am taking up on behalf of cleaners (including myself)why would you say I am not? A bit puzzled by that statement as cleaners and those who moan about them is all I have talked about. Surely doesnt really matter who expressed their thoughts on it better than me either, when the feelings behind it are genuine. Or are you one of these who resorts to criticising literacy and grammatical inconsistencies when you disagree with a poster? I read a thread where others have agreed that doing that was pretty low and unnecessary but hey if you want to be that person.......

OP posts:
moljam · 26/01/2008 13:45

zippi, are you the one with lots of children?or am i thinking someone else?if it is you how do you managed to sound chilled?

Twiglett · 26/01/2008 13:47

are you including my complaint that my cleaner has for the 2nd week running put a potato in my wine rack or not?

just like to know

thanks

I have a cleaner cos I do

tiredemma · 26/01/2008 13:47

How much is a cleaner? My life would be so much easier- I really am struggling to cope at the mo.

Twiglett · 26/01/2008 13:47

Twiglett · 26/01/2008 13:49
