@MuddlerInLaw
This weekend My subs were 2 aubergines which should be 72p each ie £1.44 with £3 each ones total £6.00 that is over 4 times the price!

In the past i ordered 2 packets of steak in the 3 for £10 do £6.66 they sent £20 steak which they charged me £16.66 for which didnt even honor their offer of £3 for £10 offer. Chicken sub was twice the price, beer was £6 more That week was particularly bad as my bill was £25 more even though there items missing.
I got a refund back but it took several emails.

I now make sure i reject every substitution that is more than the original price on principal as other supermarkets do not charge the extra or give a voucher for the difference

@C8H10N4O2

I used to just fill out the form and ask them to refund the difference and they always always did, especially during covid and the drop off deliveries or also as I had so many bags often 20 bags of shopping, the driver would be unable to find it.
They also said that they have to throw out the item at the end of the day so it makes no difference, that is a dreadful waste of food isn't it?

The first time I queried it I was told the correct price had been charged. Perhaps they have changed policy.

TBH, I'm not filling in a form in the hope of a refund each time they send a sub - its easier to send it back. They should do what all the others do and price match or simply say out of stock.

I do think Ocado is overrated . I use it, liked it more when it was partnered with Waitrose but there are other services who have caught up with some of the features Ocado offers (and which pack properly!)

BarbaraofSeville · 06/10/2022 08:36

Yes, the one time I used Ocado, I was quite disappointed as to how it was packed. Stuff just thrown in bags randomly, eggs and cans all mixed up, a single small loaf of bread in a bag by itself.

I'd bought a few expensive things to try that you can't get elsewhere, so while I spent about £60 after discounts, there wasn't very much volume and it was in 6 carrier bags, and they charged me for 8, but if some thought had gone into packing, it could have easily gone into 3-4.

It didn't used to be overated. I barely had any subs before m&s and there was far more choice . I have been a customer for 16 years
But I know COVID happened but the week m&s came on board it changed for the worse. Full of lovely treats but that's it, choice in meat poor, you used to be able to buy from a butcher type counter so 3 steaks instead of prepacked 2

NumptiesIncorporated · 06/10/2022 08:54

This is the kind of thread I think people expect when they come to mumsnet.

bruffin · 06/10/2022 08:55

I got that wrong they do have butcher type counter but only expensive cuts. I used to but Bavette's or flat iron which were really reasonable.

Sounds like I buy a lot of steak, but it was an occasional treat.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 06/10/2022 09:08

@NumptiesIncorporated Oh I dunno.

I think MN is a pretty broad church.

Are we only now allowed to post threads about being on the bones of our arse?

These threads always attract those who say "read the room" and one PP actually called the OP a "Disgrace" for choosing to spend her money how she liked.

I cannot understand those who come on threads like this having a go at those whose circumstances or choices are different.

I have no interest in the property threads but I wouldn't go on there saying someone was a disgrace because they had spent £500k on a house, when a figure like that would be out of my wildest dreams.

Their money, their choice and tbh I think many of the disparaging comments come from a place of envy.

We all spend our money differently and no one has the right to judge others what they spend it on.

NumptiesIncorporated · 06/10/2022 09:49

@KermitlovesKeyLimePie I'm not having a go at anyone, and I know that mumsnet has a wide variety of people on it.

I'm talking about the perception that people have about mumsnet before they see for themselves. The perception is that it's very much a middle class daily mail reading crowd. In reality, threads like this are in the minority. It's merely an observation, not a judgement.

If I was trying to have a go (and why would I? I think that mumsnet is better for heading a wide variety of backgrounds and viewpoints) It would be obvious.

@C8H10N4O2 except it's about 3 clicks for your money back they always refunded me the total cost of the item, I kept it?

I remember I ordered 8 anti reflux milks and they sent me 8 comfort milk as a replacement. I went bezerk as it wasn't even nearly close. They couldn't accept the milk back. Gave it all to a good bank. Got full refund, that was literally over £100 in refund and a food bank got 8 boxes of baby milk.

They don't, I've not noticed it but then when I don't have £1,000 or want to spend that on a bag I don't go and tell people they are boasting because they aren't it's an advice forum not an opinions forum on someone's worthiness as a human

Yes, very articulate six year old,

Charming user name too.

Speaking of which, I’m sure it must be nearly time for my free anniversary bottle of wine. Please say they haven’t ditched that?

Worry not. I got my £10 wine/choc anniversary voucher the other day.

MuddlerInLaw · 06/10/2022 13:46

Oh - that’s good news! Usually goes towards my first Autumn bottle of Port. Wine

Murdoch1949 · 06/10/2022 17:17

I only use Ocado to get M&S produce, and as the quality of that is going down I may leave soon. Don't trust Ocado own range, never buy their meat urgh. I'm a Waitrose shopper, though occasionally buy food cupboard stuff from Sainsbury's. The horsemeat scandal put me off the main supermarkets, but I trust Waitrose.

Agreed. If I need M&S profiteroles, Christmas pud or some of Ocado’s French imports, I’ll put in an order. Ocado own brand stuff is diabolical. Worse than any of the cheapest supermarkets.

I used to be principally Waitrose customer, now I’m 50:50 with Sainsbury’s as they have stuff Waitrose doesn’t. Waitrose has stopped producing freshly baked loaves of bread for example. Gail’s rock hard monstrosities do not count.

Yes I agree - I've had an account since relatively early in the Waitrose partnership and since M&S its definitely taken a downturn for my kind of shopping. A large increase in the over packaged and over prepared items and as you say, a drop in variety both in products and flexibility in the goods I want to buy.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 07/10/2022 08:53

If Waitrose would just get their act together and improve their app/website then I really think they could take a number of customers from Ocado....

But that was a refund for a rejected item surely, rather than a price match refund?

Mind you, there is another thread running at the moment describing Sainsbury's practice of subbing smaller packs for the same price, instead of the nearest equivalent in size with a price match. That would definitely have me ticking the "no subs" option on the order!

cultkid · 07/10/2022 11:33

Well I gave the milk away but if for example I had ordered Hipp stage 2 x10 and they gave me Hipp stage 3 x10 (it's happened) I kept items on the advice of drivers and was still refunded for the item.

It was free milk for a good cause, x10

In theory which would be wrong I could have thrown them on Facebook market place couldn't I after getting a refund and made £100?

I don’t have a problem with their website, it’s better Sains or Ocado.

Juststuff09 · 08/10/2022 12:39

One thing that really annoys me is how there's such a reverse snobbery towards food in the Uk

Aldi and Lidl quality isn't good imo - taste is subjective so I'm more than happy if people prefer aldi and lidl on taste but I think people are ignorant on where corners are cut whether that's animal welfare or health etc

A good example is houmous. The aldi and lidl and cheap tesco stuff is cheap because it's got potassium sorbate in

M&S and waitrose houmous and tesco normal brand houmous doesn't have this in.

Similarly I like buying fruit from waitrose as with things like mango some of the profits goes back to the community for schools etc

So no you are justified to want to shop at ocado

eltonjohnsglasses · 08/10/2022 12:48

£350 a week, that's a lot of groceries!

£350 a week, that's a lot of groceries!

It’s not actually. Pretty easy to get to that figure. Out of curiosity I made a £300 list. These are just examples, not my shopping list! Nor are they the most expensive in any category. And almost no fruit or veg included. But a family of four or five healthy appetites (with relatively expensive tastes) and the odd friend over for a drink / snack, could easily get through most of this in a week.
