I don't think I'm being unreasonable. She's put everything out there to safeguard children in the face of vile misogyny and cowardice from many of her fellow writers.

She also always has beautiful hair.

Ofgs this is a bloody personality cult.
YABeyondU and into ridiculous worship just because she supports your own prejudices

Entropy lets explore these 'prejudices' further.

I asked these questions of someone up thread but they declined to respond, perhaps you will?

What's prejudiced/ transphobic about these things that JKR and most of us posting on here are concerned about?

That women and girls are human beings and deserve single sex spaces for safety and dignity?

That lesbians who say no to penises are not bigots?

That children should be safeguarded?

That women in prison should be safe from the penises of sex offenders?

That women should be able to access rape crisis support without males being present?

That paedophiles have no place on the board of childrens charities?

ReneBumsWombats · 06/10/2022 16:47

Instead you want to use weaponised ignorance to try and make me explain myself.

Are you not used to having to explain yourself?

If I were on a noble crusade against a bigoted, hateful individual who pours forth her venom on a daily basis, indeed publicly published an essay in which she laid out all this poison, I'd save a few links and direct quotes. She would have made it easy enough. Why wouldn't I?

Unless I had some aversion to explaining myself, for some reason...

@ReneBumsWombats that just sums up who the hateful and intolerant ones are.

Those responses are repulsive. I've also never quite figured out why stating the reality of biological sex equates to 'you deny my right to exist and you want me to die!'

Que?

Who precisely said this, ever?

Quite a reach from the desire to preserve women's rights/spaces/sports to wanting to kill people.

Me either. I'd like to be educated but somehow I don't think it'll happen.

What are you worried will happen if you take this bait?

I'm not "worried". I'm just don't have time or the inclination to go around in circles with people who have nothing better to do than spend all day long obsessing and attacking a vulnerable group of people who have done nothing to them.

PuntasticUsername · 06/10/2022 18:04

Bollocks, mate. If you had even a shred of evidence, you'd have produced it long ago. You've got nothing.

i'm sorry which vulnerable group of people have been attacked I must have missed it?

Can you find one single post on here which has attacked trans people?

It's like JKR being accused of transphobia. It doesn't exist, unless:

Women's rights are transphobic...

In which case you must clearly see women as not fully human because you do not believe we should have rights that keep us safe and maintain our dignity.

Remind me again which point of view is the bigoted one and why?

Remind me again which rights trans people don't already have?

You said you weren't going to give us any evidence because that would be taking the bait.

Now you're saying it's because you don't have time?

Yet you have the time and inclination to keep posting?

JKR happens to be an incredibly intelligent, articulate and well-informed person, but to be honest, she doesn't actually need to be. This level of debate could be outwitted by a turnip.

Hi @Winecrispschocolatecats

I said upthread I would be more than happy to reconsider my gender critical stance if you could help me understand what the word 'woman' means, if it doesn't refer to biological sex.

In your view, what do all women and transwomen have in common that they don't have in common with any men or transmen? What is the defining characteristic (or characteristics) of a woman? I'd like to understand what it is that unites women and transwomen and means that they require separate spaces away from men and transmen.

I would like a non-circular definition to help me out here, please, as this is my biggest problem with accepting the trans activist narrative. Should I understand the basic premise, I will reexamine my existing views and see whether they hold up.

Hi @EdgeOfACoin, I'm glad you asked. In simple terms, scientific studies have shown that there are certain neurons in the brain that dictate sex, sexual identity, gender identity etc. These are called somatostatin-expressing neurons. Men have broadly twice as many as women - however trans women have a similar number as women. Trans men have almost double the number ie the same as men. The conclusion is that somatostatin neuronal differences in the brain point to a neurobiological basis for gender dysmorphia. Or, in layman's terms, the brain controls our entire bodies, from whether we're left or right handed, how we learn, who we're attracted to, and how we identify. Most of the time the brain matches the body (yay for us!) but in a small percentage of people the brain is at odds with the body and that difference can be seen in their neurons. Just as conversion therapy doesn't make gay people straight (and destroys their mental health) it doesn't make trans people "un-trans." It's literally built in at cellular level.

For those who leap on this response to say "it's all in their heads then" please consider that so is being gay, autistic, prodigiously gifted for example. It's the luck of the draw.

*male-frmale transsexuals have female neuron numbers in a limbic nucleus - DF Swaab et al 2000
**Brain sex in transgender women is shifted towards gender identity - F Kurth et al 2022

So every single transwoman has been tested? And this has been found? I’m also confused. If no one can define what a woman is, then how did they know they were testing women?

Do you think that this applies to all men who identify as trans?

Do you think there are instances in which men could take advantage of this and put women at harm?

Do you believe that the likes of Karen White and Sally Ann Dixon have this condition whilst going on to attack other women (and children in the case of Sally Ann) committing crimes with their penises?

Why do you think this is more important for classifying humans than the one that has worked through the ages, chromosomes and the production of large gametes?

What about non binary , how does that work?

What's that got to do with the actual reproductive sex of your body? If it's true, the only way you can know whether a person's number of somatostatin-expressing neurons corresponds to their sex is if they have a sex and you can determine which one it is.

And why should it mean that male people get a free pass into spaces for female people, even when this destroys their safeguarding and equal opportunities?

And if it's so easy to detect, demonstrably, whether someone is trans by counting their somatostatin-expressing neurons, why do we need self ID? Why can't trans people get tested?

HarlanPepper · 06/10/2022 18:32

@Winecrispschocolatecats I've only had a look at one of the studies you cite, the 2000 one, and what immediately jumps out at me is that a) there were only 42 participants, of which only one was a trans man, and b) they don't show that the difference in somatostatin-expressing neurons is definitely not a result of prolonged hormone treatment.
